  1. 125. "Nocturne", Track 11/13 (4:49), Vapor Trails (2002) Vapor Trails - Entry 5 out of 13 This is definitely one of the few tracks that they threw in last minute just for that beefy 67-minute CD length. Despite being a bit generic, it ends up being one of the most sonically interesting tracks on Vapor Trails; all three members embrace full-on energy, especially Geddy with his loud, pumping bass. Previously on my list... 131. “The Seeker”, Track 4/8 (3:27) - Entry 6/8, Feedback (2004) 130. “Ceiling Unlimited”, Track 2/13 (5:28) - Entry 4/13, Vapor Trails (2002) 129. “Test For Echo”, Track 1/11 (5:56) - Entry 7/11, Test For Echo (1996) 128. ”Halo Effect”, Track 6/12 (3:14) - Entry 2/12, Clockwork Angels (2012) 127. “Making Memories”, Track 6/8 (2:58) - Entry 2/8, Fly By Night (1975) 126. “The Speed Of Love”, Track 7/11 (5:02) - Entry 3/11, Counterparts (1993) 125. “Nocturne”, Track 11/13 (4:49) - Entry 5/13, Vapor Trails (2002) How is this album doing? 13. “Peaceable Kingdom”, Track 4/13 (5:23) - #164/173 12. “Out Of The Cradle”, Track 13/13 (5:03) - #155/173 11. “The Stars Look Down”, Track 5/13 (4:28) - #138/173 10. “Ceiling Unlimited”, Track 2/13 (5:28) - #130/173 9. “Nocturne”, Track 11/13 (4:49) - #125/173 I still have yet to uncover "One Little Victory", "Ghost Rider", "How It Is", "Vapor Trail", "Secret Touch", "Earthshine", "Sweet Miracle", and "Freeze (Part IV, "Fear")".
  2. 126. "The Speed Of Love", Track 7/11 (5:02), Counterparts (1993) Counterparts - Entry 3 out of 11 Usually claimed as the worst song from the album, this does seem like the generic outlier ballad from Counterparts. However, this one does highlight the album's sonics with Geddy's bass and the snappy drums; the clean Lifeson solo especially reminds me of mid-80's Rush. An under-appreciated tune. Previously on my list... 131. “The Seeker”, Track 4/8 (3:27) - Entry 6/8, Feedback (2004) 130. “Ceiling Unlimited”, Track 2/13 (5:28) - Entry 4/13, Vapor Trails (2002) 129. “Test For Echo”, Track 1/11 (5:56) - Entry 7/11, Test For Echo (1996) 128. ”Halo Effect”, Track 6/12 (3:14) - Entry 2/12, Clockwork Angels (2012) 127. “Making Memories”, Track 6/8 (2:58) - Entry 2/8, Fly By Night (1975) 126. “The Speed Of Love”, Track 7/11 (5:02) - Entry 3/11, Counterparts (1993) How is this album doing? 11. “Double Agent”, Track 8/11 (4:52) - #143/173 10. “Between Sun & Moon”, Track 5/11 (4:37) - #139/173 9. “The Speed Of Love”, Track 7/11 (5:02) - #126/173 I still have yet to uncover "Animate", "Stick It Out", "Cut To The Chase", "Nobody's Hero", "Alien Shore", "Leave That Thing Alone", "Cold Fire", and "Everyday Glory".
  3. 127. "Making Memories”, Track 6/8 (2:58), Fly By Night (1975), Fly By Night - Entry 2 out of 8 Oddly enough, out of all the Fly By Night tracks, this song has the least personality, even so less than "Rivendell". After the title track, what we needed was a cute little track about how much fun touring is. Still a great track with some powerful bass and what sounds like a southern-rock solo from Alex - but by the time you get to this track, you fully realize the rough edges the album has. Previously on my list... 131. “The Seeker”, Track 4/8 (3:27) - Entry 6/8, Feedback (2004) 130. “Ceiling Unlimited”, Track 2/13 (5:28) - Entry 4/13, Vapor Trails (2002) 129. “Test For Echo”, Track 1/11 (5:56) - Entry 7/11, Test For Echo (1996) 128. ”Halo Effect”, Track 6/12 (3:14) - Entry 2/12, Clockwork Angels (2012) 127. “Making Memories”, Track 6/8 (2:58) - Entry 2/8, Fly By Night (1975) How is this album doing? 8. “Rivendell”, Track 7/8 (4:52) - #154/173 7. “Making Memories”, Track 6/8 (2:58) - #127/173 I still have yet to uncover "Anthem", "Best I Can", "Beneath, Between & Behind", "By-Tor And The Snow Dog", "Fly By Night", and "In The End".
  4. Well, now you know what you have seen for the last 40 or so entries, you know what to expect.
  5. I am definitely giving Hold Your Fire more praise than most people do when ranking Rush songs (UCR, Thrillist, if you have seen those lists...), and the craziest thing to me was many showing that "Tai Shan" was one of the better tracks from there and there were many worse songs from that album than "Second Nature". I would've thought that you would've also said it would be surprising to not see as many Counterparts tracks appear, but I see that I slammed tracks that you favor instead and... well... this list is going to get awkward for you.
  6. 128. "Halo Effect", Clockwork Angels (2012) Clockwork Angels - Entry 2 out of 12 Seems to be everyone's choice for the weakest song on Clockwork Angels that isn't an interlude track ("BU2B2"). This is the shortest song, which appears as the last track halfway throughout the album, last track on disc one of the vinyl. An easy-sailing short track that very well demonstrates the orchestra the band implements within the album. It has less to write home about in comparison to the rest of the album, but if this is the real weakest link from Clockwork Angels, then it really displays how great of a last effort this album truly is. Previously on my list... 131. “The Seeker” - 6/8, Feedback (2004) 130. “Ceiling Unlimited” - 4/13, Vapor Trails (2002) 129. “Test for Echo” - 7/11, Test for Echo (1996) 128. ”Halo Effect” - 2/12, Clockwork Angels (2012) The next entry however... ;) How is this album doing? 12. “BU2B2” (#167/173) 11. ”Halo Effect” (#128/173)
  7. 129. "Test for Echo", Test for Echo (1996) Test for Echo - Entry 7 out of 11 Easily the weakest opener of any Rush album - this one just seems to drag along in comparison to everyone else (even the 18-20 minute opening songs really grab you in throughout!). It's totally a great song, though - fun lyrics and a great, heavy riff. Though it is easy to tell just from the first track where the direction with the album was going... there was no direction. Thankfully, there were better songs than this one off of this album. Previously on my list... 131. “The Seeker” - 6/8, Feedback (2004) 130. “Ceiling Unlimited” - 4/13, Vapor Trails (2002) 129. “Test for Echo” - 7/11, Test for Echo (1996) How is this album doing? 11. “Half the World” (#173/173) 10. “Virtuality” (#170/173) 9. “Dog Years” (#169/173) 8. “The Color of Right” (#152/173) 7. “Carve Away the Stone” (#148/173) 6. “Time and Motion” (#136/173) 5. “Test for Echo” (#129/173) There's going to be some hot takes for this album (if there hasn't been already)...
  8. 130. "Ceiling Unlimited", Vapor Trails (2002) Vapor Trails - Entry 4 out of 13 A pumping, straightforward rocker that follows the roaring opener "One Little Victory", a triumphant return to the music world. The main riff is oddly reminiscent of U2's "I Will Follow", but is still a banger. Previously on my list... 131. “The Seeker” - 6/8, Feedback (2004) 130. “Ceiling Unlimited” - 4/13, Vapor Trails (2002) How is this album holding up? 13. “Peaceable Kingdom” (#164/173) 12. “Out of the Cradle” (#155/173) 11. “The Stars Look Down” (#138/173) 10. “Ceiling Unlimited” (#130/173)
  9. I'm ready to start tearing people apart with my personal list :D
  10. 131. "The Seeker", Feedback (2004) Feedback - Entry 6 out of 8 While I still hold the opinion that this would've sounded much better if they recorded this in 1975 rather in 2004 where it sounds like Vapor Trails - this one is still a bit fun to listen to, even though they don't do much to improve the song at all. Tasty Lifeson riff. How is this album holding up? 8. “Seven and Seven Is” (#168/173) 7. “For What It’s Worth” (#161/173) 6. “Shapes of Things” (#156/173) 5. “Mr. Soul” (#151/173) 4. “Crossroads” (#145/173) 3. “The Seeker” (#131/173)
  11. This is how my list is holding up so far! Just about 25% through! If there's anything I can do to improve my future posts, let me know! 173. “Half the World” - 1/11, Test for Echo (1996) 172. “Anagram (for Mongo)” - 1/11, Presto (1989) 171. “Bravest Face” - 1/13, Snakes & Arrows (2007) 170. “Virtuality” - 2/11, Test for Echo (1996) 169. “Dog Years” - 3/11, Test for Echo (1996) 168. “Seven and Seven Is” - 1/8, Feedback (2004) 167. “BU2B2” - 1/12, Clockwork Angels (2012) 166. “Face Up” - 1/10, Roll the Bones (1991) 165. “Tai Shan” - 1/10, Hold Your Fire (1987) 164. “Peaceable Kingdom” - 1/13, Vapor Trails (2002) 163. “You Bet Your Life” - 2/10, Roll the Bones (1991) 162. “War Paint” - 2/11, Presto (1989) 161. “For What It’s Worth” - 2/8, Feedback (2004) 160. “The Way the Wind Blows” - 2/13, Snakes & Arrows (2007) 159. “Neurotica” - 3/10, Roll the Bones (1991) 158. “Hand over Fist” - 3/11, Presto (1989) 157. “Spindrift” - 3/13, Snakes & Arrows (2007) 156. “Shapes of Things” - 3/8, Feedback (2004) 155. “Out of the Cradle” - 2/13, Vapor Trails (2002) 154. “Rivendell” - 1/8, Fly by Night (1975) 153. “Need Some Love” - 1/8, Rush (1974) 152. “The Color of Right” - 4/11, Test for Echo (1996) 151. “Mr. Soul” - 4/8, Feedback (2004) 150. “Hope” - 4/13, Snakes & Arrows (2007) 149. “Superconductor” - 4/11, Presto (1989) 148. “Carve Away the Stone” - 5/11, Test for Echo (1996) 147. “Madrigal” - 1/6, A Farewell to Kings (1977) 146. “I Think I’m Going Bald” - 1/5, Caress of Steel (1975) 145. “Crossroads” - 5/8, Feedback (2004) 144. “Available Light” - 5/11, Presto (1989) 143. “Double Agent” - 1/11, Counterparts (1993) 142. “Scars” - 6/11, Presto (1989) 141. “Roll the Bones” - 4/10, Roll the Bones (1991) 140. “Here Again” - 2/8, Rush (1974) 139. “Between Sun & Moon” - 2/11, Counterparts (1993) 138. “The Stars Look Down” - 3/13, Vapor Trails (2002) 137. “The Big Wheel” - 5/10, Roll the Bones (1991) 136. “Time and Motion” - 6/11, Test for Echo (1996) 135. “Presto” - 7/11, Presto (1989) 134. “Second Nature” - 2/10, Hold Your Fire (1987) 133. “The Larger Bowl (A Pantoum)” - 5/13, Snakes & Arrows (2007) 132. ”Red Tide” - 8/11, Presto (1989)
  12. 132. "Red Tide", Presto (1989) Presto - Entry 8 out of 11 I know, right? A Presto deep cut that escapes my bottom 40! This was one of the few Presto tracks that always stuck with me a bit after listening to it, even though it is still somewhat pedestrian late 80's adult contemporary. "This is not a false alarm/This is not a test/Nowhere we can fly away/Nowhere we can rest" is definitely one of my favorite moments throughout the album. Previously on my list... 141. ”Red Tide” - 8/11, Presto (1989) How is this album doing? 11. “Anagram (for Mongo)” (#172/173) 10. “War Paint” (#162/173) 9. “Hand over Fist” (#158/173) 8. “Superconductor” (#149/173) 7. “Available Light” (#144/173) 6. “Scars” (#142/173) 5. “Presto” (#135/173) 4. ”Red Tide” (#132/173)
  13. 133. "The Larger Bowl (A Pantoum)", Snakes & Arrows (2007) Snakes & Arrows - Entry 5 out of 13 Like Presto, this is another album I wish I could really get into more than most people do. Snakes & Arrows is definitely a better album for me, especially when it comes down to lyrical content and its instrumentation. This is a simple, but perky song about social inequalities, and fares well better than most of Presto. Good stuff. Previously on my list... 141. “The Larger Bowl (A Pantoum)” - 5/13, Snakes & Arrows (2007) How is this album holding up? 13. “Bravest Face” (#171/173) 12. “The Way the Wind Blows” (#160/173) 11. “Spindrift” (#157/173) 10. “Hope” (#150/173) 9. “The Larger Bowl (A Pantoum)” (#133/173)
  14. Just knew that you would be losing it over this one.
  15. 134. "Second Nature", Hold Your Fire (1987) Hold Your Fire - Entry 2 out of 10 Besides "Tai Shan", this seems to be the other Hold Your Fire song that gets called for as being filler. With lyrics like "No one is blameless/But we're all without shame/We fight the fire/While we're feeding the flames", no way this is bottom of the list material. Although, it is a ballad like this one where you can really hear Rush get into the phase of needing to put an end to the synths. Previously on my list... 141. “Second Nature” - 2/10, Hold Your Fire (1987) How is this album holding up? 10. “Tai Shan” (#165/173) 9. “Second Nature” (#134/173)
  16. 135. "Presto", Presto (1989) Presto - Entry 7 out of 11 As you can definitely tell by now, Presto is by no means my favorite Rush album. Like Test for Echo, many of the songs are easily pedestrian Rush, and many sound similar to those from earlier works. This one sounds vaguely similar to "The Pass", and is definitely far less interesting - very good track, though ain't no way you convincing me otherwise this album is one of the creative lows of their discography. Previously on my list... 141. “Presto” - 7/11, Presto (1989) How is this album holding up? 11. “Anagram (for Mongo)” (#172) 10. “War Paint” (#162) 9. “Hand over Fist” (#158) 8. “Superconductor” (#149) 7. “Available Light” (#144) 6. “Scars” (#142) 5. “Presto” (#135)
  17. 136. "Time and Motion," Test for Echo (1996) Test for Echo - Entry 6 out of 11 Definitely one of the more interesting tracks from the album - a heavy, straightforward tune accompanied with Dream Theater synths. Another fabulous Alex solo can be found in this song too! Previously on my list... 141. “Time and Motion” - 6/11, Test for Echo (1996) How is this album holding up? 11. “Half the World” (#173/173) 10. “Virtuality” (#170/173) 9. “Dog Years” (#169/173) 8. “The Color of Right” (#152/173) 7. “Carve Away the Stone” (#148/173) 6. “Time and Motion” (#136/173) I still have yet t0 uncover "Test for Echo", "Driven", "Totem", "Resist", and "Limbo". What do you think of this song? How do you predict the rest of my Test for Echo ranking will turn out?
  18. 137. "The Big Wheel," Roll the Bones (1991) Roll the Bones - Entry 5 out of 10 Another tune that seems to be going nowhere other than straightforward, this time from Roll the Bones. It's definitely a lot better than the few I've went through so far, which were all ill-advised, gimmicky tracks. I like the lyrics on this one, though - "Well, I was only a kid, on a holy crusade/I placed no trust in a faith that was ready-made/Take no chances on paradise delayed/So I do a slow fade." Previous tracks I've covered: 141. “Roll the Bones” - 4/10, Roll the Bones (1991) 140. “Here Again” - 2/8, Rush (1974) 139. “Between Sun & Moon” - 2/11, Counterparts (1993) 138. “The Stars Look Down” - 3/13, Vapor Trails (2002) 137. “The Big Wheel” - 5/10, Roll the Bones (1991) How is this album holding up? 10. “Face Up” (#166/173) 9. “You Bet Your Life” (#163/173) 8. “Neurotica” (#159/173) 7. “Roll the Bones” (#141/173) 6. “The Big Wheel” (#137/173) I still have yet to uncover "Dreamline", "Bravado", “Where’s My Thing? (Part IV, “Gangster of Boats” Trilogy)", "Heresy", and "Ghost of a Chance". What are your thoughts?
  19. Here's my Vapor Trails ranking so far: 13. “Peaceable Kingdom” (#164/173) 12. “Out of the Cradle” (#155/173) 11. “The Stars Look Down” (#138/173) Songs left: "One Little Victory", "Ceiling Unlimited," "Ghost Rider," "How It Is," "Vapor Trail," "Secret Touch," "Earthshine," "Sweet Miracle," "Nocturne," and "Freeze (Part IV of "Fear")". Edit: I'll make sure to add this kind of thing for my future posts!
  20. I think I have a good idea of what you're saying and how I can implement this into my posts! Thanks for the suggestion.
  21. 138. "The Stars Look Down," Vapor Trails (2002) Vapor Trails - Entry 3 out of 13 Time to get rid of the one that people often consider the throwaway track from Vapor Trails. A heavy, straightforward rocker that doesn't overstate its welcome - though maybe the only issue with this one is that it is the most overly simplistic track from the album, and it really just ain't as heavily layered as the others. A good tune nonetheless. Also, I am more thankful for the remixed version when the falsetto is slightly grating in the original mix. 141. “Roll the Bones” - 4/10, Roll the Bones (1991) 140. “Here Again” - 2/8, Rush (1974) 139. “Between Sun & Moon” - 2/11, Counterparts (1993) 138. “The Stars Look Down” - 3/13, Vapor Trails (2002)
  22. Rumours is perfect, but Hotel California's emotional moments grab me more than anything on Rumours.
  23. I'd say from my list, #173 - #154 is the bland/mediocre stuff, and now we are in the fairly decent material with some of my shitty nitpicks :)
