  1. QUOTE (An Enemy Without @ Jul 26 2012, 03:10 PM) Your enjoyment of the album should not be affected by others'. Yes, Commander. Should I spread the word?
  2. QUOTE (ReflectedLight @ Jul 26 2012, 02:55 PM) QUOTE (LyndseyG @ Jul 26 2012, 01:10 PM) Rushgoober, once again let me just say how relieved and happy I am they you live this album so much! why is it so important for one to like it? i guess it'll make it a better listening experience for some knowing that others love it. Energy is contagious Enthusiasm spreads Tides respond to lunar gravitation Everything turns in synchronous relation Laughter is infectious Excitement goes to my head Winds are stirred by planets in rotation Sparks ignite and spread new information Respond, vibrate, feed back, resonate Sun dogs fire on the horizon Meteor rain stars across the night This moment may be brief But it can be so bright Hope is epidemic Optimism spreads Bitterness breeds irritation Ignorance breeds imitation Sun dogs fire on the horizon Meteor rain stars across the night This moment may be brief But it can be so bright Reflected in another source of light When the moment dies The spark still flies Reflected in another pair of eyes Dreams are sometimes catching Desire goes to my head Love responds to your invitation Love responds to imagination Respond, vibrate, feed back, resonate
  3. QUOTE (An Enemy Without @ Jul 26 2012, 02:34 PM) Seriously, I leave this forum for a day or two, and BAM! All of the hater haters have taken over! What is wrong with you people! Is it so wrong to dislike an album? I am positive that negativity can be a positive thing every once in a while! Positively! And then I see you people try and stamp it out! Really? REALLY?!? I think it's time for you to ask, what would Neil do? Simple as that. What would Neil do? Even you most fanboyish fanboys (for and nor but or yet so) can agree that Rush has at least one song that could possibly contain a single, barely discernible flaw that may or may not make the song just a tiny bit less enjoyable. Can you? Now expand that a bit and try and imagine how one might dislike an entire album. Can you? No? Okay. Never mind. But the thing that stands out the most is the sheer hypocrisy. You see people complaining, and what do you do? You complain! I'm sick of your complaining! I'm tired of your complaining! I'm sick and tired of your complaining! I'm actually sick! (Don't worry it's just a cold). Stop complaining! Thanks, Ben Dover Yes, your majesty. Love, Heywood Jablomie

  5. QUOTE (They Bow Defeated @ Jul 26 2012, 01:37 PM) QUOTE (LyndseyG @ Jul 26 2012, 01:10 PM) Rushgoober, once again let me just say how relieved and happy I am they you live this album so much! Careful, Tony R will smack you down for congratulating a forum member like this. Yeah, how dare you feel good that someone shares your enthusiasm and excitement. We're not human, you know......we're just stupid.
  6. QUOTE (Gompers @ Jul 26 2012, 01:47 PM) I expected more actually especially with vast improvement of S&A over VT. I thought Nick would really get the boys to pull out something spectacular. While it is good, and I like it, I still do not find it great because it has clunkers like Halo Effect, Wish Them Well, and Carnies. Even the greatness of the title track can't elevate this out of a 7/10 star rating. Its cool. Least you're enjoying quite a bit of it.
  7. You keep going, Tombstone! Creative stuff and it made me smile!

Could a mod move this for me? sounds like the wrong chilli recipe too You forgot the cheese.
  9. QUOTE (rushgoober @ Jul 26 2012, 11:26 AM) QUOTE (Gedneil Alpeart @ Jul 26 2012, 09:22 AM) QUOTE (An Enemy Without @ Jul 26 2012, 11:12 AM) It is actually a very good album, much better than I thought it would be coming off of such a long break. Caravan has always kicked ass IMO. I esp like the middle instrumental breakdown. The chorus is a bit monotonous, though. I think it's great all the way through. For a LONG time I couldn't relate to the whole "I can't stop thinking big" thing. It just didn't seem that inspiring to me, especially when compared with a song like Far Cry, but once I was able to hear it in context with the concept it clicked. Tony was correct when saying "greater than sum of its parts". It's a true ALBUM in that sense, something very wholesome and retro in an age of singles and fast food music The concept nature of it elevates it more than had it just been a collection of disparate songs.
  10. QUOTE (Tony R @ Jul 26 2012, 11:28 AM) QUOTE (rushgoober @ Jul 26 2012, 05:04 PM) Awhile back I started a somewhat infamous thread that I was dreading the release of CA. At the time I said: QUOTE I know "dread" is a strong word to use, but I'm just not looking forward to what I fear will be yet another late career, sub-standard release. Some will say I'm setting myself up for disappointment, but I feel if anything I'm trying to prevent myself from being disappointed by keeping my expectations, based on my experience with the album so far, in check. I'd rather be pleasantly surprised than have unrealistic expectations crushed. At the time I really didn't care for Caravan & BU2B, and while I liked Headlong Flight, I wasn't loving it either. Somehow, magically, Headlong Flight really grew on me, and the first two tracks suddenly were brilliant when put into context. I truly didn't think context could save those songs, but they did. Other than that, this is just an incredibly strong album. I listen to it in amazement each time, waiting for the other shoe to drop and for me to suddenly see it as mediocre, but it simply doesn't happen! If anything, it just keeps giving and giving and getting better and better with one great song after another! There was a thread shortly before CA was released where people got to predict what numerical ranking the album would get. I gave it a 5, and then after I thought about it, thought 4 was more realistic. Now that it's out, I give it a solid 8.5 out of 10. No, 8.5 is not a 10, but for them to make an album THAT good at this stage in their career I consider a miracle! I was hoping against hope for 2 or 3 great songs, and I was skeptical I'd get that. In reality, there are at least 8 or 9! I said in a recent thread: QUOTE I was the first person to say that I really hoped I was wrong about the upcoming album, that I would love it, that I never wanted to not like or love a Rush album. I just didn't think it was possible. I also maintained when people tried to pigeonhole me as being too prejudiced against new Rush to like it, or to admit to liking it if I did, that I would give it more than a fair shot and listen objectively. I did. I'm not going to deny myself great Rush if I hear it because of being unwilling to let go of preconceived notions or maintaining some kind of image. F*ck that! 1287.gif Sometimes it's awesome to be wrong. Clockwork Angels rocks! That's basically my own experience with the album dating back to the initial release of Caravan and BU2B. http://www.progarchives.com/Review.asp?id=792040 Except I rate it at probably between 9.4 and 9.6. :::fanboy::: Im profoundly touched.

That did not happen with S and A with me. Good sign for CA's longevity and securing itself highly among Rush albums.....right now, fifth best Rush album for me.

Nice attention grab. I'm still waiting for Trenken and Gemini to weigh in with theirs: Caravan 0/10 BU2B 0/10 Clockwork Angels 0/10 The Anarchist 0/10 Carnies 0/10 Halo Effect 0/10 Seven Cities Of Gold 0/10 The Wreckers 0/10 Headlong Flight 0/10 BU2B2 0/10 Wish Them Well 0/10 The Garden 0/10 Why do you care how other people perceive or enjoy an album. The fact that you like it should be enough. Other posts that say "I'm glad you like "it"" are equally perplexing. eg: QUOTE Seriously, I'm glad you're liking it so much. trink39.gif CA really is amazingly consistent, as seen in your ratings. I hope Seven Cities grows on you. I know you like the debut, and for me Seven Cities really sounds like a modern take on What You're Doing or Working Man (Zeppelin-ish blues rock). It's become one of my top 2-3 tracks on the album. 1022.gif Why should you wish that a track grows on someone? You didnt write it and it shouldn't change your enjoyment whether they do or they don't. Obviously we're all interested in what other fans think about CA, or we wouldn't check out this forum. I'm still tying to figure out why YOU'RE here, though. If CA earns a 3/10 for you but is their best since Signals, obviously everything Rush has done for thirty years has been shit for you. So why are you still here with 4800+ posts after thirty years of dissapointment? After three freaking decades, I think I would move on. EDIT: Just saw your review on Prog Archives, and I'm completely confused. How do you give CA a five star rating given your ratings above? Because of people like you! Stop over-reacting to what other people think and feel about music. Stop being a sheep. I have to admit that I'm completely puzzled as well. How do you give the album a 3/10 average when rating it per song, but then give it a 5 out of 5 star review? The math doesn't add up. He's fishing for reactions. He knows that certain people are going to get all riled up over low ratings for the songs. No,I think that the ratings are nonsensical without any explanation. Also, the fanboys put too much store on other people's opinions. I want to puke ever time I read something like "I can't wait to hear Goob's take on this" or "Tick's going to get all Ticky about...". Or even, how can you rate these songs so low yet give them a five star review. One's shit on a message board the other is a considered review. An album is about more than individual songs. When I first heard Headlong Flight I didn't really like it but as part of the album it works extremely well. And people take Rush wayyyy too seriously... Yeah.....Rush....some kind of self indulging dino band loved by snobs and old farts.....whatever....
  15. QUOTE (Slack jaw gaze @ Jul 25 2012, 08:00 PM) If it's not 18 minutes of shredding, time changes, and void of melody, it's not prog enough dude. I'm going to pine for 1978 for the next 34 years, just like the last 34. Good one....
  16. QUOTE (Priest of Syrinx @ Jul 25 2012, 07:08 PM) You must be new to Rush CA is a fine album, but it is not nearly as good as the CoS -> MP era. While most would disagree that CA is THE best Rush album, it is to me and many others one of their best albums and to me their best since Signals.
