  1. Losing It was played during soundcheck before every show since Lincoln....so, if they have not been sound checking it, you won't hear it live, and Losing It is the only song not in the regular set that has been sound checked, so there is no chance of any other song being added...
  2. Wow, it must be hard going through life when so much pisses you off.

As long as people don't block me with signs or something and don't constantly yell, I don't really care what they do, with the possible exception of smoking a lot of cigarettes. I don't expect everyone to conform to my idea of what makes an enjoyable concert.

I will say that when I go to concerts by myself or with friends, I don't take too many pics. But my wife likes to take a lot of pics and record my favorite songs. I sometimes get annoyed as is rather just watch the concert, but I'm really happy I have those pics after the concert.

And I will check my phone several times during a show to check the set list so I know if, for example, Stick it Out or Territories is coming up and I can go get a beer or smoke a bowl.

i don't have to tell you that you're free to do what you want during the show......

for me, every song, every moment rush is playing is precious, no way I'm missing Stick It Out or Territories or anything else....

plenty of time before the show and intermission to light up the sweet herb if so desired.....and of course, in some venues, its going on all around during the show....

Fair enough. I go to at least 3 shows every leg of each tour and would never miss out on a chance to see a song I haven't seen live before, even if it's not my favorite. But once I've seen them all, the weakest one or two are good opportunities to beat lines or have a toke.

I will say fair enough back to you....its your decision how you enjoy the evening...

  4. I think this topic brings up a bigger overall point...

some people who go to concerts care more about food, drinks and using their phones than they do about the actual show in front of them...

for me, the three hours of a rush show is why I am there....

before a show i don't eat or drink so i don't have to worry about the bathroom...

i love when i am in the first few rows, the show is going on, and some guy is trying to squeeze back to his seat and he has this whole tray full of food, like nachos or other stuff that requires you to look down and pay attention to what you are doing....

i get having food at a ballgame....a beer and a hotdog during a baseball game is pretty normal, the game has a pace to it, you are sitting there watching the game, enjoying the evening with a drink and some food...

but do you really need those nachos during a rush show?

i thought the idea of a rock concert was to lose yourself in the music, maybe do a fist pump into the air, bounce up and down a bit, not hurrying to grab a napkin cause you just spilled nacho cheese sauce on your shirt....

my attitude is that i didn't just drive all the way to this city and pay all this money for a ticket to care about food or drinks during a rush show, plenty of time to grab a meal after the show....

and don't get me started with the phone nonsense, you can't stop it, but its really out of control...

  5. Rush will never have a farewell tour. I'm sure of this because they take everything day by day and don't plan too far into the future...

when you think about it, every time they finish a major tour they take a big break because they want to focus on families and other interests and have no thoughts of what's next. then eventually they slowly start talking and writing again when the spark hits and it leads to an album/tour..

I kind of look at it like retiring and then coming out of retirement every time they have a long break.

every time these senior citizens do a tour, consider it a gift and remember it might be the last! ;)

    well said...

  6. LosingIt, I think you have good ideas, but like mine they are unrealistic They won't do opening acts again, they can't perform for as long. They aren't stadium bands. I don't think Geddy would share his vocal duties with someone else, on Time Stand Still, Amee is only there for backup. But there's one I think that really stands out.

They would not want to give off two new songs unless there was an album in the making. All The World.'s A Stage and simillar warmup tours only had new songs as they were already being recorded as part of the new album they were recording. BU2B and Caravan were obviously another thing like the warmup tours as Ged clearly announces the Clockwork Angels album before one of the two kn the Cleveland DVD,

I would love to see the props come back, although I vaguely remember the rabbits being used for Leave That Thing Alone.

All this came out of comments that Geddy made back in the 80's when The Who was doing their Farewell Tour. Which wasn't the case obvisouly, cause they tour endlessly after that. Regardless, Geddy did say that "That's a nice way to go out!" When The Who was doing their Stadium tour in the 80's. Anyway, I understand that they aren't a stadium band but if they limit themselves to only a few nights (15) and play in centralized cities like New York, Raleigh, Atlanta, Kanas City, LA, Denver, Dallas, Miami, Seattle, Chicago, etc. I think they could sell out the place or at least have a good showing since they won't be appearing anwhere else. Yeah some people will get lucky and some will have to travel but Hey its an Event now. Additionally, by announcing that its their Farewell Tour it would let every fan know that If you want to see RUSH this is it and knowing RUSH they will keep their word and not tour any longer. They will sell more way more tickets this way! Why not Opening Acts? Geddy has already stated that they might be going this way again and having two Opening Acts will still give them enough time to play for 2.5 Hours. As for the guest vocalist idea, I put that in 'cuase honestly I think that the only way we'll hear a song like Hemispheres ever again. As for the strings, I think they enjoyed that way too much to not reuse them. Actually I think they might go bigger next time and tour with a full Orchestra. But thats me, and I can't stop thinkking big!

    :codger:

they have had trouble selling out large venues in big cities for one night, not sure they could fill 6,000 seat halls for multiple nights, plus with Geddy's need for a day off in between, they can't play five straight nights in one city so they would have to be there for like two weeks, not sure its really a viable idea....

maybe a special five night run at massey hall, but i can't see them doing multiple nights in atlanta or kansas city, etc...

  7. Wow, so sorry, but I don't think any of this will ever happen....

    they won't play stadiums.....

    they won't have opening acts....

they won't announce a farewell tour....

    they won't have strings again....

I think they will take their well deserved break and then get together and talk....they will either do one of the following....

    1. decide to tour on an R41 or R42 theme...

    2. write, record and produce a new album and tour off that

    3. do nothing and stay on hiatus...

I can't see rush ever announcing a farewell tour....its not their style....they tour, they rest, they regroup and decide what to do next...i suppose its possible that neil says i will do one more tour and that's it so let's make it a farewell for the fans but i don't see them putting themselves into a corner like that.....

  8. Wasn't too sure about CA, but the tour stop here in Sunrise fixed that real quick.

I have to echo nhlrush's request for a next album of "just songs".

Another Tour? Yes please, if they can summon the strength, just one more puhleeez?

I wasn't requesting a next album....just wondering if at this point they would go back to releasing an album and tour that is just a collection of songs rather than some other kind of themed concept album....

i would love new music, i think all rush fans look forward to new music....but at this stage of the game, any live performances they do, whatever kind of tour they do in the future is pure gravy...

the time is right for them to take a long break..

  9. Is everyone depressed here?

Kind of feels empty, doesn't it?

I'm feeling pretty empty about it...having been to the last five shows of the tour, I was just getting into a groove...

my wife and kids on the other hand, are thrilled, especially when i told my wife probably no rush shows for two years....She is very supportive of my rush trips, but would rather have me home....

I so much wanted Rush to announce another leg for september and october through California and the west....but knew it wasn't gonna happen...

I gotta say despite the wonderful shows, I think the guys are happy to have this tour behind them and take a break....they looked pretty road weary the final couple of shows....

  10. Agree with most others that, in spite of me being one of those who was not crazy about the setlist, the show was fun and they are still the one band that no matter how many times I've seen them and regardless of price, they deliver and are worth the price of admission. Funny, I can recall a few incidents of "obnoxious" patrons at other shows(at the Eagles, security had to kick out four drunk 20-somethings who made the mistake of spilling a beer on the man behind them-who happened to be a cop, at Simon and Garfunkel, who were playing at the venue owned by Disney, there was an obnxious noisy group, also of 20-somethings, above us in a suite. People complained to security but there was nothing they could do-the idiot hosting the suite was the son of a high ranking Disney executive who could have had the guard fired we think) but I am hard pressed to ever think of a time anyone ever acted up at a Rush show. Stay classy, Rush fans.

But, going forward, I am wondering where they will be booked in Los Angeles, assuming there is a forward. Their last three tours were at the Gibson Ampitheatre which is closing down to make room for Harry Potter World. That venue seats about 6,100+ but the shows were not sell outs(or at least tix were available up until just a few days before). The same was true for the second leg of the S&A tour where they played the 7,100 seat Nokia theatre and tickets for that were also available. The people who own Madison Square Garden are revamping the 17,000 seat Forum that was pretty much where Rush played in the 80's and 90's. So any Los Angelenos out there care to wonder where they go next? My hunch is if the next tour is a "Farewell Tour," the Forum makes sense.

I'm really not sure what your concerns are.....Rush played the staples center in 2002.....they can play there again....the southern california market is massive and they can draw 10,000 in staples.....the prices at gibson amp the past few tours have been really pricey....but then again, New York and LA prices are always gonna be higher than the smaller markets...

one night at staples is reasonable....they could also skip LA entirely and play the outdoor amp in Irvine and the one in Chula Vista...

  11. Alex and Geddy both came over to the riser and shook Paul Rudd's hand, and Neil got up from his kit and extended his hand out to shake Paul's hand as well...

Geddy not only thanked the string ensemble but he thanked Paul Rudd by name, which got a nice response....

Paul not only directed the string ensemble, when Geddy came over to jam, Paul pretended to be slappin da bass as done in I love You, Man...He also put his shirt over his head and a few other zany things while Ged was over there....John Arrowsmith was shooting pics like crazy so we'll see if any of them make the official photo page for this show...

Great show, lots of the Rush regulars there from all across the country, met four guys from Monterey, MEXICO, they flew from Monterey to Dallas to Kansas City, just for this show....very cool...

  12. Man, this album and tour are going to be VERY tough to follow up.

Agreed...Clockwork Angels is a true Rush masterpiece....

While I would very much welcome new music down the road, the fact that this was a true concept album, a full story, and brilliantly done leaves me wondering how they would follow this up, especially if its just a "regular" type album with 10 tracks that are just songs, like how Snakes & Arrows was....

And while you can never rule anything out, it would seem that the Clockwork Angels string ensemble is a one tour thing as well...i suppose they could do a full show with strings, but it fit just right with them doing just the CA material thru YYZ....I liked the fact that Rush was back to a three piece for the final songs...

  13. What song would you most like to hear or think would be best to open the show for the R40 tour? One song, entire catalog.

I'd really dig a debut album medley. Something like they did for R30 but keep it to just the 1974 Rush album that will 40 years old at that point. Hell, I'd settle for a 20 album all-medley show... get pieces of EVERY song from their catalog in one show... I'd like that. I know there are medley haters out there but I've always enjoyed getting a little sample of many tunes versus the entirety of a select few. How cool would a Rivendell/Tears/TaiShan mash-up be, LIVE?! Rock ON!!!

    MEDLEYS, MEDLEYS MEDLEYS.....

I AM WITH YOU.....GET IN AS MANY SONGS AS POSSIBLE, EVEN 10 SECONDS OF SOMETHING IS BETTER THAN NOTHING...

and keep the casual fans wondering what song they are playing, sorry, if you can't keep along with the changes, go back and listen to the catalog again...

can't tell you how many "fans" on this tour were heading to the bathrooms and beer during songs like Territories and Halo Effect...

  14. Nhl, you are a Rush snob. :laughing guy:

Are you so numb that a thrill still doesn't go through you when they play Tom Sawyer, or you watch them playing it on DVD? If so, you had better make an appointment with Dr. Sheldon Cooper and see what he can do for you.

    Good luck! ;)

    Lorraine,

you know what? you are right....

when it comes to rush, i am a snob, i admit it....

You are right, I do not get a thrill when I hear Tom Sawyer, I say, gee, this is five minutes of a show that could make room for something else...

but then again, I have heard it live in EVERY show I have ever been to since 1983....so for me, I would take EVERYDAY GLORY over Tom Sawyer any show anywhere....but that's just me, a rush snob....I know why they play it...for the fan who is just seeing the one show on this one night, I get it....

I understand when it comes to rush, I am this way....but just Rush, pretty regular considerate person otherwise...

    'Everyday Glory'!!!!!

I like your thinking, but 'Tom Sawyer' really does have a good energy at shows, and unfortunately there'd be only a very small audience for 'EG'. I'd seriously wet my pants in happiness if this happened, though!

'TS' is not my favourite song, but it is a very good song, and concert-goers really connect with it, and that makes it worthwhile to have. If I ever got a chance to make up my very own personal setlist, though... 'EG' would surely be replacing it! ;)

Mika, i picked EVERYDAY GLORY for you....

i never get tired of listening to it....it is one of my all time favorites....everything about it...

but in reality, i would take almost any song over Tom Sawyer at this point, just to be able to say i heard something i have never heard before...like Cut to the Chase....

I am really not putting down Tom Sawyer, its just my personal preference to hear something else....

the truth is I am thrilled to be on the road seeing rush right now....they can play whatever they want....just happy they are still up there doing their thing...

two more shows and then who knows? its gonna be sad walking out of the Sprint Center in Kansas City this Sunday....

  15. :Neil: Hey Dirk, have you heard the latest?

    :geddy: The latest what?

:Neil: The latest that's going on at TRF?

:Alex: Neil, what the hell you are doing snooping over at TRF? I thought you avoided that place.

:Neil: Never mind what I'm doing there. Do you want to hear what they're doing over there or what?

:geddy: Neil, quit the dramatics and just tell us.

:Neil: Our fans are rating themselves - you know - who's the fan-est fan, who's the least fan-est fan. Stuff like that.

    :Alex: Well, who's winning?

:Neil: Some dude in his fifties. Calls himself AFLRush, or is it KGBRush? No. That's right. think football. It's NFLRush.

    :geddy: And who's losing?

:Neil: One of your women Dirk.

    :geddy: :o

    :Alex: :o :o

this is really funny, but you know its nhlrush, right? and for the record i am 45....please don't put me in my fifties yet, i feel old enough and with the amount of small kids at rush concerts lately, i feel really really old....

i mean i have rush shirts older than most of the audience these days, and that's no joke, i do...

  16. By the way, how old were you when Tom Sawyer came out? I am not being sarcastic, but if you were a toddler, I can understand why the song doesn't mean much to you.

Never mind, I see you weren't a toddler as you are only a few years younger than me.

    See Dr. Sheldon anyway!

you know what's so funny about this whole tom sawyer thing.....my first memory of hearing rush.....spring 1981, 7th grade school picnic, someone had a boom box (remember those?) and i heard side one of moving pictures and my life was changed forever....

first song...yeah, the very tom sawyer, look, i like the song....who doesn't who likes rush? neil's drums are unreal, signature rush....

but in my snob world, tom sawyer, been there, done that.....anyone want to hear Tai Shan? alright, just kidding...

  17. Nhl, you are a Rush snob. :laughing guy:

  18. OMFG, so several of you are saying this person is a 'poser', because they are unaware Neil doesn't attend meet and greets? How could they possibly know that unless they hang out on forums like this? Let it go.

sorry to wreck your theory....but a good deal of time is spent in Beyond the Lighted Stage talking about this very subject.

  19. Not to rag on AC/DC, I like them too, but I still remember to this day an article I read in the 80's in a bass player magazine or something. They sat Geddy down and had him make comments on the bass guitar tracks to various songs from other bands. They played him an AC/DC track(don't remember which one) and he just ripped it. Don't remember the EXACT quote but it was something to the effect.............."I have no idea what that guy is thinking there.......no creativity whatsoever"........something like that. I found it funny then and still find it amusing.

while rush's music is very complex and AC/DC's music is a bit more simple, music should be judged on how it sounds....do you like what you are hearing, lots of people like early beatles or buddy holly and that music is very simple, but genius at the same time...

angus young was asked about if he cared that the band gets criticized that a lot of the music sounds the same....and that its very simple....he just smiled and said, "nope don't care."

the notes of AC/DC are simple at times, but nobody plays it the way angus does...

  20. I'm kind of put off by contests like this: how do I prove that I'm "the biggest Rush fan"? I'm not. No one is. The fact that I'm an active member of a forum dedicated to Rush (my only forum; and where I share in lots of photos of Geddy and his butt); that I know every word to every song, and my favourites include songs such as 'Entre Nous', 'How It Is', 'Faithless', and 'Everyday Glory'; that Rush is the reason I've picked up guitar and bass; that I've watched Rush's live concerts so many times I can turn to my (dis-interested) boyfriend and say, "watch this - Geddy makes a cute eyebrow wiggle here"; that I risked danger in order to go to one of their concerts out of town (my walk back to the hotel after the show resulted in being propositioned by random, drunk guys that followed me); that I've had nothing but Rush blasting on my ipod for the past year-and-a-half (except for a two-month period when I missed my Rush so much I had to go back to just them); that I have darn near every single live bootleg that's out there, and have favourite songs off quite a few of them; that I'm finding myself dressing like Geddy with wearing a Rush shirt over a longer-sleeved shirt; that I'm singing Rush songs when I'm all alone, and getting better at them; that my life has been enhanced by my love for Rush - they make me feel good. Period.

No, this is not enough to prove my validity as "the greatest fan", and I'm set up for disappointment to share all this in a contest and be rejected by someone's 'proof' of their fandom.

    Exactly.

A few years ago a friend scoffed at me because I said I am a diehard AC/DC fan, I pretty much bleed for that band. (Different band, but same story.)

She said "But you have only a few of their shirts and, you may have a bunch of dvd's and cd's, but that's it. You can't be such a huge fan."

You can't tell how big a fan someone is by what they say or what they own merchandise-wise.

I know the words to all AC/DC songs, have every album, *most* concert DVDs and a lot of shirts. I have countless books, would crawl on my hands and knees on broken glass for a mile to see them live. But there are millions of people like me, and though I am a diehard fan, I can't say i'm the biggest lol. I hate contests like these.

(Gah. I had 17 AC/DC shirts at one point- let's just say someone with sticky fingers stole my entire AC/DC/music/rock memorabilia collection. Fun. SO, yes, THAT is why I don't have as much AC/DC stuff lol. my friend turned bright red after I said that!)

I have a good AC/DC nugget for you....

i am a pretty good fan of ac/dc....not like rush, just always like the straight forward power rock/bluesy music....plus they are fun to play on guitar...

so one day i was going through my mp3 player and stumbled upon Gone Shootin from the Powerage album....i never really knew this song before (as said, a very casual fan of the band) but now its my favorite AC/DC song....i sometimes drive to work and listen to it over and over again, i learned it on guitar...

i love how these guys jam....

just wondering hobo73 where this song stacks up for you.....freakin love this song.....
