  1. HOLY TOLEDO!!! YOU MADE MY DAY!!!! Can't wait!! When is the release date? Do you have the other rare packaging for the 10 year anniversary?? Featuring 6 different cardboard slipcases of Mr. White, Mr. Pink, etc, etc. SWEET! Earl
  2. Quick trivia question Rush addicts! What does the SRO mean for the Canadian Company that got RUSH off the ground??
  3. Hey Tang! Eric Johnson is GREAT!!!! An amazing guitar player. I have seen Eric twice. Once is a small club and then on the first G3 Tour! Do have "Bloom?" Very mellow but I totally dig it!! Earl
  4. QUOTE (I Get High On You @ Aug 23 2006, 12:57 AM) Obviously, Alex Lifeson is a tragically underrated guitarist. He was inexplicably left off Rolling Stone's Top 100, whereas musicians like Kurt Cobain and Joni Mitchell (were they even guitarists?) were included. Perhaps the editors had temporarily forgotten what list they were compiling? Or maybe it's just 'cause it's Rolling Stone. Anyway, I love Alex Lifeson's style, but I wouldn't rank him as my very favorite guitarist (though he is in my top ten or twenty). My all-time favorite guitarist is Stevie Ray Vaughan (see avatar). Listening to his solo work makes me want to cry (think Little Wing, Riviera Paradise). He plays so cleanly, with such finesse and skill and sense, but he also pours his heart and soul into every note. Nothing is wasted. And as a bonus, he has a killer bluesy voice. As a side-note, I'd like to pay my dues to jazz greats like Wes Montgomery, Kenny Burrell, and Pat Martino. You are all-too-often neglected! So, what say you? There is no doubt that Stevie Ray Vaughan is the best guitarist ever! He is even above Jimi Hendrix! No one else could ever cover Jimi like Stevie Ray. R.I.P. SRV Rory Gallagher is another one of my favorites! Talk about underrated! The Irish Stevie Ray Vaughan!!! BIG GUNS!
  5. Hey Rulz! A classic post if you ask me!!!! Nice "Asia" reference!! I am sorry I missed this awesome post last night before I hit the sack! The movie is awesome!! I would not mislead you in anyway!!! Go get it! Earl
  6. I will make this short you guys. I just watched "Lucky # Slevin" tonight. My father watched it before me tonight. I got a phone call from him as the dvd was spinning in my player. He called me to tell me that he loved the movie. I thanked him and told him that Wendy and I were about ready to watch it. Timing is everything. This movie may be a bit slow but it is pure genius. Bruce Willis is AWESOME!! Watch out for the "Pulp Fiction" watch!!! Homage is a good thing and this is a great movie. I know you will love it!! Rent it or buy it!! By the way!! Be careful if you rent from BLOCKBUSTER!! I learned that they still edit their own movies!!!!! I remember when they did it to VHS but they also do it to dvds! Get this movie, it's AMAZING!!! Sincerely, Samuel L. Jackson
  7. I used to LOVE Dream Theater back in the beginning. Even "When Day and Dream Unite" is pretty good. You have to love the instrumental, YSTE JAM!! MAJESTY! I always thought that were the torch bearers of the modern progressive rock movement. Today I still think they are. I have seen this band 12 times. Enough is enough unless I get the urge to go some year. I loved "Images" and "Awake" and even "Metropolis" is outstanding. "Falling into Infinity" is solid but I prefer the other three records mentioned above. Didn't care for "Turbulence." Maybe I should listen to it some more. "Train of Thought" was very good. A "back to basics" if you will. Very Metallica influenced. "Octavarium" is their best release in a long time. Excellent record. I openly rip Mike a lot on here on purpose. There is no doubt that he is one of the best drummers on the planet. Unfortunately Mike suffers from L.U.D. That's "Lars Ulrich Disease." Gigantic EGOS really do bug me. Oh well, I still respect him as a player. Cheers! Earl
  8. Sorry!! I should have been more clear. Not on my actual birth in 1968. Just on my birthday.
  9. Nice try! The answer is "FLY BY NIGHT!" My avatar!!! Earl
  10. That really sucks! I LOVE EVIL DEAD, EVIL DEAD II and ARMY OF DARKNESS!!! Nothing is sacred!!! Lame play!! "Arm"y of Darkness!!! No hope...................................... Nothing is "scary" anymore! John Carpenter's Halloween is now a play on Broadway!! NO WAY!!!! "Fraudway" is more like it!! Sincerely Michael Myers
  11. A very simple game!! Just testing your knowledge on the Rush record release dates!! Can you name the Rush record that was released on my birthday?? I was born on February 15th in 1968.
  12. QUOTE (deslock @ Sep 10 2006, 07:49 AM) This has been well documented in FAQs, USENET, wikipedia, etc. I bought this CD when it first came out (in 1994) hoping it would improve Signals' somewhat muddy mix. It does, though not as much as the remasters version that came out in 1997. I prefer the Weapon with the missing verse. I have to agree! I have been listening to the gold SIGNALS cd a lot more lately and it is better! If you really think about it, it is the "ORIGINAL MASTER RECORDING," hence it was done once the right way. Terry and the boys wanted it that way right? Who knows who said that they should repeat that lyric over is that spot? I think it is great without it!! Anyone who wants to get one, they are on eBay at the moment. Some are really pricey, yet a few are affordable! "If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice!!"
  13. I find it very interesting that 13 people think that "Rivendell" is the best song on the "Fly By Night" record. While it is my least favorite, I still enjoy it! Is that an oxymoron?
  14. It's nice to know that there are 10 other people who love "Alien Shore" like me!! Cheers!
  15. Hey Schro! That is awesome about your son! CONGRATS!! I would check it out for sure then!! Cheers! Earl
  16. Right on! Glad to see a few of you know what I am into at the moment!! Fishbone does RULE live!! Hey Moonraker! The best place to start in the beginning for sure! You must get the first three albums! They are still in print and very cheap sealed!! The FISHBONE EP IN YOUR FACE TRUTH AND SOUL These are a must! If you dig those, then go for the rest!! Cheers! Earl
  17. Shame on you PuppetKing! Hey Strangiatoman!! Funny stuff, but I agree if they did play "Losing It" live a lot of Rush fans might start dropping dead from joy!! The gold cd virus has been in me for 20 years. I am lucky to say I have the MSFL catalog, the CBS gold catalog, MCA gold cds, RCA gold, Atlantic gold, and the DCC gold catalog. Obviously you can tell it was a very trendy thing for the Record Companies to do. As for me? A sucker is born every day!! "HOOK, LINE, and THINKER!" It would be very costly and time consuming to start collecting gold cds but they are out there. eBay of course but the prices are going to be very high!! Used record stores are still the way to go. Rapsutin Records in the East Bay charges around 30 bones a pop for a gold cd! Sometimes 20 clams! It is worth it although it is true, the aluminum remasterd cds do have more pop and better highs!! It sucks being an audiophile nut! That is why I also have been buying Japanese cds instead of American pressed stuff. Say what you will, but I have tested the sound difference and it is slightly better. Alos the Japanese stuff has bonus tracks, better art work quality, the cardboard mini lp sleeves and extra goodies inside like stickers and mini tour books! RUSH is a perfect example of that!! I tested an unremastered USA Signals against an unremastered Japanese pressing and the Japanese version sounded better. Better bass. Warmer tones. The Signals gold cd sounds better than an unremastered Japan pressing. But an American remaster does sound better than the gold. I have compared my Japanese remaster to an American remaster and the Japanese pressing is still slightly better. So there you have it!! The rare Japanese remaster of SIGNALS is the best sounding disc on the planet!!! GO GET THE GOLD RUSH FANS!!! MOVING PICTURES 2112 SIGNALS ON!
  18. This has always intrigued me. As an audiophile nut, I collect the 24 KT gold cds as well. One day I bought the MFSL (Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab) gold cd of "Signals" and I put the disc in my cd player. Well about half way through the song "The Weapon" I realized that a verse of lyric was missing!! Sure, the missing piece was in the first part of the song, but on the second time around the verse: "And the things that he fears are a weapon to be held against him." was gone! It's a trip to listen too! You are waiting for Geddy's voice to kick in and it's just a bunch of keyboard patterns! Please tell me I am not alone and some of you out there know what I am talking about! I was tripping back then. I even called Mobile Fielity Sound Lab to find out why that verses was cut out? They had no clue. They said that the "ORIGINAL MASTER" must have been missing that vocal part and that Terry Brown thought that Geddy should repeat that lyric. So the tapes are different from the one that got pressed for the masses!! I have no idea! Crazy though!! Anyone else want to discuss this or am I just............ By the way "Losing It" is one of the greatest songs ever made!! I would have a small stroke if they were to pull the cobwebs off of this song and play it live on the next tour!! I am sure they won't pull Ben out on the road to play the violin part so I don't care if they sample it and play it over their system to the big video screen in the back!! "LOSING IT" live would make my year!! Damn! We are still stranded in 2006! I am already thinking about next year!! ON! Earl
  19. I know don't laugh. I didn't want to watch this movie at all. My wife did, so I gave it a shot and I actually really liked it! It's that Spelling Bee flick sponsored by Starbucks. Laurence Fishburne and Angela Bassett are in it! Also that dude who was "Booger" in the classic movie "Revenge of the Nerds" is playing a serious role in the picture as the principal of the school! "Aleekah" is one smart little girl! "Be cool of be cast out..........." I am sure you catch my drift! A solid flick. Intellectual, and very dramatic to boot! Earl
  20. I remember reading on the RUSH section of the Forum about the influences of reggae with a few RUSH songs. Primarily "New World Man" and "The Enemy Within." "The Police" were also mentioned! Stewart Copeland is one of the best drummers on the planet!! How can you deny the talents of the "HI-HAT KING!" Speaking of Stewart Copeland, has anyone heard of his side project many moons ago called "Klerk Kant?" Excellent record!! Why it is not on cd is beyond me!!! Well now to my topic title! Does anyone dig FISHBONE? I love them man! From the EP with "Party at Ground Zero" to "Lyin' Ass Bitch" to the record "In Your Face" and then "Truth and Soul" to "The Reality of My Surroundings" and "Give a Monkey a Brain.................." and even "Chim Chim's Badass Revenge" are EXCELLENT!! Has anyone ever heard of "Skankin' Pickle?" Sort of that same melting pot genre! Killer ska, fused with heavy metal, reggae, soul, rap, punk rock and funk! The debut album "SKAFUNKRASTAPUNK" is great!! The others are sweet as well! This thread could sink like the Titanic, but hey I love these two bands!!! SKA ON! Earl
  21. QUOTE (Slime @ Sep 7 2006, 08:12 AM) styfdalgapgup Simon told you: fight decently always, let girls apply properly. Grace Under Pressue iatfmtwpickcigit You are slick my friend! GUP! I did that on purpose and you nailed it!! Earl
  22. Holy Toledo!! That is an easy one! Bye bye "Rivendell!" Down the River and into Hell!
  23. ijduhycswattiye I just don't understand how you can see why a terrible temper is youthful energy. styfdalgapgup
  24. "By-Tor" all the way!! As for "Fly By Night," I have always wondered why RUSH never plays that song live anymore. Personally I would love to hear it. I didn't see RUSH until the "Grace Under Pressure Tour" when I was 16! I have seen them 34 more times since. I did hear that Neil hates that song, and that they will never play it live again. I hope that is not true!! Does anybody know the truth?? Earl
