  1. Best post. Period. This was my exact point all along. I know this is happening. I know about "supply and demand". I know that it has been this way for years. The point is...it SHOULDN'T happen this way. Ticketmaster advertises prices for tickets, yet sells them on the exact same site for 5 times the value. Then the "protect us from bots" messages. It's all bogus, and it's all crap.
  2. For me, it's COLLINS all the way. I know that some of their later material became a bit overly "poppy". But still some great songs. My favourite Genesis album is still the self-titled "Shapes" album. 'Mama' and 'Home By The Sea/Second Home' are two of my favourite songs, period. Also, 'Just a Job To Do' is criminally underrated.
  3. First one that comes to mind is CARNIES. I was a huge fan of CA from the beginning...but I always ranked Carnies near the bottom. It didn't really resonate with me until they played it live...it was smokin'!
  4. Exactly. It's what I was saying earlier...this is basically legalized scalping. Absolutely ridiculous...yet people think that TM has nothing shady about them!
  5. Maybe it triggers the narration in The Necromancer!!!! :o (Seriously though...I was wondering the same thing. It's interesting.)
  6. At this point...not really any "must see" bands for me. I've always shelled out the most money for Rush, and made sure to see them "no matter what". These days, I'm usually more interested in trying to catch bands I've never seen before that I've always wanted to see. There are artists like Joe Satriani, for instance, that I try to catch on every tour. His ticket prices aren't usually outrageous, and I've been lucky that he's been coming close to home. It will be a sad reality when the Boys call it quits for good.
  7. Agreed. I'm planning to take this approach this year. I've already got upper bowl tickets to one show, and for the other...I will wait it out. I fully intend to be there...but not at these ludicrous prices.
  8. Yep...this is pretty much it, if you ask me. I think whenever they think of the album, they immediately think of a few things: 1) The "Down The Tubes" tour 2) Their album with the least commercial success (at least up to that point) 3) The album that almost ended their career It's really unfortunate because if they listen...at least to most of their hardcore fans (like us here)...Caress of Steel usually gets rave reviews and most of us would like to see some CoS material performed live. I've only been going to tours since VT...so personally, the only CoS material I've ever seen live is the minute or so of the Bastille Day intro in the 'R30 Medley'. I would LOVE to see even a few parts of The Necromancer or Fountain of Lamneth...even just some instrumental parts. Would be amazing.
  9. I think the most passionate fans may not necessarily have enough spare coin to justify paying what it costs for a Platinum ticket, let alone more than one. When Ticketmaster refers to the 'most passionate fans', I think their definition is something a bit different from mine. Passion does not necessarily equal thousands upon thousands of disposable dollars in the bank. LOL...no kidding, eh? You gotta love that. I guess despite owning every Rush release, in almost every format, as well as with over half the items sold on the Backstage Club, going to multiple shows every tour since I've been a fan, being a member of TRF, and overall being a fan of literally every song they've ever written... ...the fact that I don't have disposable income to just drop $500-$1000 on a $150 dollar ticket means I'm just not that passionate of a Rush fan. Who would've thunk it?!
  10. I'm sorry...and I mean this in the nicest way I can, but this all sounds very delusional. If you truly believe that there is no shady stuff going on with TM, LN, etc...then I don't really know what to tell you. But in the end, it doesn't matter that they are more popular than ever (which I obviously agree they absolutely are). This whole thing goes well beyond Rush. Personally, I've been buying tickets for various concerts, sporting events, etc. through TM for years now...and I've seen the same thing for all of them. This is not only about Rush...they just happen to be the example we're all talking about here (of course). I've said this before...a person is on TM for 10am SHARP...Public on-sale time, and yet, cannot find ANY tickets. No Floor, No Lower Bowl, and not even any Upper Bowl. Does this make any sense whatsoever? As "popular" as they are, I highly doubt Rush sells out 15,000 tickets within seconds of release. Sorry...don't buy it. 'Platinum Seats'...is this not essentially legalized scalping? Pretty sure it is. They take all the top seats...then put them on this "Platinum" page and charge a premium price for them...BEFORE anyone ever gets the chance to purchase them at face value. Another common theme I've seen a lot...and I find it funny because it has happened to me multiple times in the past (again...not just for Rush, but other shows). I have tickets for some pretty good seats (at least the best at that time)...start going through the checkout process, where it proceeds to "crash", and those tickets are gone. (Sure...you could likely argue that "it's the Internet", and "tons of people purchasing at the same time", so "it crashes". But it's interesting that every single example I've heard of this happening is when the people had their best seats by far.) Again...I'm sure you think I sound like I'm complaining about conspiracy. But there are way too many factors that point to ridiculous and shady garbage happening with TM. Like I said...in the end, I'm just going with the flow. I opted to purchase two upper bowl tickets for a show, and intend to enjoy the show. Would I have preferred to sit down on the Floors? Absolutely. But money is a factor, sadly. Throwing down a mortgage payment on a concert...even for the greatest band of all-time, is too difficult for this fan.
  11. :goodone: My first Rush concert was AFTK. At this point I am going with a cheap upper level ticket. I have seen them front row in the past and I just want to be there. :codger: :rush: Agreed. I hear ya. For me, I'm a bit of a "younger" fan (30's), and became a fan right around the end of the TFE tour, so my first Rush show was the Vapor Trails tour. As mentioned earlier in this thread, I also lucked out huge (though at a price) with Front Row seats on the CA Tour. So, for at least one show this year, I decided on Upper Bowl seats for the same reason...just happy to be there (and for my wife to go to her first show since R30!). :)
  12. Oh, I don't disagree. I fully understand the nature of "supply and demand". Believe me...I'm jealous. I'd love to be in a position where money is no factor, and I could just pay whatever I felt like with no fallout. Sadly, not the case for this fan. For me, I'm just stating that the whole process of purchasing tickets has continually gotten worse every year, and with every tour...and I just feel like some real die-hard fans are getting screwed and missing out on shows they should be at, all because of unethical practices.
  13. The problem is...in the end, the only people that could stop this are the bands / artists themselves...by refusing to use Ticketmaster, Live Nation, etc. I'm sure people could say..."well, we as fans could boycott"... but that's simply not realistic at all. It's a double-edged sword. Yes, we'd love to make a difference, and feel that the prices are ridiculous and that we wish we could pay less. But then the other side of us says...RUSH is on tour! We have to go see them! Especially now...could be their last tour ever! ETC. If bands all decided to use their own websites / fan clubs / etc. to sell tickets exclusively...I think the business practices would change a lot.
  14. There is no doubt that Ticketmaster is in cahoots with websites like StubHub as well. The fact that there are countless top seats there...and were there even before general public sales pretty much confirms that as well. The sad part is...so many die-hard fans get left out in the cold from watching their favourite band, unless they're willing to fork over a mortgage payment, which most are not...because they CANNOT. That's the real issue I have with it all.
  15. Exactly. The ticket prices are damn sure ridiculous...regardless of a person's income. However, the ticket buying process is an absolute joke. If it was legit...ALL tickets would be up for sale the moment the sales begin. For example: I was on at 10am sharp on Friday to purchase tickets to one of the Toronto shows. Guess what? All day long...and not a single ticket was coming up. So, am I to believe that they sold 15,000 tickets at the very second they went on sale?! Please. How can someone honestly get nothing available at the point of sale to the general public?! Instead, what you have is all of the top tickets being put on Ticketmaster's own 'Platinum' page at 5 times the actual face value that they have stated on THEIR very own website. Legalized scalping right from the source. If you don't see an issue with that, I'm not sure what to say.
  16. Absolutely. Ticket purchases are becoming increasingly frustrating...and I don't really think this is just for Rush, but between my hardcore love for the band and the demand they seem to warrant, it makes it seem even worse when purchasing tickets for their tours. I like that you brought up the 'Platinum Tickets' thing. This is basically legalized scalping. It's basically frowned upon, unless you're Ticketmaster, which then makes it okay?! I will tell you now though...prices are even more ridiculous than ever. For the one show, I picked up two UPPER BOWL tickets, simply because I had a tough time justifying $170 a ticket to sit in the Lower Bowl. Now...those same seats down below...just lower bowl, not even Floor...are $500+ through TM's Platinum Tickets. What an f'n joke. I will say this...I used their Platinum Tickets last tour...but it was for a reason...I managed to score 4 FRONT ROW seats...FOUR! Clearly, I struck gold that tour because I didn't pay anywhere near $500 each. Ticket prices are basically doubled now. It's getting ludicrous.
  17. If by "selling out"...you mean to scalpers, then you're correct. The fact is...there is some real disgusting stuff going on here. I know, I know...this has become the norm now, but it is ridiculous. I was on TM at 10am sharp this morning looking for tickets to the Toronto show(s), and have been finding absolutely NO tickets all day long...right from the get-go. I'd like to believe that TM has not yet released ALL tickets...and that there will be plenty more coming for all venues. But right now...it looks like StubHub has more tickets available than TM...and at hundreds to thousands dollars more than face value.
  18. I definitely try not to look, but I do understand why people do. Same reason some people find out the sex of a baby during an ultrasound... helps to plan. While I try not to, there have been times that I have looked and I was glad I did, due to reasons LED has mentioned like learning songs you might not be super familiar with. I think at this point, I am familiar with their whole catalog enough to not look at all. I really hope there is a minimal setlist and they do whatever the heck they want from night to night. I know with their production, that is very unlikely. Looking forward to this being their last tour "of this magnitude" because maybe future shows may be a little more free form. Oh, I agree. Oh, and yes...I know I've heard it here many times before...that people "plan their beer / bathroom breaks" accordingly. I guess I can't really comprehend that ideology, since I'm there bell-to-bell. Even intermissions...I try to be quick so I don't miss even a second of the videos and such. Then again, I consider myself a fan of all of their songs, so nothing is "bathroom material" to me. Plus...when you account for how much money you spend (especially this tour)...I need to get my absolute money's worth.
  19. NEVER. Especially when it comes to Rush...I like to be fully surprised. To me, the experience is so much better! I'll never understand why people check them...especially if you are already planning to go regardless / have tickets in hand.
  20. ^THIS There was a note on Ticketmaster stating that it has been changed to 8:00pm now.
  21. Wow...a little late to the party. Haven't been around lately. But THANK YOU guys! It's been awesome to be have been on TRF for so long now! Just a great group of people here! Looking forward to a great year of RUSH in 2015! :)
  22. So...I came across this article from "Classic Rock" with the following header: "Rush Tour Likely to be Last of Its Kind" Rush say via a press release: “These not-to-be-missed concerts will highlight four decades of the band’s music. This will most likely be their last major tour of this magnitude.” http://classicrock.teamrock.com/news/2015-01-23/rush-tour-likely-to-be-last-of-its-kind What do you guys make of this? A smart marketing ploy...or a sign of the band winding down?
  23. Well...I honestly would prefer them heading to the Studio for a new album first. But I anticipated the tour was more likely anyway. So...with that said...I'm hopeful for the ACC shows! Must. Start. Saving. Now. :haz:
  24. I haven't been around much in the past few weeks...has this been posted already? http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/hamilton/news/rush-receiving-humanitarian-award-at-juno-awards-1.2902074 Congrats to the Boys! Well deserved...and arguably an honour even bigger than anything music-related.
