  1. Long time member here, I don't post much these days but thought I would offer my 2c. I don't think Rush will formally announce a "farewell tour" per say, but if they did so (in some fashion) I would love to see them book up Massey Hall here in Toronto for a string of say 8-12 shows over say 2-3 weeks :eyeroll: . It solves (resolves?) many issues re: the touring grind for all concerned, fans included: It's in Toronto, where it all started It's where Rush recorded their first live show (full circle) Intimate venue, somewhat stripped down stage setup isn't a bad thing Zero travel / wear and tear for the group, roadies and crew (10minute drive for Ged and Alex !) Advance notice for fans and good for the city (tourism!) Concert Blu Ray and would have a TON of footage to put together the best of the best performance-wise Did I mention it would be in Toronto? I've seen 2 shows at Massey Hall (was a tad too young to see Rush play there); Iron Maiden in the mid 1980's and Steve Miller in 1989 I think it was. Fan-freaking-tastic sightlines and acoustics from first row balcony ! Doubt it would ever happen but one can dream and I think it would be just a fitting tribute for the band and for the city. Tickets would cost a ton but it would be well worth it to see them play there. Some type of ticketing policy / ID would be great also to stop or prohibit all the damn online resellers / scalpers. Cheers !
  2. Long time member here. I don't post often but check in weekly to see what the community is talking about and whatnot. But I gotta throw my 2c in here. Anyone upset, put off or even pissed ( as some of you obviously are) about Neil not wanting to interact directly with you or other fans... what is wrong with you? Seriously. You already know, being a fan (or not) that he has stated multiple times he is shy, doesn't dig "hero worship" and has had SEVERAL stalker-type incidents yet still you moan about it. Respect the way the guy is sheesh. He writes intimate books you can choose to read. He blogs every few months about his life and what he and the band have been up to. He has shared more about himself than 99% of any other artist/entertainer I know of. The only possible explanation is some self-serving sense of entitlement some of you are completely oblivious in recognizing and acknowledging. This is kinda sad and says more about yourself than your immature illusion he owes you, or other fans, something more.
  3. I don't consider myself an old fart... yet, but I too grew up in the 70's where the marketing machine shifted slightly. To me, and I have always maintained this, the biggest shift was MTV where the music became secondary to the visuals. An entire generation was brought up "looking at music" as opposed to what I remember seeing in the 70's which was concert footage. Would Michael Jackson, Madonna, Eminem or Lady Gaga be even remotely as popular as they became without the music video? While American Idol and all these spinoffs might be fun (I watch none of them), I can't help but think it just continues to reinforce and place focus on the individual as opposed to the actual musicians. Add to it the quick instant gratification factor, not earning the fame and being handed a recording contract and, well, it's just sad. Lastly I can say while having all my music on devices and digitized is incredibly convenient, again an entire generation will never HOLD an album, read the liner notes, the producer, where it was recorded, etc.. It's just a file to so many people, it's not tangible so appreciation kinda goes out the window for many. Music is in bad shape overall.
  4. I stopped worrying about Rush being inducted at least 10 years ago. It is no longer about Rock and Roll and hasn't been for many years. The criteria makes no sense, otherwise Rush and a handful of well deserving bands would have been in long ago or shortly after their eligibility year. Just look at some of the artists that have been inducted: The Bee Gees Blondie Madonna Run-D.M.C. ABBA Talking Heads Bob Marley Hank Williams Michael Jackson All of the above played ZERO rock and roll. The remotely closest thing to R&R are Talking Heads and to me they were pop / alt all the way. Those are just the inductees and if you look at recent nominees it gets really, really sad. I'm not going to search on them but I know two in recent years made me do a Geddy "head slap" : J.Geils Band and LL Cool J. A two hit wonder and a rapper. Lame. Anyways I wouldn't sweat it. The universe is unfolding as it should and I hope Rush are never invited and if they are, I would love for them to decline politely, of course, as good Canadian lads... not to be spiteful (no, no, that's not the way to go) but just to reinforce what people have known for decades now, that their music stands on it's own and they don't need any awards, adulation or affirmation.

    neils tossing

Neil misses plenty of sticks, but is all good. I've come to realize over the years that it's not whether you actually catch the stick... it's that you are "trying" to catch it
  6. Highly doubtful it was due to filming. After all, the number of vids being posted for this tour are staggering and Rush know its going on. My bet is someone was really pissing off their neighbors or acting unruly which was impossible for Alex to miss, so being the "least busy" guy he can take a moment to express his feelings and/or signal sidestage to deal with it.
  7. Have a friend who can't make the show so I need to sell one of the two pairs at face value I have for Saturdays gig at the ACC here in Toronto. These are hard tickets bought during the LiveNation Pre-Sale. Details: Section 121 Row 4 Seats 3 & 4 Face Value = $ 243.00 Section 108 Row 12 Seats 17 & 18 Face Value = $ 282.00 I'm a long time member who's in a jam so if you or anyone you know wants decent seats at face please contact me and do NOT reply here as I may not have access to the net most of the night and into tomorrow morning but will check msg's a few times if possible. Cell is best way to reach me: 416 473-9588 (call or text). I would really prefer these be picked up and not have to deliver them. Thanks all
  8. The "goods" cannot be delivered if people's safety are at risk. I see you have some interesting points in your arguement, but I cannot see how your wants and needs qualify a lawsuit. Bottom line is purchasing tickets for any outdoor event, even stating rain or shine, comes with risks the show may not go on as was the case here. And wanting your money back now to see them next week in Toronto makes you sounds entitled and selfish. My 2c.
  9. QUOTE (cygnus_thegodofbalance @ Jul 8 2010, 08:20 PM)QUOTE (ByTor2112 @ Jul 8 2010, 06:42 PM) This is exactly why I chose the ACC instead of the Molson Amphitheatre when the Toronto dates were announced. I've seen them twice down by the lake; TFE tour was beauty night and S&A was decent but the sound was a bit flaky. You really are at the mercy of the weather for outdoor shows obviously and if its nice out, there's nothing that beats it provided you get a decent sound mix depending on where you are sitting. Rush are an arena band imho... always have been and always will be. Stage lighting is perfect, sound more consistent, no wind or weather to delay or postpone the show. Sorry those of you you missed this Chicago gig, but you know the boys will return when the schedule permits, unless too many people ask for refunds and they cancel it outright (highly doubtful). Well, I don't know whether to take you seriously or not. For one, they didn't play Molson on the T4E Tour, and secondly, the night they played there for S&A was gorgeous. So my memories of the TFE concert and my ticket stub don't exist, is that right Cygnus? You are an idiot, do some simple research next time before discrediting yourself.

  11. Rescue Me is a great show, and might have been the best new show from last year's dismal offering. Season 2 premieres (up here in Canda) on Showcase August 30. Can't wait
  12. Losing It is a fine song imo. Great lyrics and the middle portion is a musical tour de force
