  1. What does this even mean? You mean the site that breaks it down? I guess you are just saying that people post inaccurate info. Still wondering what an "authentic time signature" is. haha
  2. Here is the Ocmulgee River in Georgia. This is the exact road and spot where Neil stopped to dunk his head in the river on a 98 degree day.
  3. Yep...this confirms my answer was right. 5/4 time from 3:49 to 3:58. Not that I needed confirmation:)
  4. It is 4 bars of 5/4 time. One bar almost sounds like 9/8 because of where the accents are, but it's straight 5/4 time. Hope this helps. I actually used to play this song in a band. haha
  5. For sure. We're talking 30 years ago in some cases. .....and yet the same picnic tables where still there under the tree by the small Church in Georgia. A bicycle ride Neil did about 30 years ago. That is so awesome. Some things never change.
  6. I had some time on my hands today, so I have always wanted to look up some of the old bicycle routes that Neil mentions in the Roadshow book. He describes towns that he rode through and sometimes mentions the exact roads and highways. It's kind of fun to cruise along Google street view and see everything Neil saw on those famous 100 mile bicycle adventures. In Georgia I found the Ocmulgee River where Neil stopped to dunk his head on a 100 degree summer day and on the same highway even found the Church that Neil stopped at(he stopped there on motorcycle too with Michael) to rest on a picnic table under a tree. I also followed some of his routes through West Virginia and Ohio. Also followed a route from Fort Myers to Arcadia, Florida. Neil really loves those little two lane highways it seems. I do a lot of long bicycle rides myself so it was kind of neat. I imagine Neil really had to do a lot of map studying was back in the mid to late 80's. This was long before Google/Mapquest and all the GPS. Kind of funny that so many of us would have killed to meet Neil back then and there's a good chance he was bicycling back country roads outside the major cities we were seeing him perform in. haha I grew up in Noblesville, IN(home of the famous Deer Creek venue) and I know Neil has mentioned that he had bicycled into that venue before. If only I would have known. Doh! Anyhoo, just wondering if anybody else has ever googled locations Neil mentions on either his bicycle or motorcycle adventures? By the way.....I do realize that Neil would cringe if he saw this thread and probably assume that I am one of those stalker guys
  7. Too bad the music didn't measure up. SnA remains one of my bottom 3 Rush records. It has it's moments.....but alas.
  8. Depends on what you mean by "later work". IMHO, the lyrics from Moving Pictures to Hold Your Fire beat out everything that preceded or followed. .....yet some of my fav lyrics come from Presto...... War Paint is just brilliant. Most people don't delve deep enough to get all the symbolism and metaphors in that song.
  9. To me they were more bland with the storytelling/ fantasy lyrics. My fav lyrics are the human condition/experience lyrics. They are more relatable.
  10. Some Freewill riffing at the end. Nice! Gilbert can play that Rush stuff in his sleep.
  11. Most of Rush's shirts are so ugly these days. Just personal opinion of course. I have tons of tour shirts I actually like, but I don't like most of these. The HYF one is good though.
  12. And worse a total bore. I doubt many people would read his books if he weren't the drummer for Rush. Who cares? He is the drummer of Rush and also managed to become one of the most well known and popular drummers in history. Call him a bore. Call him rude. Call him whatever. Doesn't change the fact of what he has accomplished.
  13. I live right near Indy, but never been a big race fan. If they start putting Rush graphics on the cars I might have a reason to go. haha
  14. Plus, do a Bottrill remix of CA record. He could work wonders with that great record.
  15. I stood at the top of the mountain.......and Alex played for me........
  16. I remember mowing lawns to get the early records when I was first getting into Rush. Couldn't wait to discover the next one. Every yard mowed meant another record. Never had so much fun mowing a yard:)
  17. They are kind of hard to find online, but I found a couple at a local tie dye/bong type of shop. I'm thinking about going back and getting one and framing it. Only goes as far as SnA live. Here is what it looks like: http://www.posterrevolution.com/poster.cfm/rush-album-covers-music-poster-print-24x36
  18. That is so unusual. I wonder if the band has had complete songs that were written and rehearsed that they scrapped. Other than the real early stuff.
  19. Halo Effect definitely falls into this category. I know lots of people love it, but it sounds like a SnA leftover to me. I don't hate it. but I don't love it either. One of my least favs on a very strong CA record.

    Signals!

My #3 Rush record. I love the two records that came after Signals as well. HYF was the start of the slight dip for me.
  21. Cool. They have a similar coaster at Cedar Point called Top Fuel Dragster. I haven't got to ride it yet, but I have ridden Millennium Force a ton which is frequently #1 in the coaster rankings.(or used to be anyway) Six Flags Great Adventure was the home park of the guy from my original post that took his own life. I only know him from youtube, but I think he visited that park like 70-80 times in one Summer.
  22. The guy I was talking about in my original post was from New Jersey. Do you know Tom's River? I think that is where he went to High School. RIP Kevin.
  23. Would love to go to both. I have been to what many consider the coaster capital(Cedar Point) and also the legendary King's Island(King's Dominion sister park) because I live in Indiana.
  24. It's posts like these that make me think that the members of Rush underestimate sometimes the power that their songs have on fans. On a side note: Just wondering if you have been to Busch Gardens? I've always wanted to go to that park. Stay strong and best wishes on all your struggles:)
  25. Great story. Thanks so much for posting. I'm really surprised Alex went into the Neil tragedy stuff. Alex ended up having to wait a few more years after your story before Rush reconvened. On a side note: I find it really hard to find reputable pictures anywhere on the internet of Selena and Jackie. Not being disrespectful, I've just always been curious what they looked like. There is a brief picture of both I believe at the end of Neil's Work In Progress instructional video, but the picture is kind of taken from the back with them sitting on a bench or something.
