  1. Since having been offline for most of this new year I haven't been able to give my condolences to you who've lost a loved one, a beloved pet, a job, or family memories in form of lost photos. My sympathies to all of you, and wishes of strength.
  2. It was actually yesterday, but I survived colonoscopy! What I was very scared of weeks and weeks in advance was the preparation and if I would feel sick, not the colonoscopy itself. I'm so thankful that the nurse changed the medicine for PicoPrep, it didn't cause any side effects at all, and I actually felt great when I got to the hospital. I was given a slight sedative. I didn't want any painkillers, and luckily there was no pain. It was astonishing to watch the insides of myself from the computer screen, they reminded of the vaults of a medieval cathedral. After seeing this I have a much greater appreciation for my intestines, and I think I will consider more of what I will give them to digest. Everything was fine, the doctors wanted to find out properly why I keep getting anaemia. A gastroscopy will take place in late May, but I've had it done once and I know I'll survive it this time as well. But for now, I'm enjoying being allowed to eat again now that the colonoscopy is over.
  3. Thank you all for such kind words and wishes! I'm so glad I found this forum and you great people.
  4. I agree. I still keep thinking about her a lot. Rest in peace, Lorraine.
  5. It's hard to imagine the destruction and sorrow facing the people of that area. A lot of help will be needed. Well done with the donation.
  6. I've recently worked quite often all through the weekends. After yet another busy weekend I had a day off today. The sunshine attracted me for an hour-and-a-half walk near the coast. The spring is on its way. I saw willow catkins and further along the bay a common buzzard (Buteo buteo) flying high above the forest. It soon landed somewhere near the field and started a lound, incessant cry. Common buzzards are not so common here in Finland as they used to be. Seeing birds of prey is magnificent although I love watching birds in general.
  7. As someone living in a northern country with pretty similar circumstances that you, Bahamas, described I truly acknowledge the importance of your voluntary work. One can end up in life-threatening trouble in a vast forest in winter conditions in no time without those vital skills you keep teaching. The classes sound really invigorating. Great work!
  8. WÖYH! Four Finnish professional musicians making great music and having fun. They are hilarious live and have some legendary sing-alongs. The strange and poetic lyrics, in Finnish, skilfully describe themes like sci-fi, nature, space journeys, robots, crabs playing chess, penguins fighting people, and of course many adventures of their totem animal, a seagull (lokki). It's no news that the guys, especially the two brothers, have enjoyed Rush among many bands and styles and then created something special of their own. A sense of humour is a must with WÖYH! W28Y8: (This song makes me cry almost every time. It is about insects, far away galaxies and the shortness of life.): 3: (A darkish fantasy tale that features many central characters present in the albums.) Lokki: (A WÖYH! anthem sure to make the crowd sing out loud. Lokki tells about a heroic seagull exposed to dangers.)
  9. Yes, it is. Gave it some practice time today as well. The whole album is a killer.
  10. Albert King's classic track Born Under a Bad Sign. "Duck" Dunn's legendary bass line and the ultimate Stax pocket blow my mind every time, even after twenty odd years of listening to the title track and the album. The bass line, simple as it is, is a real test timewise, soundwise, and in how you listen to (especially) the drummer.
  11. I've really become addicted to oatmeal porridge topped with fat-free cottage cheese and baked apple yogurt or blueberry soup. This set is usually my breakfast but since I didn't have time to eat it this morning, I got the urge to enjoy it now half past midnight.
  12. Brothers Osborne and the whole band showcase their top notch musicianship on Tiny Desk. John is one heck of a guitar player. Full blast!!
  13. My fiance just found this video on YouTube today. A few years old, it features one of the most popular musicians and songwriters (and a great bass player) in Finland, Anssi Kela, paying tribute to the Professor in 2020. In the description Kela writes in Finnish: "Probably no other drummer has generated as much air drumming to the world as Neil Peart. And it is undeniable that without air drumming the world would be a much worse place. My tribute to the great master." Rest in peace, Neil.
  14. The Quiet American by Graham Greene. Breathing as a Tool for Self-Regulation and Self-Reflection by Martin et al. A comprehensive and practical approach to various aspects of how we breathe and how breathing is affected by our mental state and social environment. https://www.karnacbooks.com/product/breathing-as-a-tool-for-self-regulation-and-self-reflection/37753/?MATCH=1
  15. I hope you're feeling better soon, and can take a sip of soup and juice as well.
  16. Take your time. Being a member on TRF is like running a marathon, I'm not expecting quick responses from anyone, including myself.
  17. Thank you. It's really been a while. I was thinking about you especially today at the gym as I listened to Van Halen & Van Halen II during the workout. Great stuff.
