  1. This year is getting a bigger and bigger crock as it goes on. I know how devastating this will be to some of you massive VH fans here on the forum. The world of rock has just lost a superstar.
  2. Treeduck, have you heard much about the upcoming Albert Bouchard remake of Imaginos called Reimaginos? I have just seen the first video for Black Telescope on Youtube and was somewhat alarmed at his rather radical reworking of the song! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OkeqjOoNeVM&feature=emb_logo Considering his heavy involvement in the material which made up the original Imaginos and parts of Secret Treaties I was kinda looking forward to this. It will be disappointing if all the tracks are as severely reworked as Black Telescope.
  3. Since the onset of CD and nowadays digital I think artwork has taken more of a backseat. Back in the days of vinyl, part of the whole experience (for me anyway) was to get home, pop the album on and browse through the sleeve material while listening. However subliminal, i think that if the album was in any way good, a real good cover gave you a 'feel good' factor and made the music somehow feel better. Two albums spring to mind ... When I purchased the Alice Cooper albums Schools Out and Billion Dollar Babies I remember wallowing in the sheer luxury of the sleeves whilst the music blasted out. My memories of those events are not just music based, but a combination of music and art. (Having said that, they were damn fine albums and damn fine sleeves!) On a different note, in those days you would typically browse through tons of album sleeves in the record store and maybe a cover would just catch your eye (and your imagination!) Here's an example I experienced back in the day. It was 1975 and a 17 yr old zepphead was browsing the albums with cash burning a hole in my pocket. This caught my eye .... ... I lifted it and just knew by looking at the cover that this had to be a great album. UFO were pretty much an unknown act then so the artwork was already influencing me. Needless to say, I purchased the album and began a great musical love affair with UFO. So I do think artwork back then in certain ways influenced your perception of the music to a degree.
  4. It was a big change in direction from I and II and divided a lot of people. Personally I love some of the more folk/acoustic based tracks and it represented a big turning point in their career in my opinion. Some great songs, development in style and a truly iconic sleeve all lead to a memorable album.
  5. Sometimes a phobia can be the result of an overactive imagination! For me with heights, when I am in a situation say, close to a cliff, I imagine tripping and falling over it and tumbling down. Or, say I'm driving along a road with a high drop on one side, I imagine the car veering and crashing over. I can't help it ... the thoughts just come into my head and generate the fear.
  6. She was never really my cup of tea but a sad loss nonetheless. Unfortunately, like a few other rock stars, it appeared to be a tragedy waiting to happen. Taking it forward a bunch of years, Amy Winehouse mirrored this (right down to the age when she died).
  7. I chose one Rush album, Moving Pictures. Floyd,Yes,Tull and Genesis fight over the remaining 5 votes.
  8. I like some of Counting Crows stuff especially the debut album August and Everything After but overall The Black Crowes are better.
  9. It's all down to personal feelings ..... Zepp 4 is an obvious choice but for me, for many personal reasons, Physical Graffiti will always be close to my heart.
  10. A fine 'old school' band....... if you look at the 'what albums have you listened to today' thread you will see that I listened to one of their albums yesterday. Now, I am not afraid of loud music, but Burke Shelley is the only bass player I have heard whose sound actually felt like it was punching me in the stomach. I seen them a couple of times back in the day. If my memory serves me right the last time was in the Marquee London around the late '70s.
  11. Hey .... a fine band in their day ...... they even took the time to play over here in N. Ireland when most bands wouldn't touch us with a bargepole!!
  12. Generally I would rate Priest above Kansas .... however for this comparison we have Priest at their 'radio friendly' worst, and Kansas at their progtastic best so Kansas gets the vote.
  13. No probs Earl. I was meaning to start a Dead Daisies thread ever since Glenn Hughes and Deen joined the band. I have one of their other albums from 2016 with Jon Corabi but it sucks. I hate Corabi's voice, singing style and vocal melodies, and the songs are shit. I had high hopes with Doug Aldrich in the band but even he doesn't seem to step up, it's a meh performance from Doug. I could only stand to listen to it about 3 times. It's so bad that even when Glenn joined the band it took me months to dredge up the interest in it. Castronovo is another great upgrade too over Brian Titchy. I think the new lineup in a lot ways is a natural move - - I saw Aldrich play with Glenn Hughes in 2015 in The Limelight Belfast. They worked well together. (We were front row in front of Aldrich - deaf for a week!) - I then saw Aldrich with the Dead Daisies (Corabi on vocals) in 2016 again in The Limelight Belfast and he slotted in nicely. - So it's a kinda natural progression that Glenn Hughes joins the Daisies. (For how long is anyone's guess - he has itchy feet!) Bonamassa was good but I think Aldrich is a more natural metal guitarist and is a better fit. Castronovo is a great acquisition - a fine drummer It's a pity Mendoza is no longer with them - he is a super bass player and backing vocalist I can't really say much against David Lowy - he is now the only constant member and probably payrolls the band, so fair play to him. Technically it is probably 'his' band. By the way Aldrich is a really nice guy - we met him in Vegas (he was playing in the Raiding The Rock Vault Show) and he spent a bunch of time chatting and letting us take pictures. Met him again in Belfast and again he couldn't have been more friendly. Well with Glenn being a bass player they don't really need Marco, and Castronovo is also a great singer too, so if backing vocals are required he's right there. Here's a few bits of him: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FrF1WMe-ysk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x-nzo0MrMdw True, he is no longer required, but he was good while he was needed lol! Looking forward to the new album when it comes out.(Just veering off thread slightly, I got a digital copy of the new Blue Oyster Cult album last night - it will be on the Saturday beer 'n' music jukebox tomorrow!! :hail: :7up: :haz: :guitar: ... you need to imagine the last emoji without the actual guitar!)
  14. Like yourself, I have pretty much all this stuff in one format or another.15 sounds like a lot of choices but there were still a couple I had to drop. In general I have stuck with the 'tried and trusted' classics.
