  1. Of course, the lack of clothing on Dr. Manhattan serves to show his increasing sense of detachment from humanity and its trappings, and I get that, but I will say that you don't see anywhere near as much of the blue member in the book at you do in the movie. Little too much, too often, to the point of being distracting. I read one review that said it would never look at the Blue Man Group the same way again.
  2. I have mixed feelings about the ending, but at least it was an ending; so many shows just keep you hanging on until they are canceled, then no story line is tied up. It ended, and I think it ended while the quality was still high. And I must confess that I got a tear in my eye several times: spoiler! particularly when the fleet flew off into the sun with the original BSG theme from 1979 played beautifully. My only real complaint is the lack of a concrete answer to all of the mysteries surrounding Starbuck; but any answer they provided probably would have been unsatisfying, so maybe it's best left to our imagination anyway.
  3. I am seriously considering the kanizsa triangle from counterparts. So much so that I had my daughter do it in sharpie on my arm so I could live with it for several days to see how it feels before committing permanently.
  4. Anybody else remember New Zoo Revue, with Doug, a hippo, an owl, a frog, and (the reason I remember it) super-hot Emmy Jo, who usually sported a miniskirt? I loved Shazam and Isis (Joanna Cameron was also super-hot). My early 70s memories revolve around Sesame Street (super-hot Maria) and Mr. Rogers (moderately hot Lady Aberlin). And there was some show called Bugaboos with little people with wings, one of which was a cute girl. I'm starting to detect a pattern in the shows I remember most fondly.
  5. The buzz is uniformly bad about this movie. Too bad, because it is an interesting story. I'm afraid Tom Cruise has turned me off so that I find it hard to want to go see it.
  6. A bike is like any tool; there is risk involved that can be minimized (but not eliminated) with proper training and responsible use. Before getting a bike, please carefully consider what type of riding you will be doing and be honest with yourself about your experience level. Then choose accordingly. Neil's bike is fantastic for long distance and varied surface but not the best choice for a daily commuter. A sport bike is quick and agile fun, but the riding position can be tiring on longer rides. A cruiser is comfy and has bling factor, but doesn't handle as nimbly as a sportier ride. Also consider dealer locations, cost of routine maintenance, etc to see what one really costs long term. I haven't even touched on chain vs shaft vs belt drive, spokes vs cast wheels...this is a passion of mine as you can see! So many different styles of bikes, in so many different price ranges! A bike is a significant investment; choose carefully so you will be pleased!
  7. Deathrace does indeed look like it will suck. How did they get Joan Allen, a well respected actress, to be in that? And didn't the Transporter movies get Jason Statham enough credit/money so that he could say no if he wanted to? My least favorite movie of all time is American Beauty. My wife and I saw it after all the hype and just could not believe how much we hated it.
  8. VT for me. I like SnA a great deal, but for me the lyrics on VT make the difference. Much of SnA depresses me. The lyrics on VT "feel" better to me. Of course, this is totally subjective.
  9. Literate, intelligent band members Music and lyrics that are challenging, thought-provoking, and fun
  10. Fridge, I would have agreed with you right up until SnA. This is the first album that I had trouble getting my head around a line or two.
  11. What are "the most beautiful words I could ever say?" I feel dumb for having to ask, but I simply don't get that line.
  12. I just discovered this thread and have enjoyed it very much. I have found your reviews insightful and thought-provoking, feeling validated when our opinions matched and intrigued when they differed. It's been refreshing to see the catalog with new eyes. I feel as though I have lost my objectivity on the subject of Rush, but it's difficult to be objective about something you love! You know, like thinking the woman you love is the most beautiful in all the world. I look forward to your takes on Vapor Trails, Feedback, and Snakes and Arrows. Thanks for sharing all this with us. Your chosen profession suits you; I hope it goes well!
  13. Yep, I like them. I thought Faith, Hope, Love was a little uneven, with some great stuff and some not so great. I very much liked that fourth eponymous release, although that's the one critics called "uneven" and "unfocused". But what do critics know? Gretchen Goes to Nebraska is really good. I should get Dogman but I've never gotten around to it.
  14. After doing some reading in this thread, I finally purchased my first DT cd, Scenes from a Memory. It took me some getting used to, but I have really enjoyed it. My only problem is that the end depresses me. I'll get Images and Words next when I scratch up the cash.
  15. It's hard to pick one; I really liked the Grace Under Pressure black no sleeve shirt with the p/g in red on the front that GLOWED in the DARK! The black Signals tshirt was another favorite, but my all time fav is the Moving Pictures shirt from my very first concert. I left it home when I went off to college, and came home to find that my mother had "cleaned" while I was gone. RIP, MP shirt.
