  1. Everyone knows Counterparts is their best album start to finish....right? Come to think of it, start every rush show with TS just to get it out of the way...
  2. you're a madman.....mad i say, mad... (shouldn't you have been watching the wings win over those turds from chicago instead of on this board)
  3. I love Power Windows as well as Signals, Grace Under Pressure, Hold Your Fire, Presto and even Roll the Bones... But we all know that besides the new material and a few staples, the rest of the setlist comes from these albums.... So i thought about a setlist that replaced all the songs from the 82-91 era with songs from the 93-02 era instead... see what you think... Video Intro (Gearing Up) Vapor Trail Subdivisions Cut to the Chase The Big Money Test for Echo Force 10 Cold Fire Grand Designs Sweet Miracle The Body Electric/Middletown Dreams/Limelight Virtuality Territories Double Agent Analog Kid Ghost Rider Bravado/The Pass Leave That Thing Alone Where's My Thing (with drum solo) One Little Victory Far Cry Intermission (Clockwork Angels String Ensemble enters) Set 2: Video Intro (The Appointment) Caravan Clockwork Angels The Anarchist Carnies The Wreckers Headlong Flight (with drum solo) Halo Effect (with guitar solo intro) Seven Cities Of Gold The Garden Everyday Glory Manhattan Project/Dreamline The Percussor (drum solo) Driven Red Sector A YYZ (Clockwork Angels String Ensemble exits) The Spirit of Radio Encore: Tom Sawyer 2112 Overture/Temples of Syrinx/Grand Finale Video Outro (Office Of The Watchmaker) I would personally take my new set one over the current tour just because some of these songs have never been played and some haven't been played since that album's tour...I also had the benefit of seeing rush live in the 80's so I got to hear all the songs in the current first set back when those songs were released...
  4. cool stuff, so combine lotus land for the music and thunderhead for the stage presentation and you got something...
  5. The ALL CAPS handwriting of Neil in the body of the letter is identical to the lyrics sheets seen in Beyond the lighted stage.... I am no expert, but the Neil stuff seems on the up and up... Geddy's signature is certainly not the one we are used to seeing but its possible its legit and just signed a little different, but let the buyer beware....
  6. Okay, no one is going to be geddy lee, vocally, but i didn't really think this guy was too bad.....yeah, normally a rush tribute band has really lame vocals, no doubt, hard to find a suitable ged vocal sound..... I would still see this band, especially in 2014 or 15 if rush isn't touring, just to hear the music live and loud...I would certainly travel to St. Louis to see Rush, but I don't think i am heading to the midwest to see thunderhead.... Back in the day, I saw a group called Power Windows, not bad at all...east coast based....saw them in a bar in north jersey....
  7. I was not aware of this tribute band before today.... I just stumbled upon it...here is their website.... http://www.thunderheadrush.com/?id=1 they are based out of St. Louis.... While there are a few dozen rush tribute bands floating around north america, I don't think I have ever seen one go to this extent to replicate the rush on stage experience....they look a little like them....have videos and lasers....and use most of the same equipment to produce the rush sound.... i have seen a couple of tribute bands through the years....some were just a bunch of guys, sometimes four guys, just playing the songs in a bar, it was okay....and I have also seen one or two where they really recreated the rush sound which was cool to hear live and loud... So what do you all think about rush tribute bands? Anyone ever seen Thunderhead?
  8. Okay, i think i figured something out... yesterday, I was thinking about some of the successes you've all had with sending items to venues to be signed by the band....i have always wanted my avatar pic of my meet and greet with ged & alex signed to me....so i was thinking of sending that out this summer and seeing what happens....still haven't figured what to send for neil to sign, but it would be cool to have him personalize something.... so perhaps just thinking about that yesterday triggered my mad dash through my house looking for items for them to sign, as long as they were sitting in my living room watching my TV.....
  9. Why do you think I was so stirred by this dream...When I woke up and realized I had the dream, I too was wondering why the panic of looking through my stuff...and actually i don't really have all that stuff in reality.....i mean i do have all the LPs and a few various odds and ends, but i don't have a folder with photos or articles....I am not an avid collector of rush swag.... So yeah, here are the guys sitting on my couch, watching the documentary, all sitting there quietly watching, and I am in the basement and garage freaking out.... I do own a bunch of old NJ personalized license plates with RUSH on them in one way or another and I was trying to find them, thinking they could sign the plate...I have no idea why I wanted autographs, I don't really care about their autographs in real life.... If they were ever really in my house, okay, never gonna happen, but if it did, I would just want to sit with them and talk...period....maybe a quick pic with them on their way out, maybe sign one thing, just to capture the memory... dreams are so strange sometimes....i have had dreams where rush or a rush show, or something rush related is in there, but i don't think i have ever had a dream with the guys so much as the focus of the dream....
  10. Snaked, I had another dream.... I was standing outside the arena in Manchester, New Hampshire....I used my cell phone and called ticketmaster and scored fourth row seats for the Rush show that night....then some bozo named Snaked says, "stay on the phone." Snaked grabs my phone and get his own tickets with ticketmaster....except these tickets are front row..... oh, wait, that actually happened....now hand over that portland ticket and be done with it....or....I'll see you there....you can sneak me up to the front thank you....
  11. I think i meant that the house in my dream was the place where i lived and called my home, but it was much nicer than my actual home....ah, it was my "dream house."
  12. So I work overnights and that can be tough as far as sleep goes....so, i was sleeping during the early afternoon today and had one of those dreams I wonder if any of you had...a wacky dream with the members of rush in it... Right before I went to sleep I was watching some of the RRHOF HBO material on the internet since I don't have HBO..I watched the acceptance speeches and for the first time really started to understand Alex's blah blah story...pretty smart guy for someone who only says blah blah... Anyway, on to the dream, essentially Alex, Geddy & Neil, yes, Neil are in my house...but of course its a dream so its not my actual house, but in the dream its my house... They are watching the Rush documentary on my TV, why, who knows, but they are all sitting there watching it... What am I doing? I am frantically going through my Rush stuff looking for items for them to sign....but most of it isn't there....I go to my pile of LPs, there's only like two of them....all the others aren't there....I start looking through folders of pictures from thirty years ago looking for something for them to sign...but all I have is some lame newspaper articles and some lame magazine ads pulled out of the magazine... I start freaking out that when I return to the room, they will be gone and didn't say goodbye and I didn't get to take a few pictures with them and sign a few things... So I am just in my basement going through stuff wondering where is my cool Rush stuff and thinking they were going to leave.... and then I woke up.... really not much to it, but I found it interesting how much I was freaking that they were in my house for one, two that they were watching the doc and wondering why they cared and three trying to find anything related to rush for them to autograph....
  13. As said.....I think we should feel fortunate anytime they hit the stage beyond the end of the tour on August 4.... I wonder how they will balance their love of playing live shows with the deeper personal sacrifices that they will make as they continue to get older.... At some point the physical nature of playing long concerts is going to catch up with them no matter how in shape they are or how well they take care of themselves.... The fact that 60-year-old Neil is currently doing what he does on stage is incredible to me....will a 67-year-old Neil be able to pull it off seven years from now? one can hope, but......
  14. I called my cable company today... I can turn it on tomorrow and then turn it off Monday and only be charged for 3 days! I might just do it. Snaked, playing "Let's Make a Deal," again, are we? btw, can you send me a dvd of the event....thanks...
  15. A lot to digest here... so, 145 shows as of right now.... living in northern New Jersey, many shows have been within a few hours drive, from New Hampshire and Boston, Connecticut down to Maryland, Virginia and North Carolina, west to Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, Pennslyvania, north to upstate New York, Toronto, Quebec City, Ottawa, Montreal... Here are a few major trips....in 1992, drove down to Florida and saw four florida shows in Jacksonville, Orlando, Miami and St. Petersburg... in 2002, i drove to Toronto to visit a friend, rented a car there to save my old car and keep in mind the US dollar was really strong against the Canadian dollar back then... I went from Toronto, to Pine Knob in Michigan for two shows, down to Nashville for the show at the defunct shed in Antioch, TN....then drove to Texas for three shows in Houston, San Antonio and Dallas....then drove back to Toronto, returned the rental car and drove my car back from Toronto to NJ....okay....yeah...that was a lot of driving and in retrospect not the smartest plan ever.... Here are a few better ones....first flying experience for rush in May 1997....flew into Portland, Oregon....saw the show at the Rose Garden in Portland....up to Seattle for a mariners game in the now gone Kingdome...up to Vancouver for a show at the arena there....then down to the Gorge in Washington State.....down to Idaho where I went whitewater rafting on the payette river.....show at Boise State University tiny arena, more like a big gym.....then onto Salt Lake City for my final show at the Delta Center...then drove to Vegas and Los Angeles just because and flew home out of LA to NJ....that was probably my favorite rush trip ever.... in 2002, I also flew to the west coast and saw five shows at Staples Center, Irvine, Chula Vista, Phoenix and Vegas....another really great trip.... last fall I flew into Dallas and saw the three texas shows in Dallas, San Antonio and Houston.... and most recently I just did six shows in a row, driving from NJ to Nashville, then doing the Raleigh, Virginia Beach and Baltimore shows, driving home to NJ and then going to Mohegan Sun and Atlantic City, which were fairly easy drives the day of show and back.... coming up this summer planning on Hershey, Saratoga and Jones Beach.....a long long drive for two shows in Halifax and then doing the last three shows for sure in Salt Lake City, Denver and Kansas City, but thinking of adding on Portland and Vancouver right before that and doing one long trip....
  16. if you can't spend your free time looking over the catalog and making up a setlist, what are you supposed to do when the band is on break and then going to europe for a few weeks....
  17. people bash each other on this site far too much..... people are always saying, "oh, gee, another setlist, get a life." Well you know what.... AWESOME SETLIST!!! I would take this in a heartbeat.... if it was my setlist and a dream one at that, i would try to selfishly include personal favorites Cold Fire, Everyday Glory, Middletown Dreams, Afterimage and Open Secrets (just for alex's solo)
  18. we will be very lucky any time they ever hit the stage again and play any song after Aug 4...
  19. There is a pretty good chance we'll never hear The Camera Eye, Witch Hunt and Vital Signs live ever again....so for that reason alone, I was okay with the full MP.. yes, The first four songs off of the album have been played live plenty.....but it is their signature album as far as sales and popular culture.... I guarantee if they played all of Caress of Steel, these boards would have threads complaining big time...i say....bring it on...I would actually take just about any full length album live at this point, it would force them to play certain songs that never normally would see the light of day....
  20. So for many months, a lot of us speculated that if Rush started a 40th anniversary tour in the fall of 2014, that would give them essentially a year off the road (aug 4, 2013- time of rehearsals in 2014) but then Geddy came out before the 2013 tour started and said once they hit the end of this tour in Kansas City they are taking a long hiatus....and that they needed a long long break... over at riab they are quoting from the latest issue of Prog magazine.... Lifeson is not entirely opposed to the idea of a 40th-anniversary tour. "Maybe we'd consider doing one song from each of our 20 albums," he says. "And we could put in some different songs - not always depend on Tom Sawyer and The Spirit Of Radio. But I always say that before a tour and it never happens. It would be a lot of fun to go through the whole history of the band. But in our minds, it doesn't really matter if it's the 40th or the 41st anniversary." Lee 'agrees. "I wouldn't say no to a 41st or a 42nd anniversary tour," he says, laughing. "I'm not against the idea of doing an anniversary tour - I just don't know why it has to be the number 40. I think a 42nd anniversary tour is much funnier. Or wait till 2015 and do the 40th anniversary of By-Tor & The Snow Dog!" He is, of course, joking. But there are many Rush fans who would love to see Rush play a set based on their two albums from 1975 ... I had been hoping and hoping for some kind of anniversary tour before they embark on a new album, but while I think the idea of another anniversary tour is awesome, Geddy also said that they have already done an anniversary tour and that you can't go back....plus the time machine tour was a look into the past as well.... I think there is still a good chance we don't see them on stage in 2014 or 2015.....but i will hope I am so wrong....
  21. You were right. This was almost a smoke free show. Lotsa security and younger family members. Great energy though, and it was a great venue. The improv blew my mind! Can't wait to see them again. This is the first Rush concert that I've ever been to where I didn't smell any ... er ... unique and distinguishable smells. I did smell a cigarette at one point. Least fragrant Rush show ever. An awesome show though and a great energy. A great night! As mentioned...in the actual seating areas, there really is no massive smoking anything anymore and i think the general attitude of the arena personnel is that they would like to keep it that way.... everything really changed once the seating areas became cigarette free.... i remember the spectrum in phily, 1986, blue oyster cult opening for rush...the amount of smoke, cigarettes, pot, cigars, whatever, was insane.... it is nice to be in a more smoke free environment, i think its funny during tom sawyer when alex fakes smoking a joint and coughing all over himself, i'm thinking, yo alex, we can't do that anymore in here..... I always remember the thick haze when the lights came up at the end of the show back back during those years. :smoke: Quite different today. As long as someone isn't a moron about it, I have no issue with a little :smoke: when the lights are down and the band is rocking. Much preferable to a drunk idiot around me, imo. Mellow and grooving. Jah man. I don't want to smell a cigarette and that even bugged me even before we had smoke-free venues. I think you've got the right idea.... as long as someone isn't ruining it for others, can't really see what a puff of smoke over the crowd is going to do.... cigarettes and drunks are way more annoying.... during the entire clockwork angels portion of the show, i had this drunken idiot yelling for every rush song they weren't going to play..... "RED BARCHETTA, CLOSER TO THE HEART, FREEWILL, THE TREES, XANADU." it was so annoying, just shut up and enjoy the show, or go somewhere else and be a drunken moron....
  22. You were right. This was almost a smoke free show. Lotsa security and younger family members. Great energy though, and it was a great venue. The improv blew my mind! 23. you are 100% correct... it has everything to do with where you go.... example.....farm bureau live at virginia beach.... on the way in, they have these huge signs that says ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY, the use of illegal drugs is strictly prohibited.... so, you couldn't more scared to do that there, right? well....the entire concessions area is considered a smoking area...during intermission, i saw a young guy security guy sitting on a chair watching things from a long distance away.... around me, trees, fences, people smoking cigarettes....and other things....no issues, no problems, whatever you wanted to do, no problem, plenty of room for everyone.... so, despite the huge sign on the way in....and i am sure they have the policy....but, as long as you are smart about it.....mission accomplished....
  24. i still can't believe no CA dates. A friend of my and huge RUSH fan moved out there a few years ago. He said the nearest show to him this tour was many hours away. I can't understand how they are not doing any CA shows. More dates coming? I have not heard anything about that as a possibility. Anyone hear anything about why no CA shows or if more possible dates will come? According to the rush diehards that I speak with on the tour, they are going with the notion that the RRHOF ceremony counts as a tour date and if you look on Rushisaband.com, Ed who runs the site, also has Los Angeles listed as the first of the 2013 Clockwork Angels tour dates... Everyone is entitled to their opinion of course....but I argued and said that a tour date consists of the regular rush show, with the ensemble, with the current bells and whistles and with one of the full setlists.... I live in NJ, but will always find any excuse to travel out west, I love the whole desert southwest....I was so hoping rush was going to hit the SF bay area, sacramento, Reno, Vegas, Alburqueque, Phoenix, Tuscon, wherever they wanted....but they skipped all of that... Meanwhile they have been up and down the east coast and are doing many dates scattered throughout the midwest.... I have been hoping and hoping they add 6-10 shows for september, but everything is pointing to that not happening....Aug 5, 2013, the day after the last show in Kansas City will start a very long hiatus....don't expect anything in 2014, maybe even 2015....keep your fingers crossed...
  25. mohegan sun last night was 144... first was 9/23/83 radio city.... when this tour ends i should be at either 153, 155 or 157 depending on what i do about the dates during the first week of july...still have fully decided....
