  1. It's an ok solo.....definately not up there with any of the classics. Not a huge fan of the guitar tone on this solo. It doesn't come through very clear, and is buried in too many effects...
  2. I haven't noticed hardly any "buzz" here either....
  3. QUOTE (Rick N. Backer @ Aug 3 2012, 08:00 PM) QUOTE (WCFIELDS @ Aug 3 2012, 09:45 PM) AFD is one of the best hard rock albums ever made.....I like about half of the material from the Illusion albums. That's about it..... You could, and I would, argue its the best debut album ever. When they got it going, they were awesome. Even on the mostly forgettable The Spaghetti Incident? they do a smoking cover of Nazareth's Hair of the Dog. Agree....for me, this one and Van Halen's are the best debuts....followed by Living Colour's Vivid....
  4. QUOTE (J2112YYZ @ Aug 3 2012, 05:52 AM) The only reason I ever heard of them is because their singer died in a car accident last year. I believe the band is done now. Yes, unfortunately they are....just picked up their latest album....and man is it good...

  6. Anyone in to these guys? An awesome doom/black metal band from Windsor, Ontario.....Type O Negative / Paradise Lost ish.......great stuff!!
  7. QUOTE (trenken @ Aug 2 2012, 06:37 AM) QUOTE (eshine @ Aug 2 2012, 02:50 AM) It is succinct. The guy sounds like a Rush fan but not a fanboy. His comments are right on the mark. QUOTE Geddy Lee's bass is mixed further up-front than it has been in some time -- which makes his mind-blowing chops resound: there are amazing pizzicatos interspersed in driving hard rock fills and edgy, off-kilter funk riffs. His voice is more nuanced and more emotionally expressive. QUOTE Alex Lifeson's acoustic guitars have an established place here, but his electric axes roar over them throughout. QUOTE Peart's drumming is the catalyst: his technical mastery makes his playing sound purely instinctive. CA is full of dynamic surprises I've read all the reviews of this album, but this one seemed so immediate to me - and unbiased. It hit all the right buttons for me. So yeah, this reviewer IS a fanboy, like you.
  8. Last night's episode was pretty disappointing....
  9. QUOTE (Cyclonus X-1 @ Jul 29 2012, 05:45 PM) I love the whole song, but my favorite part is Bacchus Plateau. It's remarkably catchy, and the lyrics are great. I'm guessing that No One at the Bridge will garner the most votes. Ironically, that's the part that does the least for me.
  10. QUOTE (jwoods89 @ Jul 29 2012, 10:15 AM) QUOTE (Pound of Obscure @ Jul 29 2012, 08:18 AM) QUOTE (jwoods89 @ Jul 29 2012, 01:49 AM) I don't have my copy of Clockwork Angels yet, it's still in the mail, but is it brickwalled? yes. I just typed in on Google, "Is Clockwork Angels brickwalled?" and a lot of people seem to think it isn't... yes it is. Go to the Hoffman forums....they'll explain.
  11. QUOTE (JohnnyBlaze @ Jul 29 2012, 01:15 AM) QUOTE (LeaveMyThingAlone @ Jul 29 2012, 03:53 PM) It's always a classic. As phenomenal as Caravan is, it isn't that yet. If it's not Spirit, I will guess either Tom Sawyer or Limelight. Subdivisions not impactful enough This is the reason why I guessed in other threads that the opener will be Free Will. Tom Sawyer, Spirit, and Limelight are as big as you can get as openers [and are all GREAT openers] but they've all been done. FW is just as classic, is almost( if not just as big) as those 3, and hasn't been done. I agree with your Subdivisions thought. I doubt Freewill.....he can't sing those high parts anymore, and opening with that song would make it more difficult for him.
  12. QUOTE (Union 5-3992 @ Jul 25 2012, 03:28 PM) QUOTE (iluvgeddy05 @ Jul 25 2012, 12:55 PM) can we stop these now? Yes please. Or at least warn us. I think this is as bad as the "Clockwork ANGLES News!". I'm tired of his trolling. This. These types of threads are stupid.....hardly funny.
  13. QUOTE (Xanadoood @ Jul 14 2012, 05:26 PM) QUOTE (jnoble @ Jul 14 2012, 06:22 PM) QUOTE (Ancient Ways @ Jul 11 2012, 09:46 PM) It would be interesting to hear a classic older album that is generally considered to sound good remixed/mastered to sound brickwalled to give everyone a solid comparison and get the pros to wake up. I'm imagining two of the best produced rock albums in history, Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band and GnR's Appetite For Destruction and how completly shitty they'd sound with the modern brickwalled/compressed to hell sound. It'd be like painting a mustache on the Mona Lisa before setting it on fire. Appetite for Destruction? Are you serious? How bout Dark Side of the Moon and Aja by Steely Dan? Appetite for Destruction? The production on AFD is great, so yes he is serious.
  14. QUOTE (substancewithoutstyle @ Jul 28 2012, 11:55 PM) QUOTE (WCFIELDS @ Jul 29 2012, 12:53 AM)I'm gonna guess that Caravan opens the show.... They did that on the last tour. We don't need to hear it again. Believe me, I don't want to hear it at all....just a guess...
  15. I'm gonna guess that Caravan opens the show....
  16. While I like the 70's better, the 80's had some great stuff. Wish they come up with songs half as good nowadays.....
