  1. Geddy's voice "is what it is". Yeah, he struggles with certain songs. So does practically every other rock singer in his age range. On the last tour Genesis played every song in a different key so that Phil could sing them, and frankly, it sounded like crap to me. The tunes lost all of their energy. Other singers like Rod Stewart do the same thing. Unless someone is a trained singer, there's a good chance that, by the time they reach their late 50's, the voice will not be there the way it was. Personally, I still think Rush's live show is awesome, and I'm glad that I still get to go see them at all. This band could have easily been "done" 15 years ago. If you don't like the way Geddy sings these days. Fair enough. Just don't listen. The old records and videos are always there for you. As for me, I'm going to continue to enjoy my favorite band as long as I can.
  2. That's what I was thinking. If the show if half as good as last year, I'll be happy! Plus, now my wife gets to see the show.
  3. I feel the same way, but I got 3rd row right in front of Geddy. I've never had tickets like that before so I said "WTF" and went for it. You only live once!
  4. Well, I don't like the way Geddy is tying his shoes lately. If you look at pictures from the 70's, he had a much tighter knot. Some of you people REALLY need to lighten up ...............
  5. I was disgusted when I read this today, but the more I think about it, the more I'm warming up to the idea. Like others have said, as long as they don't overdo it. It will obviously sound great on the new stuff for sure, and could make for some interesting possibilities for for some older stuff. Let's face it, they were going to have strings on this tour either "triggered" or live. I'm officially "back from the ledge" ....
  6. A gift? I paid 10 bucks for mine!
  7. I was finally able to hear most of the album and I must agree with those who have mentioned "goosebumps" moments. This is easily their best work in 20 years or more. I can't wait until Tuesday night, once my daughter goes to bed, so that I can sit with my headphones and really take in the whole album. I haven't been this stoked about a new Rush album since Moving Pictures came out.
  8. QUOTE (Tombstone Mountain @ Jun 4 2012, 12:05 PM) QUOTE (bruggy66 @ Jun 4 2012, 09:29 AM) My only issue with Geddy's vocals of late is that I don't think that his voice is well suited for more than one harmony track. When they start with the "Geddy choir" stuff, I really don't care for it. As far as his voice now compared to the old days. I think that he's doing fine. Let's face it, as people age, their voices change, especially "throat singers" like most rock vocalists are. I'm sure that the 3 hour shows also contribute to the fatigue during concerts. If you listen to properly trained singers (Darryl Hall comes to mind), most of them sound great even into old age, but Geddy does not fall into that category. Personally, I think that they still put on a hell of a show, and I always look forward to their new releases, even if they are not my favorite Rush albums. I'll be seeing them on this tour, and I'm sure they will be great as usual! damn skippy...good observation from an unexpected reference to Mr. Hall...who is still kickin it? have you seen him unplugged with just john? I think it was from A & E a year or two ago...awesome!!!! No I didn't see that, but I heard him on "Ron & Fez" doing an interview about his "Darryl's House" show. They were playing clips of him singing with Smokey Robinson and he sounded JUST like he did 30 years ago. The subject of his voice came up in the interview and he explained about his voice training and how it has preserved his voice.

  10. How about an acoustic version of "losing it"?
  11. Parking isn't that bad if you're willing to walk a block or two. Personally, I prefer to to park in Bloomfield and take the light rail. Free parking and a $3.00 round trip train ticket. Pretty good deal, and very convenient.
  12. I've been there for several hockey and basketball games. As long as you're not behind the stage (which they don't sell for Rush anyway), you should be in good shape just about anywhere. The upper level is contoured in a way that brings you close to action. It's a bit steep up there, but I got used to it pretty quickly. I actually prefer the balcony sections for hockey. It's a better view than being downstairs. Also, the building is beautiful. Great place. I can't wait for the show!
  13. I paid over $300.00 for two tickets for this tour, and although it was worth it, it's about as high as I am will (or able) to go. I would certainly love to see at least a "B-Sides" set though. Some songs I'd love to hear: Making Memories (perhaps acoustic??) Different Strings (also acoustic) The Weapon Kid Gloves Alien Shore Turn The Page Nocturne Vapor Trail
