Why do Chinese restaurants serve huge pieces of broccoli and no friggin' knife?!!
  4. Change the Locks I changed the lock on my front door So you can't see me anymore And you can't come inside my house And you can't lie down on my couch I changed the lock on my front door I changed the number on my phone So you can't call me up at home And you can't say those things to me That make me fall down on my knees I changed the number on my phone Yes I changed the kind of car I drive So you can't see me when I go by And you can't chase me up the street And you can't knock me off of my feet I changed the kind of car I drive I changed the kind of clothes I wear So you can't find me anywhere You can't spot me in a crowd And you can't call my name out loud I changed the kind of clothes I wear I changed the tracks underneath the train So you can't find me ever again And you can't trace my path And you can't hear me laugh And honey, I'm laughing all the time! I changed the name of this town So you can't follow me down And you can't touch me like before And you can't make me want you more I changed the name of this town I changed the lock on my front door I changed the number on my phone I changed the kind of car I drive I changed the kind of clothes I wear I changed the tracks underneath the train I changed the name of this town I changed the name of this town I changed the name of this town

Why don't we do it in the road?
  7. "Fire at Midnight" I believe in fires at midnight --- When the dogs have all been fed. A golden toddy on the mantle --- A broken gun beneath the bed. Silken mist outside the window. Frogs and newts slip in the dark --- Too much hurry ruins the body. Ill sit easy ... fan the spark Kindled by the dying embers of another working day. Go upstairs ... take off your makeup --- Fold your clothes neatly away. Me, Ill sit and write this love song As I all too seldom do --- Build a little fire this midnight. Its good to be back home with you.

Congrats on this mate, I never thought someone from across the pond would have unearthed this little gem..... Thanks Fridge I originally meant to post the lyrics to Three Ravens, but couldn't find it on the web and didn't want to go looking for the CD jewel case. We first discovered Malinky at the Mull of Kintyre Musical Festival, a number of years back. My wife and I absolutely adore Karine Polwart, and have been following her solo career since she split with the band. Funny thing is, a couple of years before that mokfest, we were staying near Tobermory, on the Isle of Mull, and one night, driving back to our B&B after a great meal and awesome sunset, we heard something intriguing on the radio, but all I thought I heard the DJ say afterwards was "highwire". I did a search when we got home and found "Highwired" by MacAlias. If you don't have it, I'd recommend getting it. But it wasn't until 2-3 years ago that it occurred to me that one of the voices was awfully familiar. I checked the CD and sure enough, 1/2 of MacAlias was Karine. The CD is worth it for John C. Clark alone. Maybe I'll post those lyrics sometime. Enjoy your time home off the rig.

  13. QUOTE (Marathonist @ Sep 19 2008, 02:59 PM) QUOTE (circumstantial tree @ Sep 18 2008, 10:01 PM) QUOTE (ArrowSnake @ Sep 18 2008, 01:38 PM) The Straight Story (David Lynch) Yeah, that's another good one. Don't know if it brought tears to my eyes, but I'm sure it did with some. This movie has Sissy Spacek in a supporting role. I forget the actor's name in the title role, but he played her father. Isn't that the one about the guy who rides his lawn tractor cross-country, since he's not allowed to drive his car anymore? Yes, and I think the actor in the title role died shortly after the movie was made. I'm sure there's a bunch of movies that got me a little misty, and that scene in "Dances with Wolves" where those idiots shoot his horse really pissed me off, but the hands down tearjerker was "Terms of Endearment". I only saw it when it was originally in the movies, never got around to seeing it again. Plus, it had the great Jack line, "I'd rather stick needles in my eyes"
