  1. It's kinda like things now. Throw the cart before the horse and not be surprised by what good or, I suppose bad as well, may come in the future. I am hoping for a couple of new albums but the track record based on the last two might bring us one more. But you can't second guess this stuff or should you them The recent interviews this year does have Geddy hinting at their age being a factor. Nothing specific or major yet but he's been saying things like "we're not spring chickens" etc since Snakes and Arrows concerning thier stamina and longevity.
  2. I ordered the white CA shirt a couple of days after the DC show from the Live Nation store because I like the design on it the best and the Rush store sold out . The Live Nation said InStock so Imordered one and later that day they told me they were temporarily out of stock on it andit would be two to three weeks until they had them back. It will bebtwo weeks this Tuesday. We'll see
  3. Nice review. Sums up my experience here in DC. I think the tour and show will get a lot better as time goes on and it sounds like it already has. I too got the Fanboy in me that appreciates everything they do. Thank you for your review
  4. Also the screen had video footage of hands raised in the air swinging to the chorus.
  5. Yeah from most accounts I've read and heard from others who have done the meet and greets with other bands thats more or less how I would imagine a Rush Meet and Greet would be but cooler :-) I did read one's account of a Rush Meet and Greet back in 1990 on the second leg of The Presto Tour. Was more or less like you wrote above. I could see the "hurry factor" being an issue if they were late etc. But being told to cheer is ridiculous.
  6. If thats the case why bother? I know they ain't got time to be your friend etc. A little more time would be more genuine. Maybe less winners IDK? Cheering for them might go naturally but I don't like the idea of it being scripted to you before they walk in.
  7. I voted for Bravado because they seemed to play that one forever. Doesn't mean I don't like it. Just have heard it so much on my own and seeing them play it nearly every show since it's release. They have their reasons and I'm cool with it. Just saying. After voting I forgot that Red Sector A carries the same sentiment with me. I liked the song but again they play that one quite frequently. Working Man would be next but I'd rather hear Working Man more than the above two. One of the pillars that held rush up to be bold and famous.
  8. If I have to choose then it's Clockwork Angels. Like they have elaborated in interviews especially Neil, they have never written a song in that Rhythmic fashion or something along that lines. When that song came on for the first time I played the CD I was hypnotized by the build up and atmospherics of it all. To me this is Rush 2012. I hate choosing and tend to insist everything be taken as a whole. So I gotta say The Anarchist is fantastic and more. Geddy is clearly on FIRE with his bass playing here. In fact haters of this whole album I do not understand why they can't connect or get into it.
  9. Agreed and more. "It's so today" though don't you think? Nothing sacred from being analyzed and broken down to death, least common denominator, reality show in motion with everything, critical analysis, etc etc,.... trying not to be such a ranter hoser bit I'm lettin loose a little. Everybody's gotta get their top dollar bottom line figure what they paid for. Entitlement set list. But it's been kinda like that before internet but you didn't hear or read about until you were with people at the show or the friends/fans etc, afterwards. Everythings been magnified 10x's over. I remember people having varying degrees of impressions negative and positive since my first show Hemispheres 1979. Sometimes I feel like I am the only one in my sector that appreciated anything they did over the years. I know it ain't true after being in this awesome forum with all you fine rush fans :-) Out of my high school class of kids from the 70's I am have been in touch with a lot of them that got into Rush when we all did and I am the only one still following them. I have asked myself over the years why I still like them. Don;t always have an answer other than I love them.
  10. The opening keyboard intro to Subdivisions. For a few hours now. Sometimes the bridge-Chorus. To the above poster. Chemistry good song to have stuck in your head too :-)
  11. I don't think they need to bring it up. Fine if they mention it. But I agree it is more a hammer for the media and political pundits to beat us over the head with. I take offense that the news and politicians etc. tell us how we should feel or act for events such as that every year. What happened that day effected us all in varying degrees. Some worse than others obviously. Having dredged up my opinion I will say that it is highly likely they make some mention. Last night at the Bristow show they did a tribute on screeen to Neil Armstrong that was very classy. Alex, Geddy, and Neil class act all the way.
  12. I think its crazy to throw away your chance at seeing them because you now have the power to know most things about a show before you even set foot at the concert hall. Given the set list may not be what you were hoping for you but you may be cutting off the other part of it being a great concert experience altogether?
  13. Well thought out dayglow76. I wish I could organize my thoughts that way sometimes.
  14. I also think the haters of the Grace Under Pressure and Power Windows era who didn't see the show, or were not around, into Rush might appreciate it more live back then and from what I see in these vids and bytes really well played songs. If you did see them play these back then and still hate them then I'll echo what somebody else said here. "Sorry for your loss" Seriously I look at some these songs as parallel or relevant to whats going on the World right now. Whether Rush is thinking this or just coincidence doesn't matter. I think it's great we're getting to hear any Rush in 2012. Territories. Worked then and is definitely working now on social level as well as World stage. Manhattan Project. Written during the "Cold War" still seems relevant and stills seems like there's plenty freezing on the political front, and the wars going on right now might be more hot than cold but still a cold war. Body Electric. Look what's happening to us all in the Digital World. We may find ourselves panicking for 1-0-0 1-0-0 1-SOS sooner than we can see Rush play this song ever again. Well I suppose I'm typing too much. I'm still looking forward to seeing the show despite spoiler alerts and some things I thought initially as a negative experience. To the guy who is selling his Tampa tickets you should go anyway. Don't judge the show from us all wanking on a forum. You may just be surprised.
  15. I suppose it's possible. When they played Show Me Don't Tell Me on the Presto Tour and Roll The Bones Tour, Alex helped out with the chorus but you could also also hear it then as well as on the Different Stages version an extra Geddy harmony which I would guess if they were doing anything double tracking his voice for that part by triggering it as a sample from the sampler to thicken it up. Just me guessing. Now back to Lip Synching. I am willing to give Ged the benefit of the doubt for it with this theory. When you saw it looked like Lip synching were you looking at the over head screens? Kinda important because there is a slight delay of sound and vision in these live settings. Perhaps that might be why. The megaphone sound you are referring to also is done via vocal processor which also can be problematic live. That section of the song gets lighter because the guitar switches to a more acoustic tone and the dynamics of the whole song switches. Just some ideas and thoughts. If they are Lip Synching then they are. I don't think they should have to though. There may be other reasons why they would but who knows without asking them. Maybe somebody who gets lucky enough for the Meet and Greet can ask them or on one of those Radio call in shows?
  16. This will probably read as closed minded perhaps even for a fan who learned the importance of change by Rush themselves growing up. I've always liked my Rush experience with just the 3 of them. Didn't like the idea of touring with an Orchestra/String Ensemble whichever it will be. now I may end up loving it and in fact reading the spoiler alerts above kinda juices it up a bit. Geddy and the guy behind the stage triggering the more difficult keyboard passages along with Alex, has done just fine for Synth and Orchestra. Doesn't matter what I think obviously and they're doing what they want to do and I trust them to perform a great show with Clockwork Angels. I understand why they would want to as well. Maybe I am worried they will get smaltzy over it IDK? Guess I'll find out Sunday What do you all think?
  17. Just like many I would love a close floor ticket. Can't ever spring $300 for any concert myself. My evil side would drive me to a music store first for another instrument. Like others have said before if folks stopped paying they may stop doing. But it's not going to happen. Doing the math if you buy some of the stuff T-Shirt, program, etc. it brings it down a little. It's amazing how buying a ticket now is almost like walking down a virtual organized skid row of handouts. Up until the last click of "Buy Tickets" there is a bunch of tagged on options to take your money. Some might be well spent other options seem to be just a waste of "your money". After going through two experiences this week forking over hard earned dough for shows and seeing many seats selling out in minutes, crashing the Live Nation systems multiple times, I gotta say: What bad economy? And all I gotta say is Personally though no matter how good the seat that close is you miss quite a lot of the production that goes into Rush. On the one hand being that close is an experience unto itself and different than being in other sections. But farther back midway somewhere there are more sweet spots for taking in everything. I got pretty close for the Time Machine 2010 leg last time around via pre-sale not floor close. This time took my chances and got second tier in front of Geddy this time round and am quite happy with it.

    Headlong Flight

Come on. They all kick ass on this song. The excitement that "they are generating" through this latest offering is undeniable. I find them now more than ever inseparable. Once again Booujzhe knows how to steer the Rocinante for these guys. No it ain't 1970's or early 1980's Rush like so many around my sector wish for. I like it.
  19. I agree it was one hot show! They were smokin. The new cameras, lights, screens, production all of it was awesome and very cutting edge as expected but it seemed more so this time than any other. More full on HI-DEf? Loved the grainy effect on the screen making them look like they were in old B/w movies. The last tour lights were really cool too but this time I think it really exceeded. I went to this show alone cause my brother backed out a month or so ago. I've done concerts alone before not for a while though. They can be beneficial. Like you can move to where you need to be in a crowd faster cause it's just you. It can be kinda lonely too. This was my 14th Rush show. Until the tragedy I'd seen every tour since 1979 with the exception of VT. My take on Marathon with Alex was supreme. Especially the ambient midsection with the dreamy keyboard and Alex's ambient guitar washes. I also thought the new songs went over great but I'd also been listening to them daily up to this show. I also wasn't too excited to read that Presto was on the list even though it's been retired for some time, they played it a lot in the early 90's. Just wanted them to really change things up. I found myself loving it not that I ever thought it was bad song. And just how much that song meant a lot to me and is a very Rush song when you think about it. My friends who never let Rush off the hook for changing after Hemispheres, ragged on me all the time about that album. The Camera eye was my main reason for wanting to see this tour not that I wouldn't go if they didn't but finally something well IDK the word-different- than what's expected? Glad they did it and Vital Signs. Neil sunded and played great I never think that he doesn't a few times during the solo the timeing seemed to be out of sync with the electronics or the delay time on the effects. Not sure. I noticed he seems to have his eyes closed a lot now when he plays? Never noticed that much before. From a tech point of view being a bass player myself wish Geddy would get back to the Rickebnbackers. His Alchemy laden Jazz bass seems like he has a new one, and the Red bass that is tuned for the detuned 2112 sound great and have all the features etc. that make him great and I know he is in his element and probalby the Jazz bass is "his" element. But those Rickenbackers on those classic songs are the 'shiz" as the young people say. Notation from the concert for future reference: Just say "No" to Jiffy lube Live and their dust bowl of a parking lot. I left over two hours early and that place is about an hour from home. I got to the exit just before 6:30PM and waited, and waited, waited, moved up, waited moved, and waited, waited, and all the while my watchmaker-time machine in the car counted down the hour until 7:30PM showtime I was not even at the entrance. By some miracle everyone's cars got in at some point I was walking across the parking lot at a steady pace by this time I was exasperated to give in to "Force Majure", and I heard Spirit Of Radio Blasting through I had to make a pit stop after 2 and half hours in the car, then heard them break into Time Stand Still and made it to my seat just before the end of it. It was the first time I was ever late to the beginning of a Rush. Even in the worst days of the Capitol Center they were able to handle the mess of people flowing in. Jiffy Lube live and their former care taker Nissan never lifted a finger to make the dust bowl that is their parking lot any better. Forget about the dust just figure a way to make it easier for folks to get in though I'm blowin hot air probably they will never get it right probably. It was bad from their first concert in 1995 and got a little better maybe because of bad press helped, and then it seems in recent years depending on the concert progressively worse. I know they have to gauge each concert on tickets and past records whatever? I won't pretend to know. But it seems like they can do something way better than what they ahve right now. And paying the premium prices for a ticket like Rush warrants it but you may think differently. Just about everyone I talked to around me had the same thing happened and they missed a few songs, one guy told me that a group arrived in time to see Subdivisions and then the intermission happened. They were like what? -JonnyJ http://synth.me
  20. Hello all Solar Federalists. I am heading to the Bristow show on Saturday and was wondering if anyone here who has been going to some of the shows this tour know if the merchandise stands are accepting credit cards for T-Shirts, programs etc? I don't carry cash these days but guess I'll have to get some for a program and maybe a shirt. These days a lot of the shows they do but I have attended some that don't. Not Rush though. They were in Bristow in 2007 the last time I saw them. Cheers! -Jon
