  1. QUOTE (Rushman14 @ Jul 30 2012, 12:17 PM) an even better question is why does this thread suck so hard?
  2. QUOTE (losingit2k @ Jul 29 2012, 12:10 PM) Well we've had a "What went wrong" Thread a "What when right" Thread and even a "What else went wrong thread" so why not a "What could have gone wrong but didn't" Thread. I felt we are blessed to witness RUSH 20th, studio album. They could have called it quits or not even recorded anything. So much could have gone wrong in a year not to mention five. So just the fact that they given us Clockwork Angels is an incredible gift. So many things could have gone wrong for us not to have received this masterpiece. Untimely deaths like Andrew's, Illness, personal issues so many things working against them not to mention the fact that these guys are pushing 60. They aren't spring chickens any longer. I'm sure playing 3 hour shows on tour must take its toll. Regardless, of the aforementiomned they still tour. They also provide us with new music when they tour. Which brings me to my next point. They have nearly 40 years of music to choose from in order to tour. Do you really think they need to provide us with new music in order to do so? No, not really! They don't even need to tour anymore for that matter. So just having the opportunity to see them again live only a year after the last tour is extremely special and again in support of a new album, Remember this album could have sucked. This is clearly not the case. CA is possibly the best album since Moving Pictures. We should really thank our stars, they haven't gone away. They are still alive, and are still providing us with great, incredible, outstanding music as they have done for nearly 40 years. No other band has provided their fan base with so much great music....No one! Not the Beatles, not Led Zepplin, not Pink Floyd or Genesis or the Who or the Stones. Many of the bands previously mentioned have provided us with music but not to extent or caliber of the music that RUSH has provided towards the end of their career. Five years ago we though they were done after the Vapor Trials and R30 Tour. But we received S & A which was a giant step forward from VT sonically, and now they have really given us a masterpierce. This album is Great! It is a Work of Genius and yes a masterpiece! Its a Measure of a life! Not to mention it's RUSH! Thanks guys once again, for providing to the Soundtrack to my Life!
  3. Kids who love Rush ROCK!!!
  4. QUOTE (condemned2bfree @ Jul 20 2012, 11:00 PM) QUOTE (Tigershark2112 @ Jul 20 2012, 04:40 PM) I really liked this post, as I'm deeply involved with the story of CA. This is the first time in a while I've actually learned something from a forum post rather than just reading some bonehead's opinion on what they don't like! Very intriguing! its great on here to read peoples creativity, ideas and thoughts on rush topics, discussing them openly. All too often its smart ass one upmanship, trying to get one over, on some one else. its a blood bath on here sometimes. Too true....i've sucked into that bs before and I hate it. Kudos to tge OP!
  5. QUOTE (deathlikesilence @ Jul 27 2012, 07:00 PM) i really hope the opener isnt far cry, and i actually like far cry They should open with Dog Years.....all Rush fans would looking at each other with a WTF look and I would be rolling on the floor laughing my arse off......

  7. QUOTE (That One Guy @ Jul 27 2012, 07:23 PM) It's a fantastic short solo. I wish he would've expanded on it and kept going. True....my one major gripe about some of the solos on CA is that they sound truncated without too much elaboration....wish Alex could have let loose and relaxed more.
  8. QUOTE (Hakky2112 @ Jul 27 2012, 06:50 PM) The chord(s) that bang it all in @ 5:08 - 5:37 I think I'll listen to it again (and again) Elements of: Analog Kid Kid Gloves Red Barchetta YYZ Alien Shore? Great post and I agree. One of Alex's most potent solos...arguaby the most potent solo since Cut to the Chase. Love the middle eastern flavor of it like we hear in YYZ. Of course, solo in YYZ is better to me.
  9. QUOTE (LedRush @ Jul 27 2012, 01:40 PM) There's a few things for me: 1. Catchy songs - Rush was never about hits, but the last two albums lacked many songs that were memorable once the CD was out of the player. 2. Few plodding songs that go nowhere - this destroyed S&A. Almost every song other than the instrumentals and Far Cry were trudging songs that had neither pace or any place to go. 3. Guitar solos - They're BACK BABY! 4. Light and Shadow - The album has a flow, filled with highs and lows, that make it very easy to listen to it over and over again. 5. Tight and loose - The songs benefit from faster pacing and looser "feels", even though the technical proficiency is still there. For me, this is the best album since MP for these reasons. In a perfect world, the production and the sound would be cleaner, and the vocals less processed, but this is an improvement over the last two albums anyway. Great points. To me, best album since Signals.
  10. QUOTE (They Bow Defeated @ Jul 27 2012, 11:59 AM) QUOTE (WCFIELDS @ Jul 27 2012, 11:39 AM) QUOTE (Tombstone Mountain @ Jul 27 2012, 10:32 AM) QUOTE (ReflectedLight @ Jul 27 2012, 11:30 AM) if there is another album i'd like to see someone different in the mix. If it aint broke do mess with it There are some production issues with it....you, being in the Rush marketing/promotions dept. must be aware of that. C'mon now Well, you're one of the heads of Rush Complaints & Grievances, so maybe you can lay it all out for us? good retort
  11. Well, since Signals, Rush has never stuck with one producer for more than 2 consecutive records, am I right? Maybe it will be different this time....who knows. That's assuming they continue with another one.
  12. QUOTE (ReflectedLight @ Jul 27 2012, 11:30 AM) if there is another album i'd like to see someone different in the mix. like Terry Brown?
  13. QUOTE (skullchrist @ Jul 27 2012, 09:38 AM) Bottom line. On this one I believe they actually listened to their producer. Just going with my gut instinct here. They were so used to running the show that some stagnation started to set in. Just my humble opinion. Great point and true. After a while, without someone being around to help you gain perspective nad tap into your true strengths, as an artist, you can tend to drift or even become complacent. Nick was even quoted as telling the guys, "Hey, you're RUSH .....you can do this....you've done it before!".....or something like that. Some may disagree and that's fine, but I think Nick is good for Rush....even though he's a fan, I don't think he lets his admiration for them get in the way for what he thinks is best for them at this stage of their career. Even Geddy recognized that in one of his interviews and talked about it.
  14. QUOTE (Tombstone Mountain @ Jul 27 2012, 08:10 AM) QUOTE (greyfriar @ Jul 27 2012, 04:10 AM) Easy to answer: - Touching songs (Halo Effect, The Garden) - Epic rock songs (Clockwork Angels, Headlong Flight) - Guitar Soli are back (The Anarchist, HF, The Garden, CA...) - Concept album with great story - Experiments with sounds - guitars, vocals (Carnies, BU2B2) - Fantastic string arrangements - Hooks, Refrains, Melodies (The Wreckers, Wish Them Well, 7 Cities...) - Groovy, trippy jam sections - Straight ahead rockers (Caravan, BU2B+new Intro) - Great artwork - The Wassermans ^..^^..^ - .............................(it's your turn to complete the list) Outstanding points my friend...one piece you didn't mention: Booujzhe Agreed! Fantastic points!!!!
  15. QUOTE (RushIslander @ Jul 26 2012, 08:22 PM) Goose~bump moments throughout the whole album, accompanied by tears in a couple of spots, for me at least. It's been a LONG time since that has happened from a new Rush release...first time I needed a tissue. A Classic in my world! Right with ya!
  16. QUOTE (launchpad67a @ Jul 26 2012, 07:30 PM) The record rocks, tells a good story, and has very good performances on it. ** waits for the usual haters to ruin this thread. Won't be long now... Yeah, Im expecting the usual.....but still.....thought I'd throw this out there.....
  17. QUOTE (lifeson90 @ Jul 26 2012, 07:25 PM) what went right for CA were the first 5 songs written before the time machine tour, followed by the break in writing for the time machine tour which is what went wrong as they werent in the sweet spot anymore Well, at least you salvaged 5, which used to be the majority of a full Rush album in the early days....
  18. QUOTE (av450 @ Jul 26 2012, 07:25 PM) short answer yes long answer no Smartass....
  19. For those of you who appreciate CA, what did Rush do that was most important to you that makes you like this album? How is that the same or different than previous albums? For me, it's the imtensity of their playing and concentrated approach....does not feel loose, scattered, and wobbly like the prev 3 Rush albums. It's a mean and lean musical style....there is concentrated anger, attitude and focus, which I love. They went for the jugular and did it with passion. The whole album has a live feel and sound.
