  1. QUOTE (GrandDesigner @ Nov 13 2009, 04:28 PM)It boggles my mind that mere humans could create something as magnificent as The Gates Of Delirium. Probably the best prog "epic" ever made. I love every version of TGOD, including the Yesshows and Symphonic version. I still can't figure out how they ever pulled off TGOD live with an orchestra. Mostly thanks to Alan, I think.
  2. QUOTE (Earthshine @ Jul 21 2009, 02:47 AM)Benoit is great. Jon Anderson kept the band waiting for years. I am glad he is doing better but Jon is not Yes! Dunno... Founding member, voice of the band for 40 years (except for Drama), author of 99% of their lyrics... I've stuck with Yes over the years through many lineup changes, but not this time. I passed on prime tickets for this tour, despite wanting to see Asia, because I couldn't stand the thought of someone else singing Close to the Edge, And You and I, etc.
  3. QUOTE (Rush Cocky @ Jul 24 2009, 03:08 PM)Saw them live on VH1 Classic. Phill Collins looked like he belonged in a retirement home. The band sounded awful to me. Was that the "Rock Honors" show? I agree, that wasn't their best. But I saw them live on Palladium HD and they looked/sounded amazing! They did a SWEET medley of In the Cage/Cinema Show/Dukes Travels/Afterglow.
  4. QUOTE (Xanadu93 @ Jul 24 2009, 02:50 PM) because I'm getting into Genesis. I've got Selling England By The Pound, A Trick Of The Tail, and Duke as well as a digital 45 of "In Too Deep". I feel like buying more Genesis as soon as I'm able to, and I think I'm going to go with Abacab next. Don't think I've really talked about Genesis that much here so I figured some Genesis fans wouldn't mind discussing which record I should buy next. You don't have Nursery Cryme, Foxtrot, or Lamb Lies Down? I love Collins-era Genesis, but these Gabriel-era albums are must-haves. (You could just spring for Box Set 3, though I don't have it yet and have heard mixed reviews of the remastering.)
  5. I liked all the prequels when they first came out, but *jeez* Phantom Menace has really not aged well. My main problem with Menace is that large parts of it come across as Saturday-morning cartoonish, because of the digital characters and the way they speak: Jar Jar (obviously), the other Gungans, the Nemoidians, the junk dealer on Tatooine, etc. To me, all these chartacters are so over-the-top in the way they look and speak, they come across as Hanna-Barbera cartoon characters, rather then "real" SW characters like Chewie and ESB Yoda. Seems like whenever Menace is just about to get rolling, some annoying digital character with another sing-songy voice comes in and derails the momentum. But I liked the prequels a lot more than most, and think Lucas really redeemed the prequels with Sith. For me, Sith almost edges out Jedi if I were to rank the films, and that's saying a lot. If Lucas had started the prequels with a film like Sith and built from there, he probably could have met those insanely high expectations. New Hope Empire Jedi Sith Clones Menace (dead last by a mile)
  6. I love COS and Necromancer, but don't love the narration. Neil's voice sounds weird when slowed down like that. But it's not just the narration, it's the song structure of Necromancer. The narration just serves to emphasize how the song keeps starting and stopping. They'll be jamming along in one section, then everything S-T-O-P-S... And there's a pause... And then the narration for the next section comes in. And then the sequence repeats. Of course, this was one of Rush's first attempts at a long-form song. Necromancer has some really cool riffs and sections, and I'd love to hear what they could have done with this same material around the time of 2112 or AFTK. I always thought the fast 12/8 riff would be a cool way to start Necromancer, before the first slow section, although that would make it sound a lot like Heart of the Sunrise. Someone mentioned the Yes influence?
  7. This THREAD really drags! I need to take my ADHD meds and listen to my "improved" edit of Hemispheres: Hemispheres (2:16) Circumstances (1:06) The Trees (1:02) La Villa Strangiato (1:25)
  8. QUOTE (streak85 @ May 30 2008, 01:59 PM)QUOTE (WCFIELDS @ May 30 2008, 01:15 PM) I'll wait and rent it, I think.......... It was quite above decent on the big screen Yeah, I think it's definitely worth seeing on the big screen. Especially for the chase and alien/temple sequences at the end.
  9. QUOTE (Presto-digitation @ May 30 2008, 08:37 AM)Phantom Menace was infinitely more enjoyable and better quality. You've got to be kidding, right? Have you WATCHED Phantom Menace recently? I thought it was okay when it came out, but when watching the DVD before episodes two and three I was struck by how disappointing Menace is compared to all other SW films. It almost doesn't seem like a "real" Star Wars film; it's more like one of those made-for-TV Ewok movies. Yes, the duel at the end, the pod race, and the soundtrack are great, but so much of Menace is almost cringe-inducing. I do like Clones and especially Sith, but I can barely stand to watch Menace. For me, Crystal Skull fits right in with all the other Indy films. But Phantom Menace REALLY pales in comparison to the other Star Wars films.
  10. Wow, I'm glad I saw Crystal Skull before reading this thread. I thought it was a lot of fun. Sure, it's no Citizen Kane but I think it's about as good of a new Indy movie as I could have hoped for (realistically). It was certainly no stinker like Phantom Menace. I definitely enjoyed it more than Temple of Doom and maybe even Holy Grail (though it's been a while since I've seen HG). I don't really understand the big problem with the alien angle. We knew they wanted to go in a new direction, and they've already done the metaphysical/spiritual angle in two previous films. Where else would you expect them to go? Would a strictly realistic/archeological Indy film have worked, or even been consistent with the series? Anyway, I'd give Crystal Skull 4 out of 5 stars.
  11. QUOTE (rushfr:CP @ May 15 2008, 01:49 PM)QUOTE (Kroy Wen @ May 15 2008, 11:04:46 AM) When you engage a person (a stranger in these instances) you are giving them a response. This response, from a "normal Joe" is called common courtesy, but when it comes from a celebrity/recognizable person, it is often mis-interpreted as an invitation for further engagement (which is exactly how the person in the initial story took it, when it was only intended as common courtesy). So you (as a celebrity/recognizable person) are faced with a choice EVERY TIME someone shouts out your name as if they know you personally...ignore them and hope they go away (which they usually do if you ignore them) or try (yet again) to be nice and normal and courteous and run the risk (the very likely risk) that they will take that as a green light for further conversation/engagement. All those who keep saying all Neil needs to do is say "Hi," please reread this quote.

    Fly By Night

I would love to hear an ACOUSTIC version of FBN. I bet Geddy could pull off the vocals if they tuned the guitars down a half or full step.
  13. QUOTE (GeminiRising79 @ Feb 27 2008, 06:02 PM)Alex: So fat that he's changed the shape of his face...man, this guy used to be so angelic looking, now he looks like an angry redneck country-music singer. Neil: Ageing quite badly in the face, plus a real piss-poor attitude Ged: He's holding his age pretty well but never was quite the looker. GeminiRising, I think you would still jump at the chance to do any one of them. Gemini isn't the only thing Rising when you look at the back cover of 2112. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v337/makalu/toss-off_smiley.gif
  14. QUOTE (GeminiRising79 @ Apr 2 2008, 06:28 PM)For the record, I am not gay nor do I have any homoerotic fantasies. http://www.polichicksonline.com/apg_craig_bathroom2_071004_ms_AP.jpg

  16. QUOTE (GeddysMullet @ Aug 14 2007, 10:43 AM)I think it's good when songs are open to interpretation. My favourite part of the Snakes And Arrows documentary is when Geddy talks about how sometimes to him a song is about something that is totally different from what it's about to Neil, and how that's okay with both of them. That, too, I think, is part of the magic. It's funny how people can take different meanings from a song. For me, "Freewill" is a very straightforward and even blatant expression of Neil's agnostic/atheistic beliefs. But a good friend of mine in high school (who was very religous) was convinced that "Freewill" has the opposite meaning. For him, when Neil says "you can choose a ready guide in some celestial voice" he's actually encouraging you to do this, as in "You CAN choose to believe in God! That would be a great choice for you! Go for it!" This was an early lesson for me on how much a person's views and beliefs can shape the way they view the world around them.
  17. QUOTE (Cavorticus @ Jul 23 2007, 05:34 PM)You all can suck it. Knee-jerk defending of a band based on a simple question just shows your jerkiness. Since it will be my last Rush show ever, you don't need to bother to reply. I won't be back. Good riddance. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v337/makalu/toss-off_smiley.gif
  18. QUOTE (Cavorticus @ Jul 23 2007, 11:26 AM)I was working backstage on Saturday (7/21/07) and after the show ended, Neil Peart actually sprinted from the stadium. Not ran; sprinted. What the heck is up with that? A. Diarrhea B. Had to pee C. Family emergency D. Total dick Neil probably saw you watching him and was afraid you would approach him and: 1. Tell him that you worship him as a god 2. Awkwardly try to console him on the loss of his wife and daughter 3. Ask him to stop using MKULTRA mind control rays to influence your behavior 4. Ask him for a date 5. All of the above Seriously, the band tries to get of the venue as quickly as possible after the show. In most cities, I think they even have a police escort waiting to get them through the traffic congestion. Neil in particular gets to the bus first, for whatever reason. You can see this on Rush In Rio. No reason to call him a "total dick."
  19. QUOTE (softfilter @ Jul 16 2007, 01:17 PM)Btw, I'm curious about the "original" British version and probably check it out on BBC America. Yes, do check out the UK Office if you haven't seen it. The US Office is pretty good, but the UK Office was a classic, right up there with Fawlty Towers, Monty Python, and The Young Ones. The UK version is funnier, racier (lots of sex talk, surprisingly), and is also a much darker comedy. The characters on the UK Office all have more depth than their US counterparts, especially the boss David Brent played by Ricky Gervais. Gervais' Brent is a hilarious but tragic figure who goes through an amazing story arc through the series. David Brent is a classic character, right up there with Basil Fawlty, whereas the US boss is pretty bland and one-dimensional in comparison (but still funny). By the way, if you check out the UK Office on DVD, the outtakes and extras are HILARIOUS. Ricky Gervais had a habit of trying to crack up Martin Harrison (Tim) during their scenes, and it's hilarious to watch.
  20. QUOTE (EveryNerveAware @ Jul 12 2007, 10:32 AM)Thanks for detailing the picture guidelines in this forum. Although "tasteful" is a relative term, I get the point. To me this animation wasn't "distasteful", but others may have a different opinion. Again, I apologize to anyone I might have offended. I have no idea who this is, perhaps she is in movies or on TV... just thought she belonged in a topic titled "hottest women!" The girl in the gif causing all the fuss is Keeley Hazell. I posted her in the "That's it" thread. Sorry if anyone found the gif offensive. No nips in sight, but I guess maybe it's borderline PG13/R? Keeley is one of the "Page Three girls" from the UK. They run topless pictures of large-boobed girls every day on Page Three of the UK newspaper The Sun. Jeez, you sure couldn't get away with that here in the uptight USA. I think the Page Three girls have to be natural like Keeley (no implants). There are a whole bunch of these big-boobed UK girls that pose for Page Three and other UK men's magazines (Loaded, Nuts). Some other favorites are Lucy Pinder, Michelle Marsh, and Sophie Howard. But Keeley is probably the most popular and definitely my favorite. The gif in question is taken from a 20-minute DVD Keeley did for Loaded magazine. You can find the video clips with a bit of searching, and it's well worth tracking down.
  21. QUOTE (Cygnus @ Jul 13 2007, 08:21 AM) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v703/RushForum/850bikini3.jpg Very nice. More from this shoot, please.
  22. QUOTE (JohnnyBlaze @ Jul 12 2007, 08:16 AM) 24 pages deep in fish and fems, I'd say we're pretty safe We thought we were safe in the "That's it" thread. Apparently not...
  23. QUOTE (RushRevisited @ Jun 9 2007, 12:58 AM) http://www.byregion.net/images/members/SOLARIS_1.jpg Is this the Fly By Night owl and the head from Grace Under Pressure in her book? And the pyramid from Caress of Steel. The head looks like the Talosians on Star Trek. http://www.scifilm.org/tv/tvgraphics/st-menagerie.jpg
  24. Wow, what a complete nutcase. It was funny at first, in a sick kind of way, until she starts talking about Neil's wife and daughter being victims of this MKULTRA mind-control crap. Looks like she's mostly trying to get some publicity for her "book." I hope Neil and Michael Mosbach (Rush's security manager) sue her for libel. EDIT: Holy crap, her book is actually available on Amazon.com! http://www.amazon.com/Transmutation-Throug...n/dp/1414023758 Anyone care to give her a nice Customer Review?
