  1. I haven't missed a leg of a Rush tour since Counterparts back in '94 but am sitting this second leg out. High ticket prices, them not going anywhere near Boise as usual, and not changing the setlist at all make three strikes!
  2. QUOTE (micgtr71 @ Jan 17 2011, 06:27 PM) Still, I do not wish any changes to occur for this leg. You got your wish according to RIAB. I'm sure the complainers here (and I am one of them) are not surprised to hear that there will be no changes for the second leg of the Time Machine Tour. I am glad to hear this now so I don't need to bother getting a ticket.
  3. I think the Vapor Trails setlist is as close to perfection as they have come since the early '80s and I fear they won't get that close again. By-Tor and the Cygnus X-1 section was great and they had most of my favorite oldies as well. Just wish they would have given even half a damn about recording it properly, Rush in Rio is one of the worst live recordings ever, which is a shame since you can tell it was a great concert but the recording was poorly done.
  4. I saw the T4E tour at The Gorge back in '97 and it was spectacular. We only had lawn seats but I remember the sound being good and I always prefer outdoor venues when I can get them. My friends and I camped out for the evening and the fact that it was in the middle of nowhere didn't bother me since it was on the way back to Idaho from Seattle. The campground was a huge Rush party all night long so I wouldn't recommend it if you have small children or are just looking to sleep. I had a great time just wandering around with a few beers and eventually stumbled on a bongo drum session with people taking turns and when I got there a guy was singing the Fountain of Lamneth. Not something I ever expected to see but awesome regardless.
  5. I voted Hold Your Fire because that was the first Rush album I bought where I actively disliked several songs on it. It was especially disappointing coming after Power Windows, which I loved all the songs on.
  6. I agree that going solo can be fun, I went to Vancouver in 1997 by myself when my brother bailed on me and had a great time. I think I appreciated the music better since there was nobody around to distract me.
  7. QUOTE (RodrigoAltaf @ Aug 10 2010, 08:29 AM) Oh no...you mentioned a drum solo!!! Now I know there's a drum solo in the setlist...you just RUINED it for me!!! My deepest apologies, I will try to be more sensitive in the future
  8. I uploaded both songs of the encore today and will endeavor to put up the rest of the concert throughout the week. Encore #2 is better, I had to duck for security a bit in Encore #1.
  9. I have the rest of the show (except for 2 songs) but most of it is in SD instead of HD due to memory constraints but please let me know what you think and if I should upload more. And if you know how to rescue fileparts, please send me a PM as I have a 2 Gig filepart that includes Caravan and the Drum Solo that I can't figure out how to salvage.
  10. Went to see Ozzy in '91 but really wanted to see Anthrax opening. You can only imagine my rage (and most of the audience judging by the boos) when Winger came on instead. Never found out why this happened but I was pissed.
  11. I have to come down on the side of downtuning OK, altering vocal pitch not OK. Which saddens me since I really miss the old songs too, I wish they could just downtune more like for 2112, it sounded great to me live in '96.
  12. QUOTE (iluvgeddy05 @ Jun 24 2010, 11:42 AM) I stand the whole time and at 5'3, I wear these espradrille sandals that don't hurt my feet and make me a couple inches taller I will mention that to my wife, she is always angry at ending up behind tall people and she is 5'4".
  13. QUOTE (micgtr71 @ Jun 8 2010, 03:40 PM) I'm going to be completely honest and totally unpopular at the same time by stating that the best thing he could do concerning his solo is not to play one. Geddy and Alex are proficient enough to warrant solos and I am glad they do not take one. I see soloing like that as dull...it doesn't matter who it is. I know that Neil's solo is composed, but I still see it as a low in the show. Reminds me of the pickup line, "Want to come back to my place? I want to play a song for you on my drum." I'm glad that those who like it appreciate it. I'd rather see the time filled with a song. I agree with this but would make an exception if he plays Didacts and Narpets
  14. This would be a lot tougher call if Waters was doing the setlist of the 1977 tour (Animals/WYWH) instead of the Wall. I liked the Wall as a kid but on the rare instances I listen to it now, I end up skipping over half the album. There are some great songs but there is just too much filler and as other posters have said, it is very depressing as well. Add to that the Rush concert is 3 hours while the Wall even presuming they extend songs will probably only be about 1:40. So my vote goes to Rush!
  15. I would agree with those who say sneak in a camera but don't use the flash. Also try to be considerate of those around you and don't block their view holding up a camera for a while.
  16. Interesting to read all the different opinions here, I started listening to Rush back in '83 with the then-current albums Moving Pictures and Signals. One day I was stuck at a record store with $8 burning a hole in my pocket and was thumbing through Rush albums wondering which one I should get since there were so many and I had never heard any of them. I liked the cover of A Farewell to Kings and bought it, it blew my mind and I wasted no time getting the rest of the catalog. My favorites were 2112-AFTK-Hemispheres even though I was only about 6 years old when that started so I don't think it matters what was the current album when you first started listening to Rush. All the young people here seem to have good taste in going back and finding the older good stuff To finally get to the thread topic, the dead zone of Rush for me is HYF - Counterparts. There are a few good songs in that era but the hit/miss ratio (IMHO) is at its lowest here. For the record, I loved Vapor Trails and hate S&A.
  17. QUOTE (GrandDesigner @ May 25 2010, 05:19 AM) All those songs they've drilled into the ground over the years - The Big Money, Dreamline, Roll The Bones, Distant Early Warning, Subdivisions, Trees, Red Sector A, Force Ten, Show Don't Tell...THERE'S OTHER SONGS ON THOSE ALBUMS WE WANT TO HEAR TOO!!! I agree (well except maybe for the Trees). I have seen it live several times now but I could live with its omission if we get plenty of songs we haven't seen a million times before. Songs I really don't want to see: In the Mood anything from T4E except Totem anything from CP except Double Agent Closer to the Heart (hope it stays retired) anything from S&A (good luck I know)
  18. QUOTE (Don Quixote @ Apr 21 2010, 04:06 PM) What concerns me in the interview is this phrase: "we're rearranging it slightly" Now that worked well for Digital Man a couple of years ago but those two tunes have some great stuff in them that I'm not sure should be f-d with. I disagree, I like when they change stuff up a little bit. Doing Resist acoustically I thought was awesome and is exactly the kind of change up I would like to see them do more of. I am getting very excited for this tour and can't wait to see what other old songs are coming back.
  19. I am with those who think pre-sales are a scam, I last did a presale in 2002 for the Vapor Trails tour and ended up with terrible seats but I thought wow maybe everyone is doing the presale and that is all that is left so I took what they offered. I now know the truth and avoid these things like the plague. A couple of years ago my wife didn't take my advice and got Alanis Morrisette tickets the day they went on sale, at least she got us 7th row. I noticed the week of the concert you could get front row seats. I put my money where my mouth is and went to Rush in 2007 on the Snakes and Arrows tour in Salt Lake City with no ticket at all with a friend and we just chose from the scalper selection. Got Front row 200 level seats for $5 above face value and actually got a selection to choose from, unlike ticket buying over the internet with its take it or leave it no real choice selection. I guess the point of my diatribe is don't worry about the pre-sales at all. Does anyone happen to know how many Rush shows actually sold out on the last tour.
  20. Why they never played the Weapon more is beyond me, that song absolutely rocked on the GUP tour video. If they wanted to bring it back this tour, I would be in heaven
  21. I'm glad they're still playing the USANA in Salt Lake City as it is a great outdoor place for a show, have seen them the last two tours there. I'm surprised Portland got left out on this tour but Salt Lake is an hour closer to drive to than Portland anyway from here in Boise, where I'm sure they won't be playing anytime soon.
