  1. I used to hate T4E so much I re-shrinked it and returned it to the store when it was first released. Now I like it... Except Dog Years of course. I still think Counterparts is excellent today. If I had one critique of the later, it would be the inconsistency of it. Some songs had a 90's hard edge to them, others sounded more like their 80's days. I like both these albums WAY better than HYF, Presto and RTB...I just hated their over produced, over synthed, gutless guitar sounding days.
  2. The question that needs to be asked is, why would anyone want to make a bootleg of this CD? Generally people only counterfeit rare CD's that fetch $50 and up.
  3. The original Canadian Anthem's, hands down. They sound almost identical to the vinyl's. They're also the hardest to find.
  4. Mine's in a jewel as well, like the OP's photo...And it's not a bootleg. Actually it sounds better than the vinyl.
  5. Ha, the '97 remaster is the worst of the worst. Not only is it the worst Signals, it's one of the worst CD's I've ever heard in general...A real ear bleeder which led to an array of ear difficulties for me, because I played it so much, before I knew better. (IE: Over EQ'd and compressed to the max). If you guys are cranking this one, you're going to kill your speakers. The best Signals CD is the AMCY-291, which is the same as the SHM-CD... But the US vinyl makes even that CD sound like crap.
  6. Seems to me that the band has chosen their own favorite songs, rather than the fans. I think they've earned that.
  7. QUOTE QUOTE (shail @ Jun 22 2012, 09:18 PM) Waiste of money vinyl. Its a freakin digital product. Warmer? What? Same as a cd. Christ. wrong! VERY VERY WRONG! This dude has no idea what he's talking about. QUOTE If I wanted to buy a good vinyl player, but not spend an arm or a leg, which one would you recommend? Depends on your budget but generally in order to get a good sound from vinyl you DO need to spend an arm and a leg. Cleaning machines alone cost $500+.
  8. I don't agree. Basically all you're saying is you want the band to go back to doing albums the way they were in the 70's/80's and that's not going to happen. I think some people take for granted that the band has been going since 1968. We're lucky they're still coming out with anything. Keyboards...There are keyboards in their latest albums. Geddy is not going to make them sound like the 80's. He also finds it difficult (he is in his 60's you know) to play complex keyboard parts live. He's also been trying to wean off them for over a decade now, which I for one am glad. Lack of experimentation: I think CA is original enough. How many band members in their 60's are pushing out new trend-setting sounds? NO ONE. The only thing I can agree is production but only in the mastering stage. The boys need to get over the pier pressure of having their music tweaked LOUD for the IPOD crowd, for the sole reason that everyone else is doing it. CA doesn't sound BAD (not like VT) but it could sound a lot better.

QUOTE vapor trails sounded fine to me so i don't know what the hell you guys are talking about. I listened to VT once. Liked the songs but the SQ sounded like I was putting sand paper to my ears. That was another case where I was hoping the CD would sound better than the leaked MP3's...BUT NOPE.

QUOTE OMG "Rush Fan Central" It must be true then! Bah Bah Bah! The bass is hurting the sound, Bah, bah, bah. The Stevehoffman forum is the last word on anything. Bah, bah, bah. I can't possibly believe anything else and I surely can't think for myself so I'll just agree! Bah, bah, Bah! But I know many of those people who are reporting this and trust what they are saying. I don't know who the F*@K you are.

The bass on the leaked MP3s is very bloated and unnatural sounding. I was hoping it was just the MP3's and my wishful thinking was hoping that the studio released those MP3's but intentionally tweaked them to make them sound inferior. But NOPE.

QUOTE For people who struggle with hearing "sound quality" maybe this will help them? I'm assuming you have seen HIGH DEF tv, and remember what tv used to look like ? Well, our ears can HEAR what your eyes SEE. OR... have you ever seen a well done 3D movie and you can see the DEPTH, etc. thats our ears. Just trying to help those who honestly don't understand WHY sound quality matters to us.... thanks I think the best way to single out true audiophiles is to get them to listen to a DVD from a PAL source vs one from an NTSC source. If they can easily hear the PAL speedup, then they are probably an audiophile or on the road to being one. I can hear PAL speedup right off the bat and it drives me nuts. Most don't hear it at all.

I'm afraid many on the stevehoffman forum are saying the same thing. I don't have the CD yet but I'm already disappointed because I know many of the folks over there know what they're talking about. Fortunately the HDTracks are supposed to sound a little better and the vinyl is supposed to sound even better than that. So I'm going to buy the CD AND one day download a vinyl rip when available.
  14. Your opinion sucks...What can I say, I had to state something different than the others here.
  15. I don't know where to post this as this site doesn't seem to have a forum for site issues. But anyway, it would be nice to be able to make quick edits to posts without the "This post has been edited by....." I mean if I forget to put a period in a sentence, I'm going to have this shown under my post. Seems unnecessary.
  16. QUOTE Too bad it's not an audiophile quality release like almost every PT album is. This new album is a brickwalled mess. So you have heard the CD, right? Or even better, the LP? You do have enough sense to not be basing your opinion on the leaked MP3's, right?
  17. The album was really good on my first listen. For me if an album doesn't sound good the first time around it never will. I've decided not to listen a second time until I get the actual CD...Already threw out my illegal disc of MP3's.
  18. I can't believe the OP is basing his opinions on leaked MP3's. Unbelievable! The quality of MP3's are just god awful and I wish the format would just go away.
  19. Rush has never been a balled band but I think it's a bout time they did a balled in the vein/league of Stairway to Heaven...And they succeeded!
  20. I would personally rank this the best album since Grace Under Pressure. To me the band starting going down hill after that. After this album my ranking would jump back to Power Windows and then jump to Counterparts after that. I was never a fan of their stuff between those two albums.
  21. I wouldn't really give it an 11 but I did vote 9. This is the first Rush album since Counterparts that didn't need to grow on me to like it. Well, some tracks on S&A were like that too but ALL the tracks on CA are fantastic. Wish Them Well isn't bad it's just not as good as the others, hence the 9 rating. I'm not even sure which track is the best, they are all that great!
  22. QUOTE I could do without Halo Effect WHAT??????????!!!
