  1. I've only read the first three chapters that were previously downloadable. Kind of "meh", but I'm sure I'll eventually read the whole thing. I agree about the forced Rush references, but also think that we (hard-core Rush fans who frequent these forums) are a bit hyper-sensitive to those kids of things. It would be interesting to see how non-Rush fans react to this. My real question for this group is this: has reading CA The Novel changed your thoughts and/or appreciation of CA The Album? If you don't like the book, do you find that dislike creeping in when listening to the CD?
  2. QUOTE (rushgoober @ Sep 5 2012, 10:12 PM) What the hell are the Prog Awards? This was my first thought too. I'm always happy when Rush wins something, but... Just curious - how are these awards chosen? Is it an "online peoples choice vote" kind of award? You know, the kind that Rush fans always flock to to push the band to the top? Or is it more of a "panel of experts" and industry vote kind of award?
  3. I'd be shocked if ANY of those songs made the set list. Personally would love to see Kid Gloves...but not holding my breath.
  4. QUOTE (okbyme @ Sep 5 2012, 02:59 PM) See below from the venue. Is there really no opening band? SWEET! Jim Thank you for your inquiry. The RUSH show is scheduled to start at 7:30....doors open at 6:30. At this time we do not have an opening band listed for this show. ENJOY! With regards, The Verizon Wireless Arena Rush shows have been "An Evening With" with no warm-up act since the Test For Echo tour in 1997. Sound like this may be your first show. If so, enjoy! You're going to love it.
  5. QUOTE (GeddyRulz @ Aug 27 2012, 03:20 PM) QUOTE (The Mighty Dudad @ Aug 27 2012, 02:30 PM) QUOTE (GeddyRulz @ Aug 27 2012, 08:39 AM)QUOTE Meet-n-Greets, How does this happen? Win a contest through a radio station, or work for one. I used to work in radio, so that's how THIS happened: So is it true that if a radio station gets, say, 10 pairs of M&G passes to give to listeners, they really only give away 2 or 3 pairs and distribute the rest amongst the staff? Come on now...time to come clean. It will make you feel better. Not true. I was one of only three people from Clear Channel who met the guys that day. Meanwhile, I know we gave away several "meet and greet" passes as contest prizes. Far more listeners got passes than station employees. Believe me. I no longer work for Clear Channel and actually have cause to DISLIKE them, so if I were to lie I'd be predisposed to lying in the opposite direction, to make them look worse than they are. But it didn't happen that way. Things happened (mostly) on the up and up. (The one "cheat" the station did: a pair of front row tickets was randomly given away to a listener, who was led to believe he'd earned them by beating me in a Rush trivia contest. He didn't. I had come up with the trivia questions, and after correctly answering several of them , I was instructed to take a dive.) Yeah, I figured as much. I was just busting on you a little.
  6. While I've not taken the plunge yet myself, my wife has worn earplugs at past Rush concerts. She swears by them...says they cut the volume to a tolerable level for her, and more importantly cut out much of the crud and gives her a much "cleaner" sound.
  7. QUOTE (Mr Rush @ Aug 27 2012, 05:54 AM)Find out where the queu for the Meet and Greet inside the venue. The line usually forms as soon as the doors open and bring cash. Usually you'll find someone willing to give their pass up who's met them before for $500 in cash. Some of these fans get them every tour because of the people they know and think twice about it when someone waves cash in their faces. That's how I did it. Hmmm...$500 is lot to lay down for a 10 sec photo op and a quick "You guys are the best" mumbly introduction. Personally, I'd rather put that money towards an upfront ticket where I can spend 3 hrs in close proximity to the band doing what they WANT to do (play music) and opposed to what they HAVE to do (M&G). Now, if I was to win a M&G pass I'd be there in a heartbeat...I just don't see me spending extra bucks for the priviledge.

  9. Yes it did indeed Rock. My first (and likely last, based on the $$) FRONT ROW Rush concert experience! http://www.rushisaband.com/graphics/ti/full/5968.jpg http://www.rushisaband.com/graphics/ti/full/5966.jpg http://www.rushisaband.com/graphics/ti/full/5970.jpg

  12. While it wouldn't surprise me if CA is their last full-fledged release, I truly thought they were done in 1997. Anything since then has been a joyful bonus to me.
  13. Since I'm seeing them in Chicago on Sept 15, I only have to bury my head in the sand for a week to avoid spoilers. Not confident that I'll be successful, but that's my goal.
  14. Moving Pictures tour, 1981, Glens Falls Civic Center, Glens Falls New York. I actually didn't go as a fan, but was working security at the event. I was only 16, but had connections at the venue so was able to "work security" for most all events there. I recall it being a great show, but my most vivid memory was more job related. I was assigned to the mixing board/lighting control board area on the floor. The risers that the gear was set up on weren't high enough for Howard and the sound guy to see over the heads of the folks on the floor, who were all standing on their seats. I was asked by the band's "people" to go row by row and ask everyone to not stand on the chairs. Care to guess how that went?
  15. So I'm a drooling, earwig eating Koala bear, eh? Very nice! Not sure where all of this is going, but I'm along for the ride!
  16. QUOTE (1-0-0-1-0-0-1 @ Aug 13 2012, 03:03 PM)QUOTE (losingit2k @ Aug 13 2012, 03:49 PM) QUOTE (1-0-0-1-0-0-1 @ Aug 13 2012, 02:36 PM) Musically, "T4E" is a very good song. Solid riff, good arrangement, great guitar tones. Lyrically, it's pretty dated. Reality police shows like "COPS" were becoming all the rage, and we had just endured the OJ Simpson "showcase trial on TV" the year before, and those events and the trends they started were the inspiration for that song's lyrics. The same can be said for "Virtuality" and its internet commentary. Listening today, it feels very dated. I picture the boys auditioning songs for a setlist, and passing over these two because of their overly topical lyrics. I don't think we'll hear them live again. Lyrically, they're both very "17 years ago." Like others here have said, "Time and Motion" would be my pick to hear live. It still holds up pretty well. Oh there are "Showcase Trials on TV" all the damn time. Every year there some new Showcase trial on TV. Soon we'll have the one for that Pretend Psycho who comitted the Theater Massacre in CO. The courts should just do away with that whole insanity defense. Regardless, RUSH should play "T4E" live again. They play TSOR what song has more dated lyrics than that? Unless he means Satelite Radio? Does he mean Satelite Radio? Showcase trials and reality TV are established "entertainment" now. They're not new like they were in the mid-90s when Neil wrote about them, which is what made those lyrics interesting -- back then. "TSOR" is less topical than those two T4E songs, IMO. People have always begun the day with music, sometimes with a DJ. But now, for many people, they're on satellite radio or an iPod. I don't think the art with integrity theme is very dated. Plus, no matter how you interpret the lyrics, "TSOR" is a must-play Rush classic, and has been played on every tour for the past 30+ years. Can't say that about ANY song from T4E. Complete agree. BTW, Mr. Admin, I just noticed your sig banners/images. Being touched by autism, Down Syndrome and Crohn's Disease is difficult enough, but layer being a fan of NY sports team - especially the f'ing Yankees - on top of that? Damn, man, that is truly a bad break.
  17. The kimono is a real steampunk-themed kimono. Hermy did an amazing job photoshopping it into the Rush stage set-up. The original picture that I found is here (looks like some kind of steampunk clothing/custome shop). http://ageofsteam.files.wordpress.com/2011/07/steam-kimono.jpg

Although it would be cool if they brought back the Kimonos, there is no proof that it is true. There is too a photo. http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d153/avplanners/SteamKimono.jpg http://ageofsteam.files.wordpress.com/2011/07/steam-kimono.jpg

  21. Personally, I think that this is a song that just hasn't aged very well. Of all of their old stuff, this one really sounds dated. If they're going to bring something back from that era, I'd love for it to be "In The End".
  22. Eligible or not, it looks like something happened this week, if it jumped from 70-something all the way back up to 16...unless I'm completely misreading this.
  23. So, the question is...to Spoil or Not to Spoil? I'm seeing them in Chicago on September 15th, a mere 8 days after the NH kick-off. I'm pretty sure I can wait eight days without giving in to temptation, so my plan as of now is to go "dark" on the 7th and try to remain unspoiled until the 15th. Given my track record on this kind of thing, I give myself until about noon on the 8th before I cave...
  24. LOVE this song. One of my top 15 Rush songs, and has one of my favorite NP lyrics: "A fawn-eyed girl with sun browned legs dances on the edge of his dreams"
