  1. Ok, nevermind. I see other venues are doing it too. Sorry Rush! Doh!
  2. So, I stumbled on the platinum ticket classification when looking at the Buffalo show. In case you havn't seen it, the band has set aside lots of awesome seats. They are being sold at a higher price but I think a pretty fair price. Last evening there were seats available in the 2nd and 3rd row for the $450 to $550 range. Yes, it's expensive but the same seats from scalpers are over a grand.....some well over a grand. But then as I looked at other shows I realised that no other venues are offering this platinum plan. Why? It's a great idea! Real fans can actually get a great seat without having to pay scalper prices. And the band gets the money instead of the greaseballs. Anybody know why they wouldn't just do this at all shows instead of just one? It's so frustrating. I can't figure out how such a popular band that's been in the game for so long can't have people around them making sure that the ticket buying experience for such a loyal fan base is the absolute best it can be. It's a real shame.
  3. The Rush formula has been the same since I first saw them on the 2112 tour, except they are the whole show now and the show is longer. They make a new record. They tour on that material. They play some well received songs from previous tours. They take time off. (more since they have gotten older) They make another new record. They tour on that new material etc... My routine has stayed the same too, like most real old timer fans of all the band does. :codger: I am at the record store the day the new album comes out. I absorb all the new material, trying to figure out what the hell they are doing this time. Then I get it, and I love it. Then they tour and I am there, hoping to hear those new songs. I have heard the older ones plenty. Let me hear the new ones. They deliver. Then throw in some classics cuz I like them and I love the crowd reaction. They deliver. Then hit me with some surprises...the so called deep cuts. They deliver. Then I wait for the new record. (waiting a lot longer these days but...) I'm at the store on release date and here we go again! I think they have done an amazing job of staying true to their roots, their style (or lack there of), their formula and their fans. And to have done it for 40+ years now? Unprecedented, period. The best band ever! :rush:
  4. I don't have time to read this entire thread to see if this has already been said.... Old fan here. All tours since 2112. 41 shows total. Like most fans from my generation I have been at the store on release day every time, slept out for as many as 3 nights for good tickets etc.... You old guys know what I'm talking about! After 41 shows in 35 years, the new stuff is what I go to see now! You have been going since Hemispheres! Why would you want to see the same older stuff over and over? For me, every tour, I wish they would lose some always played stuff and play more new stuff or rarely played stuff. I get my wish this tour!
  5. QUOTE (Workaholic Man @ Jun 21 2012, 03:46 PM) It truly IS their finest work in a very long time. Every Rush album these days is their finest work in a very long tome cuz it's a very long time between albums!
  6. QUOTE (Todem @ Jun 8 2012, 02:15 PM) Agree and disagree. I will never...ever sit at a Rush concert. Ever. As far as the i-phone/cell thing. It is insane. I can't take this crap anymore. True story. I took my wife to Roger Waters last year for The Wall. We had 10th row. We were stoked. We love Floyd (yeah I know not the same) and she had never seen any iteration of Floyd ever. Show begins...man with his two 20 something daughters in front of us proceeds to hold his phone up right when the lights dropped. Through the first song...through the second song. That was it. No way I paid 300 a ticket to have some 50 something year old putz hold his f***ing i-phone up over his head blocking my wifes view all night. I bent over into his ear and said "Listen buddy could you please put your phone down?" You are blocking my wifes line of sight and we are trying to enjoy the moment...not relive it on facebook with crappy video. He put's it down. Not 15 minutes later....back up it goes for another song. At that point I bent over and whispered in his ear that if he did not put that f***ing phone down not only would I call security over but I will shove it right up your ass before they get here. Phone went down for the remainder of the show. Now phones? That is an invasion and obstruction. Not people. I had a 6th row seat pretty much ruined by one of those a-holes at one of the Rush shows I went to last tour. Never again! I WILL confront anyone that does this in front of me from now on.
  7. QUOTE (Mara @ Jun 12 2012, 08:58 PM) Because I don't need to burst into tears at a Rush concert. Shoot, I do almost every time!
  8. Like other positive comments....what a song! Like so many of us fans, Rush and Neil's writing has been by my side through so much. But, while I loved the last few records, they havn't provided me that kind of emotional attachment. This album, in particular this song, is doing it for me. It's so great to feel it again after so long. I never thought it would happen. Anyway....The Garden....Wonderful lyrics. The strings, the piano, Ged's wonderful singing and that solo from Alex. Just amazing! You can really hear his David Gilmour influences. Well done boys! The only thing that scares me about the song is it almost sounds like a goodbye. I know it's not but...
  9. QUOTE (trenken @ Jun 6 2012, 12:35 PM) QUOTE (canadianice @ Jun 6 2012, 12:34 PM) QUOTE (trenken @ Jun 6 2012, 12:31 PM) Its a good song on this album, but man I dont know what people are hearing. I can think of a ton of songs I like more than this, but thats my opinion. Those vocals in the middle breakdown section kill me, they should have just put some effects on his voice or something to mask how much its degraded and maybe I would feel better about this song than I currently do. Like the effect in the middle of Jacobs Ladder, anything to clean his voice up would have been fine with me. try flushing your ears, good chance they are plugged with wax. Apparently this guy has no idea what a good singing voice is. THIS sounds like good singing to you? Jesus. Actually, as I listened to this a few times I began to think this may be the best "singing" Geddy has ever done! He has been a great vocalist for decades. He has really tried to become a better singer for the last 15 years or so. With this performance on The Garden, he has succeeded.
  10. Well, well, well.... I was so disappointed when I heard the 2 different versions of the 30 second clips. That's a mistake I will never make again!! All I can say now (still early in the game with 3 listens) is WOW! Really liking what I hear and the way the album flows. And to end it all with "The Garden"? I thought the days of Rush bringing me to that level of emotion were long gone. What a pleasant surprise! We'll see how time affects my opinion but I sure am excited now and hoping for LOTS of Clockwork Angels on the tour!
  11. QUOTE (Phantom @ Jun 3 2012, 05:14 PM) There's no instrumental on this album Too bad as far as I'm concerned. But okay. Still my favorite band! The clips?....meh. But we shall see the whole package soon. I'm holding out hope. I must say though, after this long of a wait plus all the hype, I was expecting to be blown away. The clips did NOT blow me away but like I said, we shall see.
  12. QUOTE (Gilbertk @ Jun 3 2012, 05:00 PM) QUOTE (Weatherman2112 @ Jun 3 2012, 04:09 PM) Instrumental? If you're talking about what I think you are.. they were just referencing the musical aspect of each piece, lyrics and vocals aside. No, I was wondering if there is no instrumental on this record...
  13. QUOTE (Tony R @ Jun 3 2012, 04:09 PM) QUOTE (Weatherman2112 @ Jun 3 2012, 10:09 PM) Instrumental? No, not really.

Why do you say "grunge" I don't hear any grunge in this? Yeah, I was struggling for the right way to describe what I was hearing. Maybe Grunge isn't it. It's Alex's sound these days that is bugging me. I am not a guitar expert so I don't know the correct way to describe it but he seems to like this "heavy", distorted sound ever since his solo album. What bugs me about it most is how it translates to the stage. My 1st Rush show was the 2112 tour. They sounded sooo good in concert back then and really through the 80s. Their concerts these days don't sound as clean and I think it's because of this "heavy", distorted, "grungy" sound Alex is in to. Even the older songs sound "heavier" these days. To me it makes the concerts sound too blown out and all the wonderful subtle stuff gets lost. Just so you all know, I'm one of those old guys that NEVER says anything bad about my favorite band. This is a first. It's not a huge deal. I love them. I will buy the new record and probably end up loving it. I will see them at least a few times on the tour. I will always support them as long as they want to play! "Dirty" is perhaps the word you were grasping for... I say "angry" sound. Alex is avenging the 80s synth dominating and drowning out his guitars Yeah well from his viewpoint it might be dirty. It's more of a saturated sound than a dirty sound in truth. Over saturated....yes

  17. QUOTE (Tommy Sawyer @ Apr 19 2012, 04:44 PM) QUOTE (Weatherman2112 @ Apr 19 2012, 05:30 PM) First post in a long time..... Headlong Flight? Eh.....it's ok I guess. Yep, it's heavy. And while that's all exciting, and the fact that more new music is coming is also exciting, to me "heavy" has not been what I have loved about Rush over the years. It's cleanliness. I always loved how amazingly well they play their instruments and how clean, crisp and tight they sounded as a 3 piece band on their records and live. Now, for some reason it's all about sounding "heavy". Almost like proggy grunge. It's good. I like it. But I must say, I like Caravan more. If the rest of CA sounds like Headlong Flight, that's fine. I'll like it and see them live like I always do. But I sure do miss the "cleaner" sound that showed off their amazing playing. Alex? Alex? shhhhh ??? Do you want HYF part deaux? While I must say I really loved HYF and the synth stuff, no. I'm more of a Hem, AFTK, PeW, MP, Signals guy. That's the kind of "clean" sound I was referring to.

  19. Great pics, thanks. I was a little in front of you with a similar view. Your post reminded me, there were a LOT of cameras there. Before the show security was letting anyone that wanted to walk right up to the front row and take pictures with full size cameras, flashes, the whole 9 yards. I saw MANY people with full size cameras snapping shots and making videos throughout the show with absolutely no security stopping them. While that may sound cool, everyone had their cameras up high trying to get the best shots. And the video shooters kept those cameras up high for many minutes at a time. I had one of those guys in front of me. I get it. He wanted to have a video to post on youtube and he wanted a life long memory. Can't blame him but to get that memory he blocked my, and many others view of the stage with his camera. There I was in the 6th row but often couldn't see what I wanted to see because he was shooting his video. He was only about 5' 9" tall but was 7 feet tall with that camera. I'm not saying don't do it folks but man, have a little respect for the other people around you that also spent a lot of money to be there and also want a great memory. Keep it short or keep it lower. ok
  20. Just drove 2 hours home from the show so pretty beat. I'll try to make it short. This was my 39th show with my 40th coming up in Vegas. I had great seats (7th row, Alex side) but I didn't have great expectations for this show. I figure the Vegas show is the one, right? 40th show? Vegas? Of course! Well, was I surprised. This was easily in my top 5 Rush shows of all time. The guys seemed nicely rested and were in top form. Sure, there were a few small mistakes but they were all just so loose and having fun. Even Neil was loose all night, joking with Geddy & Alex as well as the crew behind the scenes. He had funny reactions for all the pyro stuff. I don't think I've ever seen him like that before. And man, was he playing well. He was loose and powerful, quick and smooth. It was the most impressed with him I have been in a long while. I think he really enjoyed himself tonight. Must have charged those batteries during their break. Alex was the best I have seen him...maybe ever. He was VERY funny and interactive/flirty with the crowd but his playing was just wonderful. The solos on Camera Eye and La Villa were enchanting. Geddy was in great form too, having fun and as usual, playing like Geddy plays. But his singing was really something. I've heard rumblings here lately that he may be done etc... Well I can tell you, based on tonight's performance, he's definitely NOT done! What a treat to see and hear! All three of them really seemed to be loving what they were doing tonight. The sound mix was great where I was and Howard was spot-on with the lights tonight too. The whole team was firing on all cylinders. It was truly an amazing experience for me, and I didn't think that could happen to me again. Their shows always blow me away...they are so talented and I love them but something very special was going on tonight. It was one of those magical shows! Okay...must sleep now. Edit: Oh, and Neil's back on ear monitors. No headphones tonight at all.
  21. QUOTE (Ancient Ways @ Apr 23 2011, 01:41 PM) [/quote] QUIT STALKING NEIL WEATHERMAN! How's it going? I was in my mid 20's. I couldn't help it! I'm all better now I'm doing ok, thanks! How about you?
