  1. I played tempest a lot. We learned the trick to racking up free credits and would spend the day at Game World playing and selling our credits so we could play other games. Of course the owner didn't take too kindly to that. :)
  2. Pick up a guitar. Sit with it. Play it. Stand with it strapped on. Play it. Is there anything uncomfortable about it? Is it poking you in ribs, digging into your forearm? Are the upper frets easy to reach? In short, does it "feel" good? Don't get bogged down in Fender v. Gibson or other nonesense. Get "your" guitar. All are going to have similar features. Get the one that is comfortable and has a sound you dig.

  3. So it turns out, that the guitar can be written in the bass and treble clef, so that's what I found out from my guitar teacher

Exactly what I was going to say. Bass Clef doesn't equal Bass guitar. There are notes played on the bass that would be properly written on the treble clef.

I learned to play guitar with one of those books. They are only good for the basic chords of the song as I recall. No solos or very few, and not even close to the proper chord voicings Alex uses.

  4. Hey everybody, I hope you don't mind if I post this question here - it seems relevant. I posted the same question in the rank 2112 thread, but I'm not sure anyone will answer it there. It has to do with a distortion effect Lifeson gets near the end of 2112; here's the question I asked:

Lifeson's lead guitar near the end of 2112 sounds quite strange to me, and I have always had a suspicion that it might be an over-driven or distorted acoustic guitar. I say this because when I was younger and didn't really have money for gear, I used to plug my acoustic into this tiny little amp and crank it up to 10, which would produce a shitty sounding distortion. I don't mean to suggest that Lifeson's tone is "shitty," but it really does remind me of the sound I used to get.

It always sounded to me like he had the wah set full open and possibly some EQing in post.

  5. The fact that people are still talking abut this is awesome....

Change of tactic though, Rush cover band made of musicians from the forum. Record your parts, send em to someone's Dropbox when you're done with it, they then mix it all together and publish it to us when they're done. Is that any better?

Like Jarg siad it's been done on here a few times. Here's some I worked on with others here:

  6. Well, not really but I found this interesting:

So I searched out the images by the photographer from the original cover and put this together in photoshop.

I think the analysis in the link above is wrong concerning the picture with with buildings on the right that were used for the Lee, Peart, and Lifeson signs. He says it, "...was taken from down the street and to the left looking back towards the granite markers."

I believe it was taken from the same location as the bath house photo; the photographer is just turned more to his right and the Pleasure Pier is visible, which is those very buildings used for the boys' names.

I know, I know, I have waaaay too much time on my hands. :codger:
