  1. Have to admit it's getting pretenious hearing Rush's music characterized as pretenious.
  2. Looking forward to seeing this, ashamed to say never got around to watching original"The Jackie Robinson Story" staring the man himself... With all accolades justly deserving and with the violent ignorant racism Robinson had to endure in his first year with the Dodgers. We should also remember Larry Doby the first black player in the American League with Bill Veeck's Cleveland Indians, just month's after Jackie broke the color barrier. But not like Jackie who was first integrated through the Brooklyn farm system. Veeck had a different approach and had Doby go directly from the Negro League to Cleveland of the American League. (The day he signed with Cleveland he was in the lineup against the WhiteSoxs )Many think because of this Doby had it much worse then Jackie trying to adapt in the segregated American League. And had to endure the same level of blatant prejudice by opposing teams, fans and team mates.... But without the focus and fanfare of the media simply because he was not first in the Majors. Hall Of Famer, 7 time American League All Star helped the Indians win there last World Championship in 1948. (first black player to hit a home run in W.S.)
  3. So multi talented and his endless array of characters at the spur of the moment, just hilarious great humor. Jonathan annual telling of The Christmas Carol on npr was a holiday tradition I always looked forward to. Sad news he will be truly missed... :(
  4. Lincoln, Daniel Day Lewis just amazing actor really has cornered the market on historical drama. Last Of The Mohicans Gangs Of New York There Will Be Blood. All great movies and true to there time setting. Lincoln is no exception Daniel really shows the 16th president as a living breathing human being and not just a figure of stone and myth. Worn and carrying the weight of being pulled in multiple crises of the Civil War and fighting the embittered politics for the passage of the13th admendment along with dealing with personal tradgedy and wife who was "unhinged".. Lincoln somehow was able to rise above and keep his course( with some shady political dealing & favors along the way) and became our greatest president.
  5. All Shook Up is one of my favs also!!!
  6. The last time a Cheap Trick post came up, I asked what happened to Bun E. Carlos.(think it was there Conan gig) Answer I got that Carlos had back pain problem that kept him from touring with the band on a regular basis. Looks like it might be more like knife in the back issue.. :sarcastic: Seen great double bill 1981 or 82?? Richfield Coliseium UFO & Cheap Trick..
  7. I'm tired of it but understand it's a staple( pad locked nailed with a rail road spike) of there live performance...
  8. Hare Trigger... :guitar: :haz: why not!!
  9. Bruce S.- EW. I hate his music, but, no lie- anytime my husband hears even a split second of a Bruce song, he immediately goes "OH MY f*ckin GOD TURN THAT SHIT OFF!!! MY EARS!!! MY EARS!!!!!!!!!" My husband has a deep, deep hatred of Bruce's music. Just saying the name "Bruce" to him makes him shiver violently lmao. BRUUUUUUUUCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :haz: :7up: :poke:
  10. Maybe it would be more accurate to say " over praised" or I'm annoyed and pissed because to many people think there special .... They think there the cat's pajamas!!!! Well I hate them and damn it I'm going to tell you I do!!! Bon Jovi, White Snake, don't know many up to date "modern" stuff the kids listen to, all I know surprise the hell out of me when they appear on Conan or Fallon. What a contrast listen to them on mix radio and see these bands on tv looking like aged hippies with beards and bell bottoms .. yes i'm old and i don't care for todays music... it's over praised :codger:
  11. I thought the idea of touring( excluding of course R30) is to showcase NEW material from new album release. Not really a NEW concept... New x3 = :rush: :P
  12. I'm open minded enough to enjoy that!!! Some Rush fans can be to much on the defensive and overly sensitive. Now that i think about it RTB might be a little to cheesy Tom Sawyer would be cool to hear in a Public Enemy reunion onstage with Rush. Why not it's suppose to be a celebration have fun!! :7up:
  13. Robyn Hitchcock & The Egyptians: Globe Of Frogs Reminds me alot of Floyd's Syd Barrett
  14. Blah, blah, blah complicated methodical process.. BS,,, Influence & quality is really not that difficult to research. Guess what, I'm a rock critic also so guess I'm over qualified and "know to much" Professional rock critic silly, like they somehow know better then the general public. It's all just a matter of opinion and being open minded enough to at least appreciate and respect a band or artist, even if there not your personal favorite.
  15. Strength still holds up well, played it in heavy rotation daily when it first came out. There first full length album Declaration i'd have to say is my favorite with the acoustic guitars and rousing Dylanish bombastic anthems. (btw seen The Alarm open for Dylan ,Blossom Music Center they stole the show far as was i concerned. although the crusty old hippies didn't give Alarm a chance and booed them there entire set.) Change was the last real good Alarm album with there original lineup, didn't care much for the commercial pop "Rain In The Summer Time".. Raw pretty good , liked there rendition of Youngs Rockin in the Free World :haz: Signed The Twist man...
  16. Boy it's hard to choose, The Odd Couple, The Out Of Towners (original of course) The Sunshine Boys... Many others Neil Simon has such a vast body of work but those three are probably my favorites.. err make it four just remembered Max Dugan Returns.. :P :outtahere:
  17. Years ago Henley was a guest speaker at my high school alma mater charitable event for Walden pond and a music awareness program for students. Don was suppose to give a half hour to 45 minute presentation. Instead he was there for only ten minutes and new paper reported he was rude and acted annoyed. Saying he had other obligations and couldn't stay.
  18. Not B.T.O/ and or Rush was no fan of theres.
  19. Really he does? Why? Discussed on TRF several years ago so the exact detail on why is vague at this point. But someone that was involved with music industry posted at record company party which Squire attended, Rush was played on the sound system. Chris i guess complained and went on how much he disliked Rush..
  20. It's the Cleveland time machine dvd footage mostly with a few fragments of clock work. B)
  21. My guess is Thinking Big might presume Waters is a Rush fan cause Pink Floyd close to the same old school prog concept genre as Rush was? Although Rush and in particular Geddy stated Yes and Chris Squire huge influence and a fan of there music. Chris hates Rush... Don't know what that has anything to do with the subject but thought i'd just throw that in! :P
  22. Jimmy Page definitely is, I remember reading that bio on Led Zep" Hammer Of The Gods"? the author at one point said something like" Page had particular praise for the dreaded Canadian power trio Rush" Also there's a youtube clip where Alex & Geddy discussed talking for a long while backstage in Toronto with Plant and Page right before Robert & Jimmy where just about to start there concert.... I never heard anything about Roger Waters being a Rush fan, and really my bet is he's not just a hunch could be wrong.
  23. Yea more CA tourbooks will be available on Rush.com.! (I hope)
  24. Don't forget about Gregg Zaun the former Jays catcher...had Limelight playing as he would go to the plate for his first at bat . A tribute to Geddy who was often seated just behind Home plate at the "then" Skydome. Future Hall Of Famer- Omar Vizquel huge Rush fan also.
