  1. Hi, another Raleigh person here - Body Electric. It was Body Electric / Bravado / Mahattan / Seven Cities! Unfortunately that was the same setlist as Charlotte on the first leg of the tour! Of all the nights to double-back on it they did it now? Other than the setlist unexpectedly being the same, everything was perfect as always! So if I'm correct: Austin: Limelight / Bravado / Seven Cities of Gold / Manhattan Project Ft. Lauderdale: The Body Electric / Bravado / Seven Cities of Gold / Manhattan Project Orlando: Middletown Dreams / The Pass / Wish them Well / Dreamline Nashville: Limelight / Bravado / Seven Cities of Gold / Manhattan Project Raleigh: The Body Electric / Bravado / Seven Cities of Gold / Manhattan Project Assuming those are correct, here are the overall totals for the tour (both legs included): 40/40: Tom Sawyer, YYZ, Subdivisions, The Analog Kid, Red Sector A, The Big Money, Grand Designs, Territories, Force Ten, Where's My Thing?, Far Cry, Caravan, Clockwork Angels, The Anarchist, Halo Effect, The Wreckers, Headlong Flight, The Garden 39/40: 2112 Overture/The Temples of Syrinx/Grand Finale, Carnies 36/40: The Spirit of Radio 23/40: Seven Cities of Gold 22/40: Manhattan Project, Bravado 19/40: Wish them Well 18/40: The Pass, Dreamline 17/40: The Body Electric 16/40: Middletown Dreams 7/40: Limelight 5/40: Working Man
  2. Sorry to get a bit off-topic, but I just thought I'd share this. When I saw this topic name I thought you were going to be referring to the snippet of Xanadu at the beginning of "Pleasure Dome" by Van Halen!
  3. I got mine in the mail a couple of days before the show (however, my date was the pushed-back-a-day Greensboro show). But I think when I ordered it in the first place it said it would likely arrive after the show.
  4. QUOTE (hughes&kettner @ Jun 20 2010, 08:59 AM) QUOTE (shaun3701 @ Jun 19 2010, 03:19 PM) VT was like the one tour they actually alternated some songs, and they didn't play Vital Signs when I saw them. I was so disappointed... but this should make up for it. what was the alternate to vital signs?? Freewill.
  5. Some things I need to add (again, assuming there is some way for me to be able to edit that post again- can anyone help, please?) are songs that were performed before their tour. There were a few mini-tours in-between tours, usually containing the setlist of the previous tour, but with a song or two replaced with a song from the upcoming album. I thought about listing the Moving Pictures Warm-Up tour, for example, as part of the Permanent Waves tour, and putting the "PeW" next to Tom Sawyer (one of the songs that was previewed). I'm not sure if that's the best way to handle it listwise or not, but they did this for quite a few albums actually.
  6. QUOTE (victor of fate @ Jun 9 2010, 09:26 AM) Nice job! I did find one discrepancy as The Trees was played (prior to Xanadu) on the Counterparts tour. Also, (not to be picky but...), Broons Bane should be credited as a Rush song as it appears officially (although recorded live) on Exit Stage left. I think I read somewhere (maybe the book Chemistry?) that that song was written during the Permanent Waves sessions but did not fit with the rest of the material for that record so it was saved for a later release. I cannot wait to see the documentary tomorrow! Agh, I will fix that when I get a chance. Unfortunately, I don't seem to be able to edit the post anymore. :/ The Trees has always been a "problem song" in setlists for me it seems. I think I'm one of the few Rush fans who dislikes it (I don't hate it, but it's my least favorite Rush "hit"). It always comes along and ruins things! - First of all, I've messed up on it twice here just now - Second, they dropped Between Sun & Moon (?!) for it, a song they had never played live before that tour! - Third, they excluded it from the R30 DVD when I actually wanted to see it (it had those cool Beatles snippets by Alex on that tour) - Fourth, they had to go and drop Circumstances (?!) for it, a song that had a cool new arrangement and hadn't been played since the 70's! I did mention Broon's Bane, but how would you suggest I handle it, assuming there -is- a way for me to edit again? Should I list it on "Non-album songs" or what?
  7. QUOTE (Pause Rewind Replay @ Jun 9 2010, 01:58 AM) Thank you for this effort!! One omission: The Trees was also played on the second (2008) leg of the S&A tour.. it replaced Circumstances from the 2007 leg Thank you, I knew I forgot one from there! Fixing the second leg of the S&A tour was one of the things I did today, hehe, and I knew I missed something.
  8. QUOTE (lerxt1990 @ Jun 8 2010, 10:36 PM) Nice work. Very interesting way to present that data. Thank you. I have always found setlists interesting, even for bands that I don't even care about. So when it comes to someone I -do- care about, like Rush, I have fun with it, hehe. This also might help people speculate on "songs we haven't played in 10 years, 20 years, or ever" or whatever it was, exactly, that Neil said.
  9. QUOTE (Hiding in plain sight @ Jun 8 2010, 08:49 PM) I was already upset they never played Nocturne. Now on top of that, you left it off your list. Wow, oops! Thanks.
  10. QUOTE (Tarkus407 @ Jun 8 2010, 05:37 PM) Leave That Thing Alone wasn't played on the R30 tour was it? Oops, you're right. Thanks for the catch. I typo'd way back when.

It was performed like this until (and including) the TFE tour. Closer To The Heart was only played 5 times on the VT tour; it debuted in Mexico City, but was dropped until the last four dates of the tour (Manchester, NH and the three Brazil dates). *** Late in the RTB tour, a short instrumental tease of Cygnus X-1 was added at the end of the "Spirit Of Radio Medley" that closed the show. A similar tease was added to the closing song of the CP and TFE tours (which in both cases was YYZ). Cygnus X-1 was performed as an abbreviated instrumental on the VT tour. 12. I compiled this list myself, checking my knowledge of bootlegs against the Power Windows website and the Digital Rush Experience. I made this a few years ago (when the S&A tour started), got distracted, and forgot to ever post it. But here it is! I'm very proud of it and I hope you like it. This lists each Rush song and the tours that song was played on. Except in some of their early tours, Rush has never really varied their setlist from night-to-night. There are some exceptions. On the Vapor Trails tour, for example, they rotated a few songs from night-to-night, and on some tours they replaced songs with new songs on the second leg or something like that. But usually when Rush drops a song they drop it permanently. If a song has no tours next to it, it's never been played live! The only songs that have never missed a show since their introduction are Tom Sawyer and Dreamline! (and technically all the S&A songs that have been played live) KEY Rush: Early tourdates for debut album FBN: Fly By Night tour CoS: "Down the Tubes" tour 2112: 2112 tour, All The World's A Stage tour AFTK: A Farewell To Kings tour, Archives tour Hemi: Hemispheres tour *will update this soon*
  13. Rush's concert openers by tour: Rush: Finding My Way Fly By Night: Finding My Way Caress of Steel: Bastille Day 2112: Bastille Day A Farewell To Kings: Bastille Day Hemispheres: Anthem Permanent Waves: 2112 Moving Pictures: 2112 Overture / The Temples Of Syrinx Signals: The Spirit of Radio Grace Under Pressure: The Spirit Of Radio Power Windows: The Spirit Of Radio Hold Your Fire: The Big Money Presto: Force Ten Roll the Bones: Force Ten Counterparts: Dreamline Test For Echo: Dreamline Vapor Trails: Tom Sawyer R30: R30 Overture Snakes & Arrows: Limelight I'm not saying I want 2112 to necessarily be the opener (or think it will be the opener), but it's happened before. The Permanent Waves setlist's version of 2112 is shortened (I don't remember what it's missing, probably Oracle), but is closer to complete than not. Rush has never opened with a song from the current album, except on their first tour (obviously), and on the few recordings we have of the CoS tour (all of which are from the same show, which Rush did not headline). With a few exceptions, Rush has never opened a concert with a song that isn't the first track on an album. A few tourdates for their first two tours had Best I Can as the opnener. R30 Overture was an original medley, but began with Finding My Way. The Snakes & Arrows tour opened with Limelight, the first time Rush used a non-album opener to open a tour, though Exit... Stage Left's DVD does open with Limelight. Rush has never returned to a previous concert opener after switching to a new one, unless you count R30 Overture as Finding My Way or consider it an intro to the Spirit of Radio. I'm not saying they won't break these trends, I'm just pointing out the facts from past tours before people continue to say things like "they won't open with 2112" or "they always open with The Spirit Of Radio."
  14. I shuffled around random Rush songs and rearranged them until the playlist seemed to have a good flow. I've always loved setlists, so I think a lot in terms of setlists when I create playlists (which is actually very rare- I normally just listen to full albums). So I got this idea. Each of the three "slots" in this playlist has two choices- look carefully at the choices, pick one for each slot, then vote on which group of three you'd choose to complete this playlist. See which overall group of three is the most popular! The Spirit Of Radio (Slot 1) (Slot 2) Jacob's Ladder Spindrift Earthshine Lock And Key (Slot 3) YYZ Each slot has two options. (Slot 1): Distant Early Warning or Manhattan Project (Slot 2): Something For Nothing or Circumstances (Slot 3): Anthem or Lakeside Park
  15. Yeah, that's what I heard- I don't really know anything by them myself.
  16. I'm seeing the Red Hot Chili Peppers tomorrow!
  17. Here are some more singles I found: "Superconductor" promo single with no B-sides. When you play it, say it!: http://991.com/newgallery/Rush-Superconductor-22335.jpg Promo sampler for "Different Stages" which has a few of the same live versions as the album (I won't list them here, but it has some from each disc): http://991.com/newgallery/Rush-Different-Stages-127779.jpg "Closer To The Heart" single from A Show Of Hands, with (according to the site) "Witch Hunt" as a b-side: http://991.com/newgallery/Rush-Closer-To-The-Hea-261389.jpg Here are some interesting things I found that aren't singles: Rush Zippo lighter: http://991.com/newgallery/Rush-Zippo-Lighter-162248.jpg Hemispheres vinyl picture disc LP: http://991.com/newgallery/Rush-Hemispheres---sea-313061.jpg Stickers celebrating the release of "The Spirit Of Radio: Greatest Hits": http://991.com/newgallery/Rush-The-Spirit-Of-Rad-240012.jpg
  18. I'm just posting pictures. Most of them were ridiculously expensive. Sorry if I implied that I bought them. It'd be really cool to have some of these, though.
  19. I found a lot more than these, but I only posted the ones that I found the most interesting. The full list is here. Sorry if it stretches the margin: http://eil.com/fulltext/search.asp?searcht...=RUS&prodtype=1 Here's a UK Tom Sawyer single from Exit... UK 10" vinyl single for "The Body Electric": http://eil.com/shop/moreinfo.asp?catalogid=1184 I'm really surprised to find "Countdown" as a single, but this appears to be commercial and not a promo as it has B-sides: http://991.com/newgallery/Rush-Countdown-31410.jpg A promo CD-single for "Secret Touch" which has no art, but interestingly includes what appears to be a 4:47 (I wonder what they took out?) radio edit of the song: http://991.com/newgallery/Rush-Secret-Touch-218372.jpg Spanish 7" vinyl single for "The Spirit Of Radio," which, while it's not listed on the art, apparently includes "Different Strings" as a b-side: http://991.com/newgallery/Rush-The-Spirit-Of-Rad-212369.jpg "One Little Victory" CD-single which has art featuring the Knight Of Wands card, but has no b-side: http://991.com/newgallery/Rush-One-Little-Victor-214001.jpg "Resist" promo CD-single, featuring the live acoustic version from Rush In Rio: http://991.com/newgallery/Rush-Resist-288149.jpg A CD "Strictly Limited Edition Single" of Prime Mover, featuring the juggler as the art. The B-sides aren't listed on the cover, but the site I found it on lists them as Tai Shan, Distant Early Warning (Live), and New World Man (Live). It's also interesting, because, being so limited, the individual copies are numbered: http://991.com/newgallery/Rush-Prime-Mover---Num-24226.jpg CD-single for "Nobody's Hero" with unique artwork. It apparently contains the "Master Edit" version of the song (and nothing else) which has a length of 4:29 instead of the album version's 4:55: http://991.com/newgallery/Rush-Nobodys-Hero-91857.jpg 12" promotional vinyl Exit... The B-sides, according to the site I found it on, are "Force Ten" and "The Enemy Within": http://991.com/newgallery/Rush-Time-Stand-Still-18581.jpg This has got to be the most interesting one I've found. This is a "Subdivisions" 12" vinyl single, with really cool artwork I've never seen before. According to the site I found it on, the B-sides are Red Barchetta and Jacob's Ladder. Also, it was released in 1981, so it came out before the Signals album: http://991.com/newgallery/Rush-Subdivisions-31411.jpg
  20. I'm on last.fm: http://www.last.fm/user/BlueBabyDragon/ I recently reset my charts, though- it seemed like a good idea at the time (it's not like my tastes changed or anything, I just randomly felt like it), but now I feel stupid for doing it. Nothing seems to have visually changed at the moment, but it probably will soon. If anyone wants to add me on there, just send a friend request. Just don't ask me to join any groups.
  21. Now, don't get me wrong- if it has to be the "flagship" to draw people in, then whatever. But one thing that I love about Rush (that I can't say about too many other bands) is that they can create albums that each have a distinct sound, yet all their albums sound like Rush. Really, the only things I've ever heard by Rush on the radio are Tom Sawyer, Limelight, The Spirit Of Radio, and 2112 Overture/Temples. It's too much of a focus on their early 80's stuff, and not enough on their mid-to-late 80's and especially 90's. Tom Sawyer is a great song, don't get me wrong, and it's not bad at all. People here shouldn't be ashamed to call it one of their favorite songs just because it's popular. Rush is a band, though, that can't really have a flagship song at all. Their early 80's material is their most popular, but as far as I have seen or can see, that's the only stuff that will ever get played on my local radio stations. That time period of Rush is definitely not bad or even overrated (looking at Classic Rock as a whole), but it's all a lot of people have heard, so they haven't got a good enough glimpse of Rush's versatility and unique musicianship.
