  1. Thank you, everyone, involved in bringing this to us. Every time something like this is presented, it's like a nugget found in the ground! You all make it shine
  2. "I heard his pruning skills once brought back a sycamore back from the dead.."
  3. I can't find the earlier references to Rush in current television and movies, but I watched a new show on Netflix, Unstable, with Rob Lowe. Brand new show. Like it or not, somebody in production is a fan! Silly and all, but episode 6 has a scene with Tom Sawyer playing more than just the first few bars. Very cool! And 2112.net has quite an extensive list of "Rush Pop Culture" references in contemporary shows. I bet you will be surprised!
  4. You go Girl!!!!! I am still waiting for the day, we'll see. No history and nothing to sound an alarm but I am getting to the "every two years" or so age. A friend recently described the exact same thing - watching what is going on and realising the acres upon acres of places for a chicken nugget or another plate of french fries might linger. And I just looked up iron deficiencies (as one example). It's a wonder any of us retain iron at all!
  5. I read up on the game, PS3,4,5. I was hoping for a PC version, but that is coming at the end of March and from experience, I don't get a game when it is released. We have a PS 3 and 4 in the house, but I appreciate what you are saying - the story is great - and I think I got enough of that from the show. But zombie shooters aren't my thing and I have tried a couple of more pure survival games. Then I read that the two main actors for the series were on Game Of Thrones together, so that makes sense. Great role playing.
  6. Thanks Principled Man. I saw this a couple of times, but why not add more support... What stands out to me is their casual nature. Yes it's silly and fun, but the vibe is very relaxed. I bet the camera rolled and there were not many takes - they naturally enjoyed the whole thing. How often I read over the decades about promotions and the difficulties of getting performers to get together in the same room simply to read some lines despite the anger or hate in the room. They are such nice, mature, long standing friends. What a history, such a long catalogue of music and great hard working guys. It shows! I just hope they know that at their age, trying to make a baby is probably a bad idea. I liked the Moving Pitchers Belgian-Style Extra Strong Pale Ale (with Pinot Noir Must (?)). At 11.9%, I was good with one - but I thought the taste was really unique and yummy. The Golden Ale in a can at 5.5% tasted fine, but not being a beer person I didn't really get anything special from it. It is meant to feature a piney and citrus hop character, followed by a dry, spicy finish reminiscent of a white rye bread. That went over my head, completely. But it's used in the mustard and that, that my forum friends is a tasty mustard. So what is the promotion here? Signals honoured in the background music, but is it a new beer? It was promoted before, so is this a second Golden Ale? I don't think it is. Of interest, on the Henderson Brewery website, the RUSH X HENDERSON category of beer and the photo of Geddy and Alex toasting a beer, the caption reads: "Why are we here? We're here for the beer!" (Would Neil roll over? No, I think he would be giggling endlessly and there would have been twice as many outtakes.)
  7. I never played it but after watching The Last Of Us (and really liking the production and characters a lot) and an acquaintance said it was a good game, I am wondering. Never got into the solo explorer RPG adventure games, at some point they hit a wall for me. Yet, the television series has many moments when I thought it was very game-like. Would you pick up that instrument? How is your Health? Do you Trust that stranger? Is that kind of on the right track?
  8. Wow. Wishing you the strength and courage it takes to move on. I know from experience many years ago, while we are current and things go along on a regular basis the prospects of finding new work are almost entertain-able, such that we can complain and wish for something better, etc. because the networks and connections are in our face every few hours, every day. But when that situation changes? It's like asking for favours or trying to convince strangers that your credit is worth it. Just creating a fresh resume and such, not fun. Call on every good contact you have. You aren't asking for a favour -You are now available to join another project. Your value will be seen before long - let's hope a revival and silver lining comes from this shitty situation! I read in past posts you used to play the trumpet? Ride motor bikes? I see a travelling performer on the horizon - big bucks for high brow audiences? Good luck to you, Laurabw.
  9. Thanks, invisible airwave - always great to see "anything Rush" The band seems to be in some kind of sub-level of television culture in the last couple of years. I am sure there are earlier examples, but some other recent threads have shown more examples. How interesting. It takes retirement after fifty years to start popping up more often in mainstream entertainment. And how do you justify making a fake poster? Maybe it's too muck paperwork to use an actual tour poster and there is no heavy hand to penalise fakers? I can't zoom in enough to get the details, but I did watch a fair bit of the movie so I think I will check it out again and do some pausing-observing.
  10. I will check that out, thank you malm_51, but let's be real about this - we pre-order, hope for the best and basically get what we ordered. More celebrations of the earlier albums. What is offered is better than not being offered anything at all? Yes, the guys don't generally have control of content releases, but every time a new release is made, it has some new things to add to the mix. Give me more!
  11. I have been waiting for this, thank you blueschica for posting about it. Totally going to get it, it's something I have been waiting for! Wasn't there somewhere, where people were posting prototype titles? More chances to use memes (noticing that there are a few hockey and sports memes but not baseball - oops?)
  12. But share with us, is that a pic of you guys in uniform?
  13. You are a true fan of details, thank you for always giving some context to posts. Among others, of course, but you post more often. Thank you!
  14. No disappointments with what is not being included, but very pleased with what is. I admit, I thought Moving Pictures was my last 40th purchase. How many am I going to get? But when I watched the "unboxing"? I actually felt goosebumps - it was released around the time when I was in grade 8 or 9. It was huge with my peers. We walked home from Boy Scouts trying to outdo each other with stories about the band. Mostly untrue! While I always hold the previous 8 studio albums with such high regard and think of them as the ultimate classics, they were also what my older brothers were playing and they were amazing to me. But Signals was my first album. In terms of iconography with the new font using lower case letters - or mixed or whatever - I took a lot of time to marker it onto the back of my jean jacket that also had a big VH and Iron Maiden and Led Zeppelin scribbles. Seeing the added Hugh Syme artwork, that closed the deal! A boy lying in the grass...futuristic graphics... And while I am still a stalwart of a simple 2 channel audio amp for listening, I like the Blu-ray offering, it will be very nice for the living room viewing experience. Lyric sheets? I love those. Very creative, very Neil - I feel. The collection is growing. And the last song on the album, Countdown? (from Wiki) The song was used as a wake up song for astronauts during STS-109, which was the last successful flight of Space Shuttle Columbia. It was used again for astronaut Mike Fincke during STS-134, flown by Space Shuttle Endeavour on its final mission before retirement. Fincke described how his friends Greg Shurtz and NASA employee Ken Fisher chose the song because the band was inspired to write it after viewing the launch of STS-1. Fincke went on to say the song was played as a tribute to the Space Shuttle program, which has inspired people around the world.[6] Chris Hadfield, the first Canadian to perform extravehicular activity in outer space, he has flown two Space Shuttle missions and also served as commander of the International Space Station, said about the song: "...says he started listening to them in high school and was drawn to the band's "incredible originality and dissatisfaction with normal" in a new video post he's made from aboard the International Space Station ... Losing it? With both Ben Mink and Jonathan Dinklage on the R40 Tour? Priceless. Give me a big box of Signals nostalgia and I am happy. Edit: my brothers were playing and they were amazing...
  15. goose, are you in that motley crew? Is it roll playing, like reenactments of fables or fandom stuff?
  16. What kind of bike? In 2020 and 2021 during all the pandemic restrictions, I rode my bike more than every before in my life. Some ignored Rush albums on my headphones, long rural roads watching the farm lands and hills roll by, it was very therapeutic!
  17. I think the rest of the album credits all three of them. And I don't know how to describe exactly the relationship with FBN with albums to come, but it is absolutely a departure from the rockin' bar band sounds of the first album.
  18. You share that wonder with our beloved Neil - how he could spend time, simply watching. And I always appreciated him writing about that, because aside from one's personal situation, there is peace and wonder in watching birds but it takes the time and appreciation to actually see what they are doing - honest!
  19. We were looking at them last night, apparently even with good binoculars you can see some moons of Jupiter (good luck holding them steady enough!), but yes Venus was very bright! It's a great thing, sky stuff - we can often see the same thing from many parts of the continent and share a moment.
  20. Constructively selfish...because it means you can watch them as they return to the feeder? Not so selfish? Maybe not "survival of the species friendly" but with everything else going on in the world, yup, why not put down some seeds for our fluttery friends
  21. I trust you are focusing on the oldies but goodies! No Natural Science in that mix? Beneath, Between and Behind? You're calling them the Obscure Four, cool! - maybe those four songs could include another song and then magically be called "Part Five of Obscure Four", sort of like "Part Four of the Fear Trilogy"? Okay, New_World_Man, I will stop trying to derail this topic - promise! Back to In The End
  22. Mr. Lurkst, teach me/please explain a bit more what you are thinking? You play guitar, I don't, but I like what you are saying about cranking up the amp - I really like the pauses in the song and then the super sharp Alex guitar riffs! Is the "one two..." quote, something Alex said on stage at some point? Or a soundcheck? Rings a bell from a concert video... I looked at the album jacket after seeing this post (CDs are too small to read nowadays without glasses on hand) and all songs are credited with all three members - except for Best I Can and In The End. So not pre-Professor lyrics, but Lee/Lifeson? Yes, not every moment of their musical history has the exact correct reference, but are you just generally saying the music is still in the early stages? I also like cranking up the first album every once in a while, and that is simple stuff! But still fun to hear. And credits at that point are perhaps ambiguous... Maybe it all fits with the music they went on to create? The beginnings must help the successes of the endings? Influences and such... And I have never really paid a lot of attention to play lists, thank you for the mention of a limited "shelf life/pick list" - I will watch for this rarely played live song, now more often. Looks like it will be an easy chore! Cheers. I would really appreciate any positive reply.
  23. So glad I logged in tonight! I love this song. Not only is it part of the first album with them together, every song feels like their own - no filler songs or remakes of other artists (not talking about Feedback, at all) to round out a full record. Key changes and strumming chords can sound tired, but it really feels alive with In The End. I wait for the different guitar sounds and really enjoy hearing it, every time. It's like a juvenile Far Cry? Nice one, New_World_Man, I agree - an underrated song and deserves to be celebrated in its own right (Side note, the mixing on this album is interesting. Rivendell is practically un-listenable? And a shame because it's another example of what the guys really, really wanted to write and play, no? There was a re-mix of Vapor Trails, I think there should be a re-mix of Fly By Night)
  24. Thank you for thinking about this, Alexmai. But I wonder if you are looking only at "capacity" and not so much at the ticket sales/seat occupancy? Many things come together when considering these statistics. I also have looked through Wandering, but it is very number/review specific. The whole picture is not that obvious? The concerts were some of the biggest EVER that Rush had performed, huge numbers - but they were in soccer/football stadiums that are very, very large. Those stadiums are meant to accommodate tens upon tens of thousands of fans - yet they were available for concert bookings, and the whole Rush team admits to not realising how popular they were down south. It would look on paper that those shows were under attended, but a couple were, in fact, the biggest ever.
  25. Because Rush Backstage does not send food products outside the U.S. and Kozlik's does not show the product (?), we ordered directly from Henderson Brewery. It really is a nice mustard. Not too sharp or too sweet - and it might be a tasting imagination, but there does seem to be a different angle to the taste. Not a hops or beer flavour, but a smooth taste that suggests you could use it on almost anything. And I now realise, over 19 albums the guys covered a lot of different sounds and musical influences. Perhaps that is exactly what the mustard is supposed to inspire? Very yummy mustard!
