  1. After getting bailed out by a late home run two nights ago, the Cardinals lose 14-1. Cardinals fans are losing their minds; I haven't checked Vegas to see if Kid Marmol is one of the favorites to lose his job first, but it might be worth a flutter.

Royals, meanwhile, continue to play winning baseball!

  2. I'm an old guy, so I asked my kids (20-25): "Will you miss Tik Tok?"  "No, not really," they said.  I asked my students (17-20): "Will you miss Tik Tok?" "No, not really," they said.

"There are other options," they all said.

    End of story.

(I think it's hilariously sad, though, how little Americans care about how much of our activity is tracked -- by governments and by corporations.)

1st inning:  Brewers center fielder Blake Perkins robs Nootbaar of a 3-run homer.
Brewers finally get to a dominating Sonny Gray in the 7th inning.
Brewers SWEEP the evil Cardinals in St. Louis.

    I LOVE BASEBALL.

  4. I like when albums begin with something punchy, then run through the gears, changing tempos and pacing, creating dynamism with a sense of ebb and flow, building to something summative and maybe a little melancholy (the album is over, after all). My all-time favorite album closer is Pink Floyd's "High Hopes," but the rest of that album doesn't have enough variation to really be a good example.  I do think Clockwork Angels works well, but what can top . . .

I assume Sacramento is a shorter trip, if you wanted to catch a game? Think about the homers Langaliers can hit in a minor league park!

I sent a message to someone at Anthem about this and this was their reply: "I can tell you its certainly on my list of hopeful "to do"."

Doesn't sound like anything has been done regarding GUP.

    Thoughts?

Sounds like everyone's enthusiasm is waning.

    Brewers @ Reds

I hate it when they’re playing in Cincinnati.  Almost every game is a hair-pulling battle, strange things happen, no lead is safe, the 9th inning is never easy…..

Plus, you've got all those conflicted loyalties . . . right?

  8. It couldn't hurt to listen to more of her catalog, but I don't know you'll find many revelatory gems in there. She had a style ("gimmick" if you're feeling uncharitable) and much of her work is in that vein.

It is that style, though, that made her larger than the sum of her songs; her look, the "tragic artist" trope; her being "of the moment" when mid-century was having a revival (early Adele, Mad Men, etc.), the possibility of really good drag looks -- she was famous in a way that transcended just the music.

    My $.02.
