  1. QUOTE (Tombstone Mountain @ Jul 20 2012, 06:48 PM) QUOTE (condemned2bfree @ Jul 20 2012, 01:26 AM) As some may know here alchemy and its history are of interest to me. Its very clear that Clockwork angels has alchemy as its theme by way of the glyph's and themes. Its my interpretation that the watchmaker has gained the 'philosophers stone'. In the garden its said 'the watchmaker has time up his sleeve' suggesting he has gained immortality,as for mere mortals 'hours slip away' The philosophers stone in real alchemy history, offered the elixir of life, immortality. Mortal man attaining godhood if you will...for those who could crack it. It involved mixing base metals to form precious metals such as gold. There may be gold on the C.A. clock if memory serves. There have been many throughout history who tried to find the philosophers stone, john dee u.k. in 16th bohemia is one for example. Did the watchmaker/pedlar uncover that which many have sought through the ages - Mortal man attaining godhood over mere mortals through alchemy, finding the holy grail 'the philosophers stone? imo C.A. has a wealth of depth in the story line....its incredible, an album to keep returning to for sure. edit; here's john dees glyph http://img99.imageshack.us/img99/1971/deehieroglyph.gif Uploaded with ImageShack.us Sir...are you an alchemically balanced apothocarian??? Lots of great things to ponder in this post. thanks...gonna have roll this one around a bit!

Funny coincidence last month or so i've been interested in alchemy in particular john dee and kerry in europe 16th century...king of bohemia. Look at dees glyph; http://img189.imageshack.us/img189/1971/deehieroglyph.gif The dawn of a great age. is the philosophers stone the hidden driving force in ca. The watchmaker has time up his sleeve, master alchemist who has gained the elixir of life? HHmmmmmm... it's a thought. http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd103/laserspray/internet%20stuff/smilies/diapo1850f8b72528112838e9ae02a3a3ed.gif The symbol at 3:00 is Mercury. Looks like Mercury to me And, yes, Neil specifically said that the Pedlar IS The Watchmaker. Dees glyph does look like an elaboration on mercury. dee was definately the 'messenger' as regards his work with queen Elizabeth. Dee was said to communicate messages from other worlds, mainly of future events.

The philosophers stone is said to offer the elixir of life through alchemy, eternity that the watchmaker has gained. Mortal man attaining godhood if you will as depicted as the pedlar, he is a man. Its been a quest throughout the ages, most interestingly for me, in and around 16th century.

  6. QUOTE (Tombstone Mountain @ Jul 15 2012, 11:58 PM) QUOTE (Presto-digitation @ Jul 15 2012, 04:40 PM) If Clockwork Angels somehow came out in '83 between Signals and GUP, it would be regarded as a classic...and would be much loved, I suspect. I can't think of a single reason it wouldn't be. You can't say that about every Rush album. Excellent analogy!!!
  7. Progressive Procol harum Drummer B.J. Wilson, was sought after by led zeppelin.
  8. QUOTE (USB Connector @ Jul 16 2012, 01:23 AM) I can see CA being regarded as a classic. The songs are most certainly in the quality of early-mid 80s Rush. Then again, with all the mediocre (overall) to good albums that they've been releasing for some time, I can easily see this as being overlooked. I know this is off topic but I must know. Do hoverboards exist in the future? yes manufactured by a company M.J. Fox industries.

QUOTE (snowdogged @ Jul 16 2012, 01:43 AM) QUOTE (condemned2bfree @ Jul 15 2012, 12:49 PM) Clockwork angels is a classic album + stands test of time. get out your 3d time machine glasses, come travel fellow rushians. Just donned my 3d glasses circa 1984 and travelled to 2033, to uncover the question everybody wants to know. Is Clockwork Angels a true classic standing the test of time, ranking as one of the great rush albums... up there with the best - m.p. 2112 pow signals??? It can be catagorically confirmed that Clockwork angels is indeed, one of rush's greatest albums ever made...at least that's what the majority of fans and music critics say. geddy alex and neil are all well. Alex has ditched his curiosity with wine and opened a chain of hair treatment salons -'hair today'. Alex was obsessed with hair growth, fully funding a hair growth research foundation. Alex has a bouffant the size of Milwaukee. Geddy is a fully fledged wine mogul, living in a mountain range somewhere in europe. Its often said an aging rocker fitting his description, is seen around the villages of moravia, talking of the good old days...'touring the world and elsewhere'. Neil hosts a hugely succesful cookery t.v. series; 'a matter of taste' The advent of recent culture exposure via rush films+ documentaries etc (around 2012), polorized neils stance on notoriety. Propelling him to become a socialite fiend. You cannot get away from billboards newstands and t.v. adverts, with out seeing his jowling fizzog. In a cruel twist of fate, Tom hanks became neil pearts security double, work being scarce, due to a waning film career. rush stopped touring in 2018, but it was the album in between C.A. and their retirement that got everyone talking. Source? the very same that establishes M.p. as a classic....only in 2033!

The next studio effort with booujzhe at the helm will be even better than this one. The third time's a charm!!!! if there is another album, i don't think they're going with nick r. they will definitely be going with someone else. yes how do you know have you time travelled? Rush always ones for progress, got fed up with all the production complaints and threw down the mixing gauntlet to the fans. 'you do it better' was the comp slogan A competition was held to mix a test song, the winner under a watchful eye,was allowed to mix + master the entire album. The winner was chosen by the fans themselves. Many accused the winner, to be none other than terry brown in disguise...regardless, the fans were elated with the results!

For me alex's style of playing contributes to the overall sound, i mean its not as linear as the 80's - lots of chords. anyhoo im a bit of an audiophile, but not to the extent where my enjoyment is marred by slight issues here, ca remains fantastic ....... a really amazing record. Im with lennon on this one; a great album remains so, even if its recorded on a tape recorder. A polarizing view, but a perception that rings true for me. Yeah my complaints aren't large, it's more a nitpicking thing. It's not a bad sounding album in terms of production, it's just not as clean and organic as I'd like it to be. yep i would of liked the guitars to be less dense, i mean i love heavy guitars...metal even;) but they seem hot like you describe, maybe due to mixing/production inclinations, as opposed to the original signal intent.

  14. 9 for me. Its a very convincing consistent body of work -great melodies combined with great playing. Cast down the doubters.

  16. QUOTE (treeduck @ Jun 29 2012, 09:35 AM) Not for fans of Tai Shan though... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oBZY_loemUw great find. 'very busy in the shower' leaves a lot to the imagination What a nice fellow.
  17. Ged does a lot for charity. Animal adoption is close to his heart. From time to time he hosts a couple of gerbils in his mouth, it a well know secret that this also aids, drying up copious amounts of saliva...an infliction of the aged..
  18. QUOTE (HowItIs @ Jun 20 2012, 10:34 AM) It's one of my favorites, too. I love the advice - my Hubby and I did that long ago - walk away from people like that. Makes life so much easier. I also love the paraphrase of Winston Churchill "If you are going through hell, keep going." yep, i noticed the churchill bit too.
  19. QUOTE (Pags @ Jun 24 2012, 02:52 AM) To me, the album gets stronger and stronger the more I listen to it and become familiar with the intricacies of the songs. But nothing tests music more than when I'm on my riding mower with my earbuds cranked to full. CA just continues to take me to another place. I got 'that' feeling on just about every song. Each one has it's own hook that grabs me and doesn't let go. It's a set of songs that I don't need to skip anything from beginning to end. Sun... beer in right hand... steering with the left... shades... heat... the rumble and the sound of the tractor... and Clockwork Angels rockin' my ass. So I'm happy to report, Clockwork Angles passes the lawn mower test. Good job, guys.
