  1. I am reminded of Robin Williams' comedy act when he said how after we're all dead and gone Keith Richards will still be around with 5 cockroaches. Keith, the only man who could snort anthrax and live to tell the tale.
  2. QUOTE (alphseeker @ Apr 3 2007, 11:44 PM) I know i'll be hated for this but "Quentin Tarantino" Yeah the Kill Bill movies were unique but he doesn't direct enough to consider him great - He made two great movies in 94' and 92' Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs but for being a director for over 15 years his resume is pretty slim - I don't hate you for this comment. You actually have a really good point there. I think the problem with Tarentino's films are that they have become extremely formulaic and are more concerned with blood, guns and swearing rather than a storyline that you can respect and say "Hey that was really interesting." Rather than, "wow so much gore, I almost threw up!" You can have a director who oozes action and violence like Robert Rodriguez and still pulls off one hell of a story. (Watch Grindhouse APRIL 6TH to understand my compairison) But somewhere after Pulp Fiction... they all got to be the same in Tarentino's case with the exception of Kill Bill (one of my fave movies) and I think that is where he has earned his "Overrated" rep from some. Also to say something as rediclous as M. Night Shamylan is even compareable to Alfred Hitchcock, you really need to put the crack pipe away. Hitchcock is probably one of the most innovative and creative directors of all time. How could someone compare Lady in the Water to Vertigo, or Signs to Psycho??? It boggles the mind. In Spike Lee's defense, I actually really liked The Inside Man. I thought it was well thought out and the ending was just fabulous! Spielberg is still on my top overrated director's list. I really think that after Jaws he just kinda caught a sniff his own shit and began to think it didn't stink. Jaws is an amazing movie, one of my faves actually... the sequels are horrible (I've ripped on them in another thread here) but Jurassic Park was so full of holes and don't even get me started on Minority Report. Where are all the goodies like Stanley Kubrick when you need them? Also on the David Fincher issue... he's got some really cool movies under his belt (Fight Club) and he's still young enough that he can learn more to be a really great director. Not at all overrated IMHO. A good director to really keep an eye out for these days is Alfonso Cuaron (Children of Men) he is known for his long shots. Just a question, does anyone think John Wu is overrated?
  3. I just got back from screening Fracture...no I don't mean the King Crimson song of the same name... I mean the new Anthony Hopkins and Ryan Gosling thriller coming to a theatre near you on April 20th. It's got a great storyline and it's extremely smart and full of twists, the Ryan Gosling eye candy is pretty sweet too. Check out the Trailer here: http://www.fracturemovie.com/
  4. QUOTE (Jack Aubrey @ Apr 3 2007, 04:05 PM) Scorcese?! Put down the crack pipe. David Lynch is over-rated. I mean, what's he done lately? I'm inclined to agree about Tim Burton, in that I like only a handful of his films, but when he makes a good one it's really good. Others: Woody Allen. George Lucas (OK, two of his movies were good and one was OK, but the rest stank.) David Fincher. His movies just make you want to kill yourself. I do have a soft spot for 'Fight Club' but that's only because of the cool twist. Michael Bay. Brain De Palma. Stephen Sommers. Kevin Smith. Paul Verhoeven, though his commentary track on the 'Starship Troopers' DVD (it was a gift, I didn't buy it!) does make me laugh. "Vahr is bat bat bat!" Cameron Crowe, king of the boring-assed chick flick. Though I loved his first three movies, M. Night Shamalamadingdong is moving into over-rated territory. His next movie will decide it. Joel Schumacher. Personally I dont think that Scorcese is overrated... I mentioned him in the mix because a lot of people I know (film geeks) have been known to say that. I think he is great and a lil bit under-rated IMO. And Finbar, So David Lynch movies make you wanna fuckuing puke? Just like what warm beer does to Dennis Hopper in Blue Velvet! The reason why I said David Lynch is not an overrated filmaker, is because although you may think his films are pretentuious, he is doing something different with filming. His close up shots and magnification of sound and the ability to make his paintings turn into movies is innovative and accomplished. Not a lot of people like his stuff, but a handful do. George Lucas, OMG I love Star Wars but hue is not f***ing GOD!
  5. I just got the special edition on DVD and watched it again. I think I used to like it better than I did this time around. Tom Cruise is brilliant though, yes he does play himself. A woman manipulating, closet case. I love Boogie Nights and Punch Drunk Love! I think Punch Drunk Love is amazing, so haunting and so much symbolism.
  6. Alright, we know them and probably love their movies the first few times we see them but after a while you start to realize that a monkey in a tutu could have made a better film. Let's hear about them and their most overrated works. I would say that Oliver Stone is very overrated! I mean he makes good films but he is not the directing GOD that a lot of people see him as. Some others hmmm... Martin Scorcese, Francis Ford Coppola, Tim Burton, Steven Bloody Spielberg, James Cameron etc... Just to get the ball rolling...
  7. Okay I have seen a lot of movies. Some of the bad ones I have seen are: The Hills Have Eyes (just bloody terrible, the only way to watch it is really really drunk) Catwoman was awful! I remember watching it with my friend and she and I laughed when the cats gave Hallie Berry CPR. Sharon Stone was disappointing. Basic Instinct 2 was crap! I LOVE the original and I was very disappointed with this sequel. They really didn't need to make another one in my opinion. Van Wilder Part Deux- What the hell.. .okay no Ryan Reynolds no sale... I mean he is VAN WILDER! Batman and Robin I agree was just terrible! Uma Thurman is it's saving grace... not by her acting, by her hot costume! And this is coming from a HUGE Batman Freak! Jaws 2 and 3 were rediculous! How the hell can a SHARK beat a JET to it's destination?! Every single Friday the 13th movie after the first 3 were craptacular! I would have to say the same for the Nightmare on Elm Street movies. The same goes for all the Hellraiser movies except for the first one, when Pinhead was called the Lead Cennobite and not some stupid catch phrase spitting icon. Wow I could go on forever about the horror movie industry and how they haven't made a good movie since the late 70's, but I wont. Tim Burton's only disappointment in my book was Corpse Bride. M. Night's only good movie was The Sixth Sense (the first time you watch it) the others were entirely overrated and I can understand why there are so many haters out there for him. I admit Lady in the Water had a cool trailer but what a piece of garbage! So loose and unthought out! This is all can think of right now.
  8. QUOTE (rushgoober @ Apr 1 2007, 10:33 PM) Are they anything more than just highly stylized violence for highly stylized violence sake? Seriously, are the movies quality movies in any way? Planet Terror is a lil over the top at times with gore but the movie is about zombies so... it is all in good fun! Death Proof isnt all that graphic in the violence dept, its more action packed I would say. Nothing as brutal as Resevoir Dogs or anything like that. So you should go see it Gary!
  9. QUOTE (rushman14 @ Mar 30 2007, 12:35 PM) YES! this is gonna rule more than anything has ruled before!
  10. OMG!!!! As I suspected be prepared for a long time in the theatre. We started it promptly at 9:30am and walked out at 12:45pm! I really don't want to give too much away because I don't like wrecking movies for people before they have seen them but I will say this... Planet Terror is Brilliant!! Lots of action, gore, zombies and a really sexy Rose McGowan with a machine gun leg. Lots of surprises in casting. In between they did have trailers for movies that don't exist which really sucks because I kinda want to see them now. I really hope that when they start showing them in the theatre APRIL 6th!!!! that they keep the trailers how they are, but they probably will put other coming attractions in the beginning of the film so you guys wont get to see it how I saw it, which was totally Grindhouse-esque. Anyway they have trailers directed by Eli Roth (Thanksgiving) and Rob Zombie (Wearwolf Women of the S.S) and a few other goodies. Death Proof is crazy. A lot of crazy action, hot girls and Kurt Russell killing girls in a fast car that he calls "Death Proof" All in all, worth watching in the theatre! I for one am seeing it a couple more times. But I warn you that we are not going to have a lot of showtimes for this one because of the length, so be sure to get your tickets way ahead of time because I garantee that they will sell out at least for the first few weeks. Enjoy!
  11. QUOTE (ladirushfan80 @ Mar 29 2007, 02:31 PM) i think this movie looks awesome!!! Oh it is. In fact they almost screwed it all up about a month ago by wanting to release it as 2 separate features which totally defeats the purpose of a Grindhouse . Which in turn was making life utter hell for me and everyone here, But aparently it turns out it was just Tarentino bitching about Hollywood yet again . So they are still making it a double feature with trailers in between for movies that don't even exist directed by Rob Zombie, Eli Roth and others. Also you all should watch the Making of Grindhouse feature we are in the process of negotiating right now, it's amazing and it gives a good taste of the film. I'm sure it will be up on Youtube.com soon. I am expecting to be in a sitting posistion for at least 3 hours tomorrow morning http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c271/Deathcycle_617/news-grindhouse-book.jpg Ya I am excited!
  12. QUOTE (Jack Aubrey @ Mar 29 2007, 01:32 PM) QUOTE (Ya_Big_Tree @ Mar 29 2007, 02:13 PM) I am screening it tomorrow morning, I'll let you know if it kicks ass! (I'm sure it will) Here is the link to the new trailer for Grindhouse http://www.grindhousemovie.net/ Ordinarily I wouldn't mind this too much, but if you would have scrolled down just a tiny little bit, you would have seen this: http://www.therushforum.com/index.php?showtopic=23015 Yes I just noticed that. In fact I have posted in there already. But since it's dead, I decided to create a new one. Sorry I stole your thunder. I couldn't find it last time I checked, also the link wouldn't work. My bad.

  14. OH man who saw last night? George and Izzy. Yowsa!!!
  15. Rush was in a bathtub with Dream Theater and Mike Portnoy farted. Geddy loudly exclaimed, "Wheres My Thing!?!". "It is in Alex's double neck Gibson, which is not the greatest place to find a gigantic wildebeast. Neil said fear the snow dogs or they will kill your family, then outa nowhere came Kurt Cobain shooting heroin in the face. "Ow!" Neil ran screaming

    300 !

Finbar and I are seeing it tonight!!!! I am so pumped for it as I have been wanting to see this movie since I saw the first Teaser Trailer last year!
  18. It may be somewhat overrated but I love Dreamline.
  19. Finbar and I saw them live! They were great. I think I like Strapping Young Lad more though. Either way Devin Townsend puts on a great show! Had a better time at the Devin Townsend Band concert though, but that wasnt because of the music.
  20. Why is The Big Wheel still here?! Be gone!!
  21. OH YEAH! LET me at them!!!!
  22. ARGH I am going to miss it this week cause I am going to the Premiere for The Number 23. Meredith wont die, it will probably be like what they did for the last season of The Sopranos when Tony was in his coma. She will be in a coma and eveything else will go on with her like that. They alluded to this already because she was in the "dead world" and they showed her this way. The same thing happened in The Sopranos. She will eventually wake up and it will be business as usual. But all of this is IMHO. Grr.. I am gonna have to watch it on-line or something on Friday. grr.
  23. The Big Wheel is terrible, why wont it go away already!
  24. Neurotica is an amazing song! I can't believe that it's gone. The Big Wheel is crap! I vote for it again!
