  2. Because it's a very influential album (on hard rock and 80's metal), musically groundbreaking for its time and it has "Child in Time". Iron Maiden and probably Judas Priest are more influenced by "In Rock" than Paranoid or any 70's Sabbath album (Dickinson would confirm that). Not to mention the great Ritchie Blackmore on lead guitar!
  3. If nothing else polls like this generate a lot of healthy debate. I think that whether you think of a band as iconic or not to a large degree depends on your age (an old codger like me tends to gravitate towards the 'dad rock' bands lol), but it also depends on where you live. I suspect that there are bands that people here in the UK revere that don't mean as much in US or Canada, and vice versa.
  4. Oops .... I saw this too late! How did the interview go? Amazingly well. Steve was very talkative, and gave me a lot of insights into how the band works with Bob Ezrin, setlist choices, Dixie Dregs, Flying Colors, his shows with G3...and we even spoke about soccer a little bit, when I told him I was Brazilian. We could have chatted a bit longer, but I didn't want to overstay the welcome. I'll post the link here when it's published! I look forward to reading it Rod!!
  5. My guess is Yes will stick it out till the final three or five, long past my personal favorite, Queen, and even longer after another personal favorite, Genesis. Folks around here can only take so much camp. Good bands ... i will certainly not be voting either of them out.
  6. Starting to get down to the 'big hitters' now. Yes might be vulnerable so my immunise vote is on them.
  7. Though I'm crazy about their music, they seem pretty cool to me. Here they are surprising a classroom teacher, who is a big fan. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZarODPrhLKQ I see a guitar. :) I like Night Visions but the rest are meh to dreck for me...and if I hear "Believer" again... jeez I don't know what I'm gonna do These guys remind me of a hardware store ............ a bunch of tools!
  8. My thoughts exactly Lorraine...... the years have flown in.
  9. Congratulations to all you 'old timers'!! I hope this forum lasts for another 16 years!!! As a 'Johnny come lately' I have really enjoyed my time here.
  10. I don't mean to criticize you, but The Who is a really shocking omission from your original poll, since they are one of the most revered classic rock bands and they're popular among Rush fans. IMO they deserved to be in the poll much more than bands as Toto, Skid Row and Heart. http://www.therushfo...1-closes-72820/ Right. Imho, The Who should be in the same conversation as Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and other such big guns. Agreed. A legendary band who have influenced so many people. But, they are somewhat taken for granted.
  11. I like but don’t love Priest and the Scorps but I’d put both over nearly every band that’s already been eliminated. And I’d put them over some of the bands that still remain. I’m not saying you should make another thread though. Lets get this one finished first! Who would be in it besides bands in these threads + Priest and Scorpions? If we are talking about Priest and Scorps perhaps it could be an 'Ultimate Metal Band Poll'?? That would dump a bunch of this list. Now who else could we include?? ... Slayer, Megadeth, Savatage, Rammstein ?????? You like Savatage?! It's hard to find fans of them anymore. I turned Segue and Mick into fans on here. They wouldn't last long unless us four voted to immune them each time. I don't think Rammstein would fair too well since it's only the people in Europe who care about them. I don’t know about your Rammstein comment because I definitely remember some dudes back in high school and uni (in Florida) really being into them. I don’t remember any TRFer liking them though so yeah I doubt they’d last very long in a multiple band elimination round thread. Problem most people have with Rammstein is that they sing in German. If you can get past that they are a very good (but a bit different) band.

I haven't listened to them for a while but back in the day I was a big fan of guitarist Criss Oliva before he was tragically taken from us - My favourite of their albums are Gutter Ballet and Hall Of The Mountain King. A very underrated band!As for Rammstein ... not to everyone's taste but I like them a lot. They were due to play Belfast in June until Covid-19 had it's say ..... but concert rescheduled for June 2021 so we retained our tickets.
  13. I marked it as 'like it' ..... at his age i had no problems at all with the vocal performance. Unless he starts drinking the 'milk of paradise' he ain't gonna hit those big notes again. Like us all (well.... me anyway!!!) he is no spring chicken!! But as a final Rush studio album all three of the band could hold their heads high.

Slayer, Megadeth, Savatage, Rammstein ?????? Savatage and Rammstein would get their asses kicked. Nothing against either band but when they’re up against Priest, Megadeth, and that sort, they just won’t get far. I guess there’d be the end result of where they stand on the list which could be interesting I just threw those names out there ..... even seeing who would be on the starting blocks would be interesting!!! Lots of potential choices from old school to the new boys on the block. (When you get to my age any band past 1980 are new boys lol!!!) :codger:

  17. Yeah it may break the record for Hollywood actors and TV personalities. I've lost count. We've had Kirk Douglas, Ian Holm, Max Von Sydow, Brian Dennehy, John Saxon, Stuart Whitman, Robert Conrad, Olivia de Havilland, Wilford Brimley, Reni Santoni (Harry's partner in Dirty Harry), Carl Reiner, Vera Lynn, Tim Brooke-Taylor, Terry Jones, Roy Hudd, Nicholas Parsons, Ennio Morricone, Fred Willard, Jerry Stiller, Jill Gascoine, Richard Herd, Michael Angelis, Tony Scannell, Lyle Waggoner, Shirley Knight, Derek Fowlds, Jack Kehoe, Christopher Beeny, Regis Philbin, Kelly Preston, James Lipton. And then music stars, Neil Peart, Little Richard, Lyle Mays, Peter Green, Bob Kulick, Brian Howe, Kenny Rogers, Steve Priest, Bill Withers, Paul "Tonka" Chapman, Pete Way, McCoy Tyner, and there's probably a lot more I forgot. Just looking at your list makes it seem even worse! A respite for a few months would be nice!
