  1. you've got a lot of good stories up your sleeve snaked.....now....how bout those dates? lol...
  2. agreed.....but we all have our favorite tracks.... i've been to 139 shows, never heard fly by night live, probably never willl, but it would be nice....same goes for something for nothing, in the end and a bunch of other songs..... just happy they still are a touring band....imagine if they had broken up in 84......wow, that's a lot of music and tours we never would have had....
  3. I WOULD TAKE THIS SETLIST WITHOUT EVEN THINKING TWICE AND GO TO WAY TOO MANY SHOWS......NICE LIST.....
  4. Keep in mind for my list I strictly went with songs not on the current tour, except for Middletown Dreams.... In a realistic world for R40, you know TSOR, TS and most likely some parts of 2112 will be there....most likely Limelight....and throw in a few CA songs... on my list, i know they will never play (well never say never) but most likely never gonna play live again, FBN, In the End, Something for Nothing, AFTK....and we'll probably never hear live Vapor Trail and songs like Cold Fire, Turn the Page, but you can never figure these guys out....who would have thought we'd hear most of Power Windows on the Clockwork Angels tour....especially when it was Signals 30th anniversary and the freakin dog is on the program cover.... I'd hope for some sort of medleys...if they have to be like R30 with no vocals from Geddy, well, whatever....I wasn't too thrilled when I heard the R30 Overture and there were no vocals, but I'd rather them play old stuff with no singing than not at all...
  5. bored, yes.... but tell me you wouldn't want to see this show....wouldn't be too bad, eh?
  6. Thought I would just do this for fun, cause I am going nuts waiting for the 2013 CA tour dates.... my idea, compile a setlist of what I would want to hear for R40 without using the songs from the current 2012-13 tour....except Middletown Dreams, one of my all time favorites... also trying to pick songs not played too much from 2002-2013... R40 Overture: Finding my Way/Anthem/Bastille Day/Something for Nothing/A Farewell to Kings/La Villa Strangiato. freewill red barchetta countdown afterimage middletown dreams turn the page scars cold fire test for echo vapor trail malignant narcissism (short drum solo in middle) 2nd set hemispheres passage to bangkok closer to the heart trees xanadu (drum solo) natural science encore: long medley In the Mood/fly by night/by-tor/losing it/In the End/in the mood
  7. If there's anyway Middletown Dreams could become an every show song, I would be in heaven.. i doubt that's gonna happen... it's one of my all time favorites and I only got to hear it five times out of my 13 shows...I'd give up any of the other Power WIndows songs to keep Middletown....
  8. not sure how true, but was told by a friend who seems to have knowledge of logistics, that the RRHOF performance will be just that performance out west as they would only need one truck full of equipment rather than the full stage set up, lighting, etc....he seems to think the april/may shows will be east as well, right before they go to europe.... has nothing to do with anything, but now that the nhl is coming back...ok, time for rush dates...
  9. Janie, just so you know they have already booked the string ensemble and road crew from april - august....they wouldn't play 10 dates in europe that ends in early June and then take another long break til august to get things started.... I don't know for a fact that there will be US shows in April before the Euro shows, but they will be playing in Los Angeles in April for the RRHOF couple of songs so they will be up and running and back to playing one way or another in april.... I think the idea of the 2013 tour is to get it done sooner than later so they can take an extended break from touring and other Rush related work for a long while... With the expectations that there could be an R40 type tour in 2014-15.....Alex said on Eddie Trunk that the next few years were mapped out in pencil....which, if you know Alex, doesn't mean squat, but they would be silly to pass up the chance to play a retrospective tour.... All they have to do is focus on 2112 and Hemisphere and all the old time 70's Rush fans, who are in their 50's, will come out in droves for that...I would be betting on that... I spoke to Ray Danniels in April 2011 at the Cleveland show and mentioned the idea of an R40 tour and he responded by saying, "Have you been looking at my notes?" He was all for it and said that all you had to do was get the guys on board and it was gonna happen....based on what we've heard, it seems like a good possibility....they aren't gonna be around for a R50, so i think R40 would be the last retrospective tour, any tours that came after that would involve new music...
  10. what are you guys talking about? the euro tour is 10 shows over three weeks may 22-june 10.... they've already said the 2013 North American tour would fall between April and August 2013 with the stopover in Europe in the middle.... not sure why you think they need another five months off after 10 Euro shows? also heard the dates are coming in the next two weeks, let's hope....
  11. No, those dates on the rush website were from this past fall....not sure why they are on there.....Dec 2 in Houston was the last show of the fall Clockwork Angels tour... The bogus dates were on the internet a few weeks ago and there are threads about it on this board.....it was a silly list made up by someone that listed shows at outdoor venues that aren't even open for the season on the dates that are mentioned.....they also had made up names of venues and old names of venues, it was a completely bogus list of dates....
  12. I am not complaining, in fact, so thankful as I am sure most of you are, that we have tours to discuss.....but if they are coming back as soon as April, or at the latest June, after Europe, I so wish we had the dates already.... I work as a freelancer and I just got offered shifts for April, which I accepted, but in the back of my mind I am saying, "I need the work, but man I hope it doesn't conflict with some of the shows I am hoping to go to." We had the 2012 dates so many months in advance, it seems odd that we have nothing right now, not even those with connections to individual venues who have rumors.... And of course, those bogus dates, which was pathetically put together and made no sense at all..... The 2013 Euro dates were released about a year ahead of the shows..... Figured after the holidays we would have something....hoping this thread will be moot really soon and something will magically happen in the next few days.... For those of you who travel and go to multiple shows per tour, there's nothing like having a pile of tour dates and a calender and a map and start planning some road trips.... I will also be really curious to see if there are any tweaks to the setlist, especially with the rotating songs.... Besides them adding Afterimage, Vapor Trail, Sweet Miracle, Cut to the Chase, Cold Fire, I really hope Middletown Dreams survives....
  13. Here's my take.... R40 is gonna happen....i don't even think they need one new song.... i met a lot of fans during the current tour who were pretty upset with the lack of the all-time classics.... so they bring out the R40 tour, promote that all the all time favorites will be played....i.e. freewill, hemispheres material, xanadu, etc....and that brings out all the 50 year olds who grew up on rush in the late 70's....they will fill arenas with this kind of tour, nobody will leave moaning and it will be a complete success.... then, they relax a while and prepare for the next album, which i think will be the last....(but you never know) the album is released in 2016 or so.....they tour 2016-2017.....and perhaps ride into the sunset.....i mean, they could still be doing this when they are 70 years old but somehow i think they go out on top.... keep in mind about their touring.....yes, its not easy, life on the road is a struggle...but they are doing it in some sort of luxury....they are not preparing meals and doing dishes in an RV, they have first class treatment all the time....(well, except for neil, but that's his choice) they also had 10 day breaks between legs of this past fall tour and can go home and sleep in their own beds, catch up with their wives and family and recharge...they are not going three months straight....they also did not play back to back nights all fall... its hardly the touring they did back in the day when they said they would do 11 days in a row, one day off, nine more days, one day off.... ged and alex are flying everywhere....neil is doing his bmw thing..... i see them taking advantage of their popularity now, with the RRHOF induction of 2013, they will still be flying high for an R40 tour, more casual fans will come out....they will play a complete retrospective, everybody will be happy and then they focus on resting and the final chapters of their career....
  14. I got an Alex shirt opening night in Manchester with "my car goes fast"
  15. For those who like to travel to see Rush, the release of dates is like a kid on christmas morning.... Its a mad rush to check a map and a calendar...
  16. Bottom line.... they skipped a ton of usual stops, if they want another successful US run, its there for the taking.... I can think of at least 30 places that they either skipped or could return to.... They will no doubt return to Chicago, Philly, NY/NJ, Detroit, West Coast...etc... Plus they skipped Denver, Portland, Nashville/Memphis, Raleigh/Greensboro, Miami/Ft. Lauderdale, Milwaukee, etc. etc. Plenty of venues to play....
  17. Well, I think all my speculation is based entirely on the premise that yes, they might call it a day at any time for any reason... One day Neil could wake up and say, "I have a little girl, I don't feel like being away from her anymore," and boom, he's done...rush is done... My speculation is based on the fact that they know the end is near and they are really juiced right now that they have this kind of popularity and can still perform at a high level....when that high level starts to fade, who knows? days, months, years....no one knows... My commentary is really a best case scenario, what I am hoping for, not expecting.... I just did 10 shows and have three more Texas shows to go for 2012 specifically because it could end soon. we just don't know.... having said all that..... I still think the R40 tour is a no-brainer....if they want to do it..... They don't need new material.....if they play the epic classics, the venues will be full....they are on a roll....and think of this....let's say they come back from Europe and do 30 North American dates from July-September.... If they came out with an R40 tour in spring 2014, that still gives them the entire Fall/WInter of 2013-14 to rest....and without having to worry about a new album, it could truly be rest, without all the writing sessions, meeting, etc...it can just be time off.... but on the flip side....these guys like to work, they might start getting ancy to write some new material....and with the success of CA, they might feel like its time to seize the moment.... if you read the last few months of interviews, it sounds more like they know this is the swansong and they want to take advantage of the time left, not sit around, i think they feel they have their 70's and beyond to sit around and rest on their achievements....to me, I see them going full steam ahead (forgive the pun)... but as always, one of them slams their hand in a car door, yeah, its all over, that's the way life works...
  18. It goes without saying that there are no promises of tomorrow or the future in general....so it could certainly happen that any one of them decides its just too much of a grind, or they don't feel they have the chops anymore to play an extended tour, or they just don't want to anymore.... but... Even Neil, who has a very young daughter growing up, has said that a band plays live and I just don't see a day when Rush puts out new material and then doesn't tour to play the album (or at least a big chunk) live.... The R40 tour is a total no brainer....they can go out and play all the usual venues, possibly stretching it to two 30-40 show legs seperated by a few month break, and play a setlist that brings out all the old time Rush fans....for example, they play some sort of R40 overture, jacobs ladder, Broon's Bane/Trees/Xanadu, Hemispheres, Natural Science, Something for Nothing, etc. etc. That kind of setlist brings out of the woodwork a whole slew of rush fans who are big fans of the 70's stuff....Throw in some deep cuts from the 80's, 90's and you have a successful tour without having to put out any new material... then after an extended break, they get together probably for the final time (but who knows) and put out another hour of new material, and then tour extensively off the new album.... there's no way to know if any of this will happen, but as long as they all stay healthy and interested, I don't see why they wouldn't keep going for another 6-8 years.....10 years might be stretching it, and yeah, three hour shows are a grind, especially for Neil, but he has made some adjustments with his solos to spread it out over the whole show... I would be shocked, really shocked, if Rush ever had an opening band again on a tour....I don't see them scaling back the show to play for less time on a nightly basis...I think they either stick to the current format that has gone on since the Test for Echo tour or they just don't do extended tours anymore.... If they decided not to do an extended nationwide tour, but wanted to do a limited engagement set of shows like multiple nights in cities like New York, LA, Chicago, etc...that would be better than no live Rush at all, but I see a few more extended tours before they are done...
  19. Just to clarify, i don't have a source per se....i have heard from crew members they have already been retained for 2013 tour....as mentioned above, they are routing it as we speak and i heard from another crew member that dates might be released as soon as week after thanksgiving.... plus, you don't really need a source, just common sense, as said also above, there is no way to hire the string ensemble and especially crew for 11 shows in 2013....that's just the way it is... plus, every interview from the band themselves continually discusses how much they love the new material and how much they want to tour NOW while they can... i can totally see the following happening.... 2013.....final leg of Clockwork Angels tour... 2014....40th anniversary tour (hopefully with more of the standard classics, i.e. Xanadu, Trees, Hemispheres, Natural Science, Freewill, etc. etc.) 2015...possible spillover of 40th anniversary tour, or just resting.... 2016/17/18 (depending on when they create new material) Another full north american/euro tour highlighting a new album.... beyond that....who knows, but by 2022, they will be 70....if neil can still do three hours of touring at that point, god bless him but you figure the rush machine will come to a halt by the end of this decade, assuming they are all still aboard and want to do this... for the future I am totally in favor of them doing smaller venues like theatres that hold like 3,500 to 6,000...but i am not sure they will do that.... I have been to 10 shows on this tour, with 3 more texas shows to go....they have filled buildings on the weekend shows, and during the week shows haven't sold as well with many upper level of arenas have been curtained off, but they still have drawn about 7,500 to 9,000 at those shows.....philly on a friday night was packed in the upper level, so was Prudential center in newark on a saturday night, very very big crowd for that one....brooklyn on a monday had some curtains in the upper bowl...meanwhile cleveland on a rainy sunday night also had curtains in the upper bowl as opposed to the DVD taping in 2011 which was a full house...
  20. Not sure if this has been covered, but just read about the possiblity of radio city and a 30 show tour for 2013... can't tell you about RCMH, but a 2013 US leg is a guarantee.... There is no way they are going to have the crew and the string ensemble come back out next May and go to Europe for 11 shows and then end the tour.....they just wouldn't get the whole thing cranked up again for such a short stint....plus, after months and months off for the winter and early spring, I am sure they would probably do some sort of brief rehearsals, just to get back into the groove...] They are not going to do all that for 11 Euro shows... plus they skipped so many major markets like Denver, Salt Lake City, Nashville, New Orleans, Raleigh... and if they did do the sheds again, you've got the typical northeast places like Scranton, Saratoga, Jones Beach, PNC NJ... they drew very well in Newark, Brookyln, Philly, Boston.....I am sure they would return to the huge markets like those and Detroit and Chicago... plus they have already admitted that the way a band makes money these days is touring....they are proud of CA, they like the ensemble, so they are going to milk it for at least another US leg in 2013.... They also have done the same type thing with Snakes in '07 and '08 and time machine in '10 & '11, so this would just be the completion of the pattern....
  21. Just wondering if they are going to hold true to form all the way through the tour with the A/B setlists.... Wondering if they might say, hey, we really like Middletown Dreams so much that lets play that from now on and drop body electric entirely... same might be said for the other mid show songs... I suppose it could happen with Carnies/Seven Cities but you would think they would keep switching those.... And you would also think they would keep switching out TSOR and 2112, but for me i would take 2112 with Grand Finale anytime over TSOR just cause Finale is a great way to end the show... I wish they would just open every tour with either TS or TSOR just to get them out of the way... My other question is there any chance the would start each part of the three north american legs with A.... It happens naturally with the second leg as EDM is a B show and the last of leg 1.... But for Seattle, the start of the third leg, would naturally start with a B show if they followed the A/B pattern all the way through....If they started with A instead after their short time off, it will alter how the shows go.... Adding San Diego has foiled my plans for two B shows in Texas, with SD added, it changes it to two A shows instead.....really need to hear Middletown Dreams as much as I can...
  22. I love just about any rush song and I don't completely hate Faithless, but the more i listen to it, its boring and depressing to me.... On the other hand, We Hold On, is exotic with awesome alex guitars and a mean neil drum section, would have loved for that one instead..... for me, most of this setlist is been there, done that.....even songs that i really love, like time stand still, i would have picked prime mover, open secrets, turn the page instead.... instead of marathon, another one that i have been there, done that....what about middletown dreams or territories.... I could on and on.....Afterimage, Cold Fire....Countdown is an awesome song but hasn't been played since radio city 83...... As I have said a million times on the other board, I still don't get why they won't do medley's anymore.....you can please those who want a whole bunch of stuff and just bang out 90 seconds of this and that....for like 10-15 minutes, people would go nuts, at least i would, although i know there are those who hate the idea of a medley..... you could play 90 seconds of AFTK, 90 of any part of hemispheres, 90 of xanadu, 90 of the trees, you get the idea.....
  23. I have to agree with Tick completely....i am one of those multiple show fans and because of what the ticket prices are, especially in the new york metro area, i have to rethink my plans this tour....i would rather drive to syracuse for three hours and pay $65 for a ticket close to the stage than go to PNC, which is an hour away, for $190.... it's the same show, i think its outrageous for the tickets to be so high in the new york area.....yes, some people make a ton of money in new york, but most of us in the NJ suburbs are just working stiffs like everyone else.... so a ticket in allentown, pa is $85, but the same seat at PNC is $190.... I can't imagine skipping the PNC show, but i don't want the lawn and the last time i went there for Rush I was in Row S of the 100 level and I still felt too far back.... On the last tour for Jones Beach, I sat halfway up the grandstand for half the price of the orchestra and because the venue is on the water, i really enjoyed the scenery and enjoyed the whole show, the lighting etc. I made a decision for that one show to sit further back and I enjoyed it, but normally i like to be in the first 10 rows from the stage, but because of the high prices and the VIP thing (don't get me started) I'm really not sure what to do this tour... If you look back at your stubs from 2002, 2004, 2007, check out the ticket prices, way more reasonable than they are now....yeah, i know its been a few years and things go up, but its like health care insurance and college, they shouldn't go up 300%
