  1. Absolutely not! The boys will play for the guts of three hours, with a break in the middle.
  2. No mention of the Odyssey in Belfast yet, but the O2 in Dublin is a superb venue. Remodelled, with great facilities and superb acoustics!! See you there!!
  3. Sorry, I've been racked over with multiple orgasms since HA&S rang me this evening Nebbish, we'll have a pint before the Odyssey show, great venue, not the mention the O2 in Dub.....sorry......WHERE'S THE KLEENEX????
  4. QUOTE (Hatchetaxe&saw @ Jun 29 2009, 02:36 PM) The setlist kicked ass too. And Angus' mad solo in Let There Be Rock out on the hydraulic mini-stage was just mental. The real pisser was not meeting Donal(Madra Sneachta), he rang me at 2am, stuck in a bus in the venue. God knows what time he got home. How's she cuttin' boy!! I endorse the comments of my learned friend - The sight of Angus on the cherry picker in the pissing rain, with relentless sheets of water framed by spotlights like an aura around him, was nothing short of iconic. We caught the end of The Blizzards - They were on stage in the distance, but it felt more like a radio on in the background. As one person said in a post on one of the Irish message boards, the fact that the only real reaction they got was when they played a snippet of Jacko's 'Beat It' says it all. It was supposed to be Thin Lizzy, but Tommy Aldridge (drummer) fell off his bike and broke his collarbone. The Answer were OK - Honest to Goodness heads down, no nonsense mindless boogie, with a glorious accent on the lead singer that was half Belfast, half Memphis. I've waited 30 years to see AC/DC, and they were everything I hoped they'd be, and more. I had my 15 year old son with me, and the look on his face was priceless. The queue for the bus lasted longer than the gig, we finally boarded a park and ride bus at 2am, got out of the car park at 3am and climbed into bed at 6 after a 156 mile drive home, accompanied by Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds, the Decemberists' Hazards of Love and some live Moxy Fruvous, underscored by the snores of my angelic offspring splayed over the back seat. F**k it, t'was worth it, although I did feel a bit like Danny Glover at one point. Perhaps I am getting too old for this shit!!! About six minutes in, there's some lovely shots of Angus' rainy solo.
  5. From childhood - Steve Mc Garrett Frank Spencer (Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em) Wile E Coyote Judge (Wanderly Wagon) Pippy Longstockings More recently - Hiro Nakamura (Good call Goobs) Dana Scully Charlie Pace (Lost) Podge (particularly as the psychotic postman on The Den) Fr Dougal Maguire
  6. Day 9 and hanging in there. A bit better this week than last week, but nowhere near out of the woods yet. The patches are taking the edge off, but the biggest battle is with my own mind. So far, I'm winning!!
  7. OK, if no-one minds, I'm resurrecting this thread because as of 23.59 last night, I have smoked my last cigarette. I'm wearing the patch, on the basis that my last quit attempt was using the gum, but the problem was I found it reinforced the need for gratifiction - I had a craving, I acted. For the same reason, I decided against the inhalator, because it seems to me that reinforces the habit - Feel the need, take a drag. The idea with the patch is it's there, and if I feel the urge, I have to deal with that, knowing that the patch is delivering nicotine, and it's down to me to handle everything else. Sullysue, Owlswing, Mrs Huck et al, I hope things are going well with you.

  9. Bill Bailey is a genius of the highest order. I'm involved with my local theatre, and when we held a comedy festival a few years ago, I not only had the honour of meeting Bill, I got to introduce him on stage. It was an epic performance. The second time I saw him was at the Cat Laughs Comedy Festival in Kilkenny in the back room of a bar. His act was basically a condensed version of the Part Troll show, and culminated with his Kraftwerk tribute, which I hadn't seen before. Bill Bailey's Kraftwerk Tribute Now, seeing as I have a Hokey Cokey quote in my sig by Mr Billy Bragg, it's a nice segue into the next clip. Any Bill Bailey fans on this side of the pond will be familiar with his tribute to "the other BB". Now, Billy has a great sense of humour, so it's no surprise that this happened two years ago at Glastonbury Finally, an audience recording from Lattitude of Bill's classic Killers spoof from last year.
  10. Life of Brian Top Secret This Is Spinal Tap Honourable mentions - Airplane Monthy Python and the Holy Grail
  11. QUOTE (Jack Aubrey @ Mar 29 2006, 03:17 PM) QUOTE (ladirushfan80 @ Mar 29 2006, 08:48 AM) so do you think the guy being held captive is one of the 'others'? Part of me thinks he is. A lot of the things he tells people seems to sow discord, especially what he's been saying to Locke. Oh that zany Henry Gale.....whatever became of him? I must say Jack, speaking with the benefit of hindsight more than two years later, that was a rather perceptive observation. Funny too, it was only last night (when the series 4 finale aired here) that I realised the freighter was called "Kansas".
  12. Double episode season finale next week.
  13. Nothing much to add to the previous tributes. I've always loved the first album, and Here Again has always been one of my favourite Rush songs. I concur with the earlier comments about his dignified silence, something that a lot of today's 'celebs' could learn from. Like many others on the board, I've made jokes about John in the past, but I think they've always been underscored with a sense of affection. When John saw the potential for success, he stepped aside rather than stand in the way. That can't have been an easy decision to make, and fr that alone, he deserves the eternal respect of the Rushian community. RIP John.
  14. I wondered about Aaron, but as he was born on the island, I wasn't sure he would be counted as he obviously wasn't on the passenger manifest. I also have a sneaking suspicion they have something up their sleeves for Sawyer. He's been very much in the background so far in Series Four.
  15. This may be a dumb question, but who is the final member of the "Oceanic Six". Catching up on the thread, I noticed one of Jack's March posts contained a spoiler reference to finding out who the last two members were in the Sun / Jin episode. The impression given through the episode was that they were both survivors, but while Sun's scenes were flash forwards, Jin's were a brilliantly deceptive flash back. So, we know that Jack, Kate, Hurley, Sayid and Sun survived. Who is the sixth?. The other interesting thing is that in one episode, there was a reference to eight survivors coming off the island, two of whom presumably die before reaching safety. I'm wondering if Michael survives initially, but is killed, hence it is his coffin that Jack visits at the end of Series 3.
  16. The one that springs to mind with me more than any other is Angel Heart (Alan Parker 1987). When it finished, I had to try to remember what town I was in. Still one of my all time favourite films.

  19. Any film that contains the line "It's just an eye. The gods saw fit to grace me with a spare" is an out and out instant classic in my book.
  20. Signals (Although that may be amended if/when we get a remastered VT that doesn't sound like Godzilla eating seven cement mixers)
  21. QUOTE (Fat Organ @ Dec 20 2007, 08:29 PM) did anyone see the sequel "Soylent White"? (it was an SNL skit) No, but I have heard the song.... "Soylent White Take a bite They claim it's plankton, but that's pure shite!!!"
  22. QUOTE (treeduck @ Dec 19 2007, 11:20 AM) I hope some fool doesn't try and remake Soylent Green as well... From your mouth to God's ears mate......
