  1. Worked for King Crimson too. I think it would have been great but there's still quite a bit of this story we may never know because they seem to want to keep it that way.
  2. Don't really dig the first two songs A Nightmare To Remember and A Rite Of Passage but I really dig the rest of it and the bonus disc. But again, this album doesn't push the Dream Theater envelope very far.
  3. "Slight mistake." "Confusion" is not exactly what this has caused.
  4. What a nice and thoughtful sweetener. Wonder if it's personally signed or a facsimile.
  5. At the very least I'm hoping for more hooks and melody.
  6. I feel bad for Mangini but it doesn't really matter to me. I just hope they lose their by numbers book. Would have been great if both Mikes were in the band, but hauling around two kits on a tour probably don't make good business sense, but it sure would be awesome to experience.
  7. What a week. First Portnoy rejoins Dream Theater and now this.
  8. This is Dream Theater announcing their retirement without Dream Theater announcing their retirement. Was a lot more shocked a few days ago than I was in 2010. Don't much care about this one way or the other. Whatever works. Feel bad for Mangini (one of the good people.) I was surprised when Charlie got fired, but understood after hearing him live. I was gutted when Kevin Moore left, but understood after hearing Chroma Key. I was over the moon when Derek got dumped and Jordan joined the band. Mike Mangini was the right drummer for the band in 2010 even though I'd have preferred Marco. I'm hoping for something ground breaking but I probably shouldn't be. I doubt there's going to be a paradigm shift at this point. Portnoy probably adds another $50 to my next Dream Theater ticket. If they venture out of their comfort zone, it will be totally worth it.

  10. May not be a problem as the dates are already set up unless there are licensing issues with Live Nation or someone else.
  11. That must have been special. Passed on his last few dates playing the Irdium mostly because it cost more to get to New York these days than than ticket prices there.
  12. Anything with his name on it. Wish I'd seen him live. Almost did in the years before he died. But you figure guys like that should be around forever. Like Jeff Beck. IOU Live in Japan 1984 is sitting in a small pile of CD's I'd like to get to this weekend.
  13. Since Geddy is reading it pretty much makes this essential too.
  14. That could go either way. This eases him back into the touring mindset and he may be doing some recon about the feasibility going forward. Also this is a lot more structured than his last book signing tour which was very informal. If he doesn't like the way the machine is working these days he could just stop.
  15. In general, Dream Theater used to play Rush songs that either were never played live or had not been played live in decades.
  16. Haven't ruled that out. Certainly not an immediate priority as I continue to enjoy what I have.
  17. I have to think that's unsustainable. Unless some venture capitalist wants to impress his new girlfriend!
  18. Will toss this (Rush - Signals (West German original "atomic" face CD some writing on disc face $8) in for free with Moving Pictures.
  19. Might be. I'm sure Geddy has a lot of fine memories of that place. Might even be the only venue on this tour that the band ever played in. It is kind of a homecoming celebration. If I could choose, that would be where I'd go. No brainer.
  20. I fought with this for a week and decided the 35 minute Q and A was almost worth it for me so I compromised with a cheap seat even though that was slightly more than I wanted to spend on this. Star Trek convention vibe might be fun too. Kind of looking forward to it now which I suppose means I've chosen wisely.
  21. I was there that night. Might be my favorite Rush show that I witnessed. Tough call. Didn't care about the four-hour drive home. I was flying that night after thinking I'd seen my last Rush show five years earlier.
