  5. QUOTE (Xanadoood @ May 28 2009, 12:04 PM)Some heavy bands from the Boston area to check out that never really broke open but were all quite unique.....were around in the 90s mostly. Scissorfight 6l6 Quintane Americana Sam Black Church Honkeyball I can't believe you left out 'Only Living Witness' !?!? http://www.reflectionsrecords.com/records/img/news/articles/olw-cover.jpg
  6. QUOTE (VarianStar @ May 27 2009, 11:33 AM)QUOTE (Presto-digitation @ May 27 2009, 07:13 AM) Tori Amos (FROM THE CHOIRGIRL HOTEL) = her very best; just dig in I could never get into Choirgirl, Pele has always been my favorite Tori album. I always wish more people knew of Sky Cries Mary. "This Timeless Turning" was them at their best. Choirgirl is very good, but it's hard to compare - Pele is such a colossal and introspective record (Choirgirl is much more of a 'band' record) I love them both but hey; who wants to talk Amos when you've mentioned one of the most brilliantly obscure/obscurely brilliant bands to ever float out of Seattle: SKY CRIES MARY!?!! I had the pleasure to catch them on tour four times - the 1st night had them opening for Shriekback w/Mike Cozzi doing double duty, playing guitar in both bands - '92 or '93 I believe 'This Timeless Turning' remains one of the finest prog-pop-neopsych records in existence, and still receives nothing but "wow! what is this?" responses from most everyone I play it for 'Don't Forget The Sky' is the hit single that should've been '4:00am' is the best song Pink Floyd never wrote (and also, everything good about 14 minute-long ambient songs) [and trust me, VS - we'll be the only two members who've ever heard of them ] http://www.skycriesmary.com/images/38-timeless.gif SCM - This Timeless Turning MP3's
  7. Peter: "Ssssssssssssssssssssss! Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Ssssssssssssssssssssss! Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Ssssssssssssssssssssss! Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Ssssssssssssssssssssss! Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Ssssssssssssssssssssss! Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Ssssssssssssssssssssss! Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Ssssssssssssssssssssss! Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!"
  8. QUOTE (Snowdog92 @ Mar 23 2009, 05:16 PM) You know your a rush fan when you own one of their 1970's albums on vinyl [c'mon SD - that's setting the bar pretty low] You know your a Rush fan when you own all of the albums they produced on vinyl, have a turntable and tube amplifier, and still actively listen to the albums this way! [...hang on, I'll go cue up something fun... ok - now playing: Freeze from side D of Vapor Trails]
  9. QUOTE (EmotionDetector @ Jan 28 2009, 02:13 PM) WORKING MAN However, I'd like to give props to HERE AGAIN, as it's really grown on me over the past year! HERE AGAIN (every time I think we don't agree, you caveat your answer with my favorite, ED! *see the rest of the Best Songs threads*) what are we, twins?
  10. QUOTE (EmotionDetector @ Jan 28 2009, 02:17 PM) THE FOUNTAIN OF LAMNETH In an extremely close second place, I would put THE NECROMANCER. (it's official - ED = GW) The Fountain Of Lamneth
  11. I'm in the vast minority here (I think 2112 is over-rated and over worked... really, the sound of Rush trying way too hard to make an 'epic') Something For Nothing makes the cut for me (Lessons, too) ...maybe on the odd day the Grand Finale otherwise, forgettable
  12. QUOTE (EmotionDetector @ Jan 28 2009, 02:19 PM) XANADU Enough said! (can't I say it again, though?) *ahem* Xanadu.
  13. QUOTE (EmotionDetector @ Jan 28 2009, 02:21 PM) LA VILLA STRANGIATO 1) The world's best instrumental. 2) My all-time favourite guitar solo. 3) Possibly my favourite Rush song. (sigh) I should just vote and quote ED's posts from now on... LVS
  14. QUOTE (EmotionDetector @ Jan 28 2009, 02:22 PM) NATURAL SCIENCE This could almost be a tie, as FREEWILL is also a flawless track, and one of my all-time favourite Rush songs! (are we the same person????) ...check the pinned 'Best Song' polls, ED - I'm finding (without looking at your posts 1st) that you and I are pretty much in 100% agreement across every album that's a lot of songs! (we'll just 'flip it' for PeW) FREEWILL This could almost be a tie, as NATURAL SCIENCE is also a flawless track, and one of my all-time favorite Rush songs!
  15. QUOTE (EmotionDetector @ Jan 28 2009, 02:23 PM) LIMELIGHT Really...can't I just pick all 7 songs? we agree (for the 1,000th time) here Limelight ...but there really is no 'second' place
  16. The Weapon that last chorus before the solo... "...used against them..." ...the keyboard sequencers bubble along in the background, the guitars start to 'wake up'... all the while Neil shuffles along with hi-hats and random snare cracks... I could listen to that section all night long Fear Trilogy Tour 2011!
  17. QUOTE (EmotionDetector @ Jan 28 2009, 02:27 PM) DISTANT EARLY WARNING Honestly, it could've easily been AFTERIMAGE, RED SECTOR A, THE ENEMY WITHIN, or BETWEEN THE WHEELS as well. What an amazing album! (phew... although you did name drop BTW) BTW for me red lenses and Afterimage are right there, too... there's not much here to complain about
  18. QUOTE (EmotionDetector @ Jan 28 2009, 02:29 PM) TERRITORIES Despite my name on here, Territories is simply too good! PoW is one of my all-time favourite RUSH albums. Not a weak moment on this record! TERRITORIES! My favorite, too!
  19. QUOTE (EmotionDetector @ Jan 28 2009, 02:30 PM) OPEN SECRETS Arguably one of Neil's finest moments in terms of lyrics! Awesome! Force Ten [ 101 ] [15.40%] Time Stand Still [ 156 ] [23.78%] Open Secrets [ 52 ] [7.93%] Second Nature [ 25 ] [3.81%] Prime Mover [ 71 ] [10.82%] Lock and Key [ 37 ] [5.64%] Mission [ 119 ] [18.14%] Turn The Page [ 65 ] [9.91%] Tai Shan [ 13 ] [1.98%] High Water [ 17 ] [2.59%] Total Votes: 656 LISTEN UP, PEOPLE! it's criminal that Open Secrets isn't in double digit percentages (ED, alright... this is getting silly) *heads to Power Windows and p/g threads to see if you picked Territories, Middletown Dreams, Between The Wheels or red lenses...
  20. QUOTE (EmotionDetector @ Jan 28 2009, 02:31 PM) SCARS Though I'd like to give a serious nod of approval to both CHAIN LIGHTNING and AVAILABLE LIGHT. These two songs are amazing, and I would love to see them both played live someday!! we definitely have similar tastes, ED Chain Lightning and AL go back and forth for me as 'the favorite' (I picked Chain Lightning today) Scars wasn't initially a favorite, but it was a big surprise on the '89 tour - blew me away, found a new appreciation for it
