Well, to be honest, it's the album that kicked off the dreaded synth era, so I'd go with Rush's first 80's album Permanent Waves.

Obviously all three aren`t on board with retirement, so somebody needs to grow a spine and get Neil back on tour! {edited to be kinder} :P

Which it clearly is. Wut ?!!? How can ya'll say PeW is an 80s album when it was clearly written and recorded in late 1979? Considering the topic and placement in the song, I always thought it was intentionally left in as a 'happy accident'.

It should be clear that Neil returned from his hiatus because he 'needed gainful employment' {paraphrased from his statements} Neil continued to record and tour because of contractual obligations to produce xxx amount of recordings, ending with CA (signed with Atlantic/Roadrunner).

You're assuming Alex wrote all the guitar parts. Those arpeggios are all Alex, and probably most of the chord progressions. But Geddy is a riff guy, and I'm willing to bet he came up with many of those. Certainly Geddy helped write tunes and riffs (he is quoted as the one coming up with the intro to Closer to the Heart). Whatever riffs Geddy wrote, I'm sure Alex's musical energy, feel and style made them his.... Besides, we still have the monster solos in The Necromancer (or anything off of ATWAS) ...no killer solos, no song :D
