  1. QUOTE (usb_connector @ Apr 19 2011, 08:27 PM) I'm unsure, but I can assure you that I have no alias on this board. I hear where you're coming from, usb; but I'm not hearing overtone on that particular track. Oh, and I apologize if you took offense to the alias jab. I thought I was being fished when I replied to your post.
  2. QUOTE (D3strukt @ Apr 20 2011, 12:42 PM) There are better ones, in the map room in the bunker, lulz. Hitler likes his temper tantrums. Agreed. A bunker video length version of this would be much better. I still laughed though.
  3. QUOTE (Test4VitalSigns @ Apr 20 2011, 02:02 PM) Very sad news....co-director of Restrepo Tim Hetherington was killed while covering Libyan conflict http://www.cnn.com/2011/WORLD/africa/04/20...dex.html?hpt=T1 Yeah, I just heard that earlier today. Sad news, for sure. RIP

It's hard to tell but it just looks like he's simply harmonizing with himself. That doesn't mean overdub, it just means he's harmonizing with himself. He's done it with a lot of pieces, especially with earlier ones so I wouldn't be surprised. Some singers can cause multiple partials to emerge at once. This is usually due to vocal damage but others can train themselves to do it intentionally. Look at 2112 and the Armageddon section of Hemispheres. Throw it into a spectrogram (this works with the early live performances of 2112 as well) and you'll see multiple partials emerge as Ged sings. Multiple partials on Emotion Detector? This is a screenshot of the spectrogram of "Sometimes our big splashes are just ripples in the pool." I'm fairly sure the top is the left speaker and the bottom is the right. Ged's vocals are much clearer on the top one. Looks like there may be some harmony on the world splashes, but I'm not sure about the rest. There are some lines that kinda parallel the partials we hear Geddy singing, but I'm not sure if it's him or on an instrument. http://img135.imageshack.us/img135/895/spect.png Gotcha. I've got this sinking feeling that I've stepped into one of SnowCat's traps. What's the alias policy on this board?

Curses! I tried to warn you and stuff.

  8. QUOTE (In A Tidewater Surge @ Apr 18 2011, 04:38 PM) Why is this in the Rush section Because Neil read the book. Duh.
  9. Interesting. I've seen similar time-lapse photography in the past. What impressed me the most were the cloud shots that he captured. I've never seen anything like that sequence before.
  10. QUOTE (smocs @ Apr 16 2011, 02:18 PM) I just got these signed photos back from the United Center show in Chicago. I took them at the show last August and sent them to the UC. It's kinda hard to see the autographs, but they're still awesome http://a8.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/215734_10150161140333691_623428690_6968665_1625756_n.jpg http://a4.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/216400_10150161140643691_623428690_6968667_1547821_n.jpg http://a2.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/221911_10150161140883691_623428690_6968670_3214186_n.jpg You mind if I lift those and pretend like they were signed for me?
  11. QUOTE (Unattractive Truth @ Apr 18 2011, 12:16 PM) This went on for years at RTF. His (I'm paraphrasing this) "Geddy Needs a Colon Cleansing" thread over at RT was hilarious. He really should join the BASSMasters tour. Dude's a pro.
  12. QUOTE (Good, bad, andrush @ Apr 16 2011, 12:53 PM) QUOTE (Perchance to Dream @ Apr 16 2011, 02:51 PM) I see that SnowCat hasn't lost his touch. Behold the greatest Rush messageboard fisherman. Your creel runeth over. I'm caught, help me Don't mind the pliers. This will only hurt for a sec. I don't know why, but it's strangely nice to "see" him. Good times.

  14. Yeah, I'm confused as well. Mother Puncher/Operation Mindcrime
  15. QUOTE (Mandalorian Hunter @ Apr 15 2011, 03:27 PM)There's some hints we might be getting 2112 from SW. That would be nice, but I would prefer Hemispheres or Permanent Waves. Either one of those in 5.1 would be pretty mind blowing. As far as MP 5.1, I still haven't received it! Looks like I'll be waiting until early May. Frustrating as hell since I pre-ordered it a while back!
  16. QUOTE (ak2112 @ Apr 13 2011, 03:45 PM)QUOTE (ioc @ Apr 13 2011, 04:13 PM) QUOTE (ak2112 @ Apr 13 2011, 03:23 PM)The main thing that irritates me about this release is that it's been advertised as a high Rez 24 bit/96kHz remaster when in fact it is not. It is an upsampled 16 bit/44.1kHz master. Now, many on here might not care about this kind of thing but myself and many others do since it is false advertising, bordering on fraud. It may be 5.1 folks, but it is not high Rez. Very sad. Woah, woah. Hold the phones. It's not 24/96??? Sources, I need sources. Please spill. Any music waveform software can show you frequency response (DVD audioextractor is one program). Anyway, I should clarify my statement. The new 5.1 mix is full 24/96 but not the stereo, which was upsampled. They clearly didn't care about the 2 channel which is a bummer but I understand since this was always touted as a 5.1 release. Well that's good to know because it would have been advertising fraud if that were to actually be the case. I pre-ordered mine through Amazon, but have yet to receive it , so I can't comment on it at this time. As far as clarity goes, MP was originally analog, right? Deadwing and The Incident are digital, so I would imagine those releases would be much sharper than MP 5.1.
  17. Very cool. I'm partial to the isolated bass track from Tom Sawyer. Love to hear that Jazz growl in all its glory.
  18. Hey there, t. Fancy seeing you here.
