  1. QUOTE (trenken @ Aug 2 2012, 07:37 AM) QUOTE (eshine @ Aug 2 2012, 02:50 AM) It is succinct. The guy sounds like a Rush fan but not a fanboy. His comments are right on the mark. QUOTE Geddy Lee's bass is mixed further up-front than it has been in some time -- which makes his mind-blowing chops resound: there are amazing pizzicatos interspersed in driving hard rock fills and edgy, off-kilter funk riffs. His voice is more nuanced and more emotionally expressive. QUOTE Alex Lifeson's acoustic guitars have an established place here, but his electric axes roar over them throughout. QUOTE Peart's drumming is the catalyst: his technical mastery makes his playing sound purely instinctive. CA is full of dynamic surprises I've read all the reviews of this album, but this one seemed so immediate to me - and unbiased. It hit all the right buttons for me. John Myung has MIND BLOWING chops. Geddy has never even been remotely close to that complex of a bassist. i realize you're trying to make a point about the mind blowing chops etc...but what it comes down to is everyone has a different set of ears. john myung is like the eddie van halen of guitar with the blazing speed and all the tapping but everyone has a different style. john myung might be a great bass player, and dt might be great to many fans, but to me i can't listen to it.
  2. QUOTE (eshine @ Aug 2 2012, 04:23 AM) QUOTE (RUDT @ Aug 2 2012, 04:02 AM) "Halo Effect" is destined to be among the band's classic power ballads with a dramatic middle and end. I missed something here quoting this, halo effect is more a mediocre ballad. I completely disagree. I think It's up there with Tears, Madrigal and Different Strings. obviously the garden is much longer than those 3 but putting aside the lyrics, the garden drags along musically and vocally for me. i repeat, for me. the other 3 flow along effortlessly and just easy to listen to.
  3. QUOTE (av450 @ Jul 30 2012, 08:18 PM) I really hope that they don't play Caravan and BU2B again. I like those songs but once was enough.
  4. QUOTE (They Bow Defeated @ Jul 30 2012, 07:42 PM) QUOTE (ReflectedLight @ Jul 30 2012, 05:19 PM) guess you missed my posts where i said i like tai shan, high water, and dog years. 3 songs that a high majority of people would call filler or total crap. So you like those three more than The Wreckers? And you LIKE the Dog Years chorus, when he stretches DOG out to two or three syllables? And the lyrics? DO-O-OG years It's the season of the itch DO-O-OG years With every scratch it reappears At least be consistent! i can honestly say i like all 3 of those songs more than the wreckers.
  5. QUOTE (snowdogged @ Jul 30 2012, 07:44 PM) QUOTE (ThinkingBig @ Jul 30 2012, 07:41 PM) QUOTE (An Enemy Without @ Jul 30 2012, 11:46 AM) Let's begin with the name. BU2B2. Bland. Uninspired. Uncreative. The name truly embodies everything there is to dislike about the song. It does a nice job of foreshadowing how boring the song you are going to listen to really is. When I bought the album I looked at the song list. I saw BU2B2 and thought, "why would they name a song that? What a shitty name." The name fit perfectly. It sucks. So let's discuss. What makes this song so bad? Why was it ever recorded? It's funny you used the words 'suck' and 'hard' in the same sentence. You really have to stop "Thinking Big"! i don't condone this kind of talk but.....
  6. would be nice to see him bring out the old dog in the rickenbacker but he said it weighs a ton so i don't expect him to use it.
  7. QUOTE (SUBDIVISIONS @ Jul 30 2012, 12:32 PM) CARAVAN BU2B and THE WRECKERS will be there too. unfortunately.
  8. i think it's an exercise in getting everyone to become more familar with the skip button. it worked.
  9. QUOTE (NYM86 @ Jul 29 2012, 10:00 PM) QUOTE (clearingsky @ Jul 27 2012, 08:41 PM) No one complained when Ged sang about the goings on in a dog's brain. And now we know about the "constant blur of low-level static" That was a tongue-in-cheek song to begin with, and its lyrics are actually pretty clever. i like dog years.
  10. the garden might be a big part of the story but it feels like a chore when i try to listen to it. there are a few weeds in there.
  11. QUOTE (losingit2k @ Jul 28 2012, 04:26 PM) Right now I think we are at: Tom Sawyer The Spirit of Radio Caravan BU2B The Anarchist Carnies Headlong Flight and The Wreckers I'm fine with all of them! only 3 beer/pee breaks out of 8 for me so far. not bad.
  12. QUOTE (Gedneil Alpeart @ Jul 28 2012, 12:57 PM) QUOTE (deathlikesilence @ Jul 27 2012, 07:00 PM) i really hope the opener isnt far cry, and i actually like far cry They should open with Dog Years.....all Rush fans would looking at each other with a WTF look and I would be rolling on the floor laughing my arse off...... i'd rather hear dog years than far cry.
  13. i guess geddy didn't fight it, like calling up neil and saying, neil c'mon, wary contrary?
  14. if the opener is far cry that would be ok since i wouldn't mind getting it out of the way early.
  15. QUOTE (Tombstone Mountain @ Jul 27 2012, 11:32 AM) QUOTE (ReflectedLight @ Jul 27 2012, 11:30 AM) if there is another album i'd like to see someone different in the mix. If it aint broke do mess with it some of it's broke.
  16. QUOTE (Gedneil Alpeart @ Jul 27 2012, 11:31 AM) QUOTE (ReflectedLight @ Jul 27 2012, 11:30 AM) if there is another album i'd like to see someone different in the mix. like Terry Brown? don't think it would happen but i like the guy from tool.
  17. if there is another album i'd like to see someone different in the mix.
