good songs that are easy to play..
thesweetscience replied to xredsectorx's topic in Making Modern Music
QUOTE (guitarman_2112 @ Oct 27 2006, 10:54 PM) thanks everybody! i've really been working on my soloing. i always want to "rush" into them to fast instead of taking my time and learning them note for note. i bet if i slowed down and learned note for noe, i'd be able to learn all kinds of stuff. i just have to train my self to slow down... There is a program called transcribe that is good for this type of thing. I am sure its not the only program of its type but its the one I use. You can load audio files and play them at slower speeds which really helps in figuring out solos that you don't have tabs for as well as allowing you to get the pattern down and increase the speed slowly. I usually start at 80% and try to go up to 110%. Once you can do a lead 10% faster than its done on the recording you almost play it in your sleep. Transcribe also allows you to drop channels reducing the bass and vocals and allowing you too pick out hidden parts and just hear the guitar parts better in general. -
Signature guitar for $3000 ?!?!?!

I agree! Definately not worth 3 grand. -
Did anyone mention "What Women Want". I thought that was a pretty entertaining movie, and unless I missed it, nobody has mentioned "Pretty Women". Its not really one of my favs, but i can't believe none of the NWW have mentioned it! Its one of my wifes favorites.

Althought most will say practice, practice, practice, which is a start. I think some people are just born with a gift and JP might be one of those people.

I have been working on Subdivisions which I got from Kirks downloads. I am doing it more to teach myself how to record and mix music. I will post it when I get it to sound decent enough. Hey Launchpad can we put stuff like that on that site? I thought it was just for original stuff.

I was pretty young the first time I saw Halloween. The music really got me.

1-2 hrs a day during the week and 3-5 hrs a day on weekends. Of course there are some days when I cant keep that regiment but I try to stick too it.

Well i am really just a hobbyist. I enjoy playing and I like to record myself so I can objectively critique my playing. I dont really have a studio and I am looking for something simple, not really professional.

Ok I got an emu 1212 sound card from a friend and I am looking for a set of studio monitors. Anyone have any recomendations. What are you guys and gals using? I would like to stay in the $300-$600 range.

QUOTE (CygnusX-1Bk2 @ Sep 27 2006, 03:18 PM) I would venture a guess this is named after Merle Travis, one of the first pioneers of the solid body electric (around the same time as Les Paul). He influenced Chet Atkins who was known for finger picking style. I think your right!

They annoy me too no end. Its the fastest way to get me too turn off the radio.
-
Like RushfanNlv said practice is the key. Travis picking is basically picking a bass note with the thumb while playing a rhythm with the other fingers. The Trees and Broons Bane would both be examples of Travis style picking.

I thought The Masked Rider was a very good read. I think Neil is a very good story teller and the way he injects his own philosophical views about the things he sees and the people he encounters, makes for interesting reading IMHO. I also liked Ghost Rider and Traveling Music but have not had a chance to read Road show. It's all a matter of preference but I think if you liked TM and GR you will probably like MR.

Captain & Coke -
Thanks for the comment rushfan! After giving some thought I think my budget will probably lead toward something like a line6 Flextone III. If I go with the Peavey VK and then get a cab and effects I would be looking at around $1300 and I would like to stay under a grand. If I ever find one to try out maybe I will change my mind. TSS

I would also like to thank KirkDS for posting his drum tracks. I had a blast playing along with them today and I even put a mic on my amp and did a little recording which was the first time I have ever done that. I had much fun today. Thanks again for sharing. TSS -
Can anyone offer any comments about this amp? It is very affordable for a tube amp and gets good reviews on Musicians Friend. I am skeptical though because of the price and have yet to find a local dealer with one in stock. Any thoughts?? Also if you have played it what cabinet, effects, etc... was used?
