  1. Variety has an online article outling grosses for the first half of 2010. Rush is 12th with 18 mil.
  2. Oh, my god! This thread is ridiculous. These kinds of threads are why I lurk more than post. However, as I can no longer sit by and idly watch as accusations and name-calling become the norm, let me interject my $.02 on the subject: I think that most of the conflict here between parties NOT INVOLVED in the OP incident(s) (which I will address shortly) is that most Rush fans are sick of not being able to secure "great" seats, even utilizing the scams now known as "fan pre-sales" and having to enjoy our favorite band from beyond the "shitty seats" in the 6th row. I myself have never been closer than the 9th row, and would absolutely love to have row 1 or 2. Like most of the people on this board, I am sick of NEVER getting a truly AWESOME seat, but I enjoy the show nonetheless. Why, because Rush puts on a hell of a show for ALL its fans, not just the ones in the front. If you want a better seat, you only have three options: Pay a scalper, seat/row jump from the cheap seats (with or without assistance), or win a set through some contest. As the first two violate published concert/venue policies, is it any reason to expect people to sympathize with you if you use either method to improve your seating? I don't think so. Contest winners are more valid in my opinion, since they made a conscious effort to obtain those tickets through a valid process, and so can be construed as "real fans." As for all this discussion from the OP concerning who jumped what seats when and who said what about reporting whoever to security...What is this, the 5th grade? Christ, you whiney shits need to shut your holes. I wish I had spoken up about the retard at the SLC show who seat shared with a buddy who was smoking pot like a freight train, but I didn't so I had to live with that retard eating up space. Did I come on here and immediately bitch about it? NO! If you don't say something about it when it happens, you simply need to STFU about it. You let it happen, so you need to live with it. That being said, RushGirl, you realize that you don't have any more right to weasel your way up front and play the "cute girl/die-hard fan" card any more than anyone else. As this thread has shown, there are too many rabid fans to all justify moving up front. Just because some people let you get away with it doesn't make it right. Using your "connections" or influence or whatever, assuming that nobody will mind, all while saying "if it upset someone, I'll stop" is contradictory: it OBVIOUSLY upsets people when it happens, and in this case, you are the most visible person doing it. I'm sure you are a wonderful person, and maybe I'll meet you someday at a show or Con or something, but what I am saying is that - in this instance - with this behavior - you are WRONG. VitalSignz: You should have handled your particular beef with RG better, also. Throwing out a generalized attack and then namedropping to make a dramatic point was really cute...if you're a 16 year old girl. PM her or call security at the venue, but this crap has got to stop (not just for you, but everyone). That's my rant. Take it for what it's worth. Or leave it. Frankly, at this point, I think more than one person in this thread needs to grow up.
  3. QUOTE (Hatchet_Ax_Saw @ Aug 30 2010, 02:16 PM) For grins, has anyone purchased some of these pics? And was it worth it? I bought 4 of them (5x7s). They were worth it to me.
  4. Well, I'm sitting at the airport waiting to fly home from Vegas, and thought I'd take advantage of the airport's free wi-fi to jot down some of my impressions of last night's show. Here goes: First, let me start with the fact that I, of course, enjoyed the show. Basically, the stage would have to collapse and kill the guys or they would all have to simultaneously forget how to play to hate a show. That being said, I though that there were maybe a few more technical issues for the guys this time, as opposed to when I saw them last week in SLC. Neil had some kit adjustments(?) done during the show, and Alex didn't seem as sharp as he usually is. Geddy's voice sounded tired, but that's probably because its his 3rd show in 4 nights, and they played in Irvine the night prior. Still, a phenomenal show. The gentlemen sitting next to me was there with his buddy who made him listen to only Moving Pictures and brought him to the show. Seemed genuinely impressed with what he saw/heard, so there's probably a new fan there. Always a good thing. To sum up: I would rate the SLC show above this one, with the caveat that they were coming off a break and were well rested and ready to rock for that one. Which they did. Vegas was still good, but for the tour next year, they may want to schedule fewer back to backs is possible. Just my 2 cents. Oh, and as for the Mini-con at Hooters: I found it quite enjoyable, but I really need to get over my social anxiety and meet more people and actually participate in some of the events. Except for the auctions: some of you people are NUTS! I don't have that kind of cash!!!! Met a few folks and had a good time though......Next year will be better if they have it in Vegas again. If not, I suppose I'll start saving my pennies in case I need to try to get to Toronto. Enjoy all!
  5. Wow! Meet and Greet took 10 seconds, no autographs, and only 6 pairs of folks participating. Not complaining. In fact, I'm still smiling! Now that I have that out of the way, let me give you something a bit more constructive. First: for those who have been unsatisfied looking at the setlist, let me first say that I wasn't too sure about it either...ON PAPER. However, as played, there is not a hole in the setlist. Every single song was outstandingly executed and positioned in the set. Even "Time Stand Still," which has always been weak for me, sounded incredible and now strikes me as a song which must be heard live to be appreciated. Second: the Moving Pictures presentation was INCREDIBLE. Every one of those songs, especially TCE and WH, takes on an incredible life and energy when done live, and when done as an album as a whole, simply boggles the mind. What minor changes the band made to those two songs specifically were perfectly executed and sounded fantastic. Third: the video bits were hilarious. Yes, they may have a run a bit long, but it was really fun to see Neil especially having so much fun doing them. Finally: this was my daughter's first Rush show, and I caught her bobbing her head and bouncing up and down quite a bit, and singing the songs she knew well, and rocking out to the others. I can't wait to see it all again in Vegas. For those of you that have shows coming up: it is worth it, believe me! See you in Vegas!
  6. Sorry folks. The tickets have been promised to someone and are no longer available.
  7. QUOTE (vital signz @ Aug 3 2010, 06:01 AM)I won backstage passes during the S & A tour which consisted of a complete tour of all areas backstage, a walk through the stage itself with up close looks at the drum set, guitars, amps, footpedals, etc, a look at the neil inner sanctum where he warms up and a peek at his travel cases, with his accumulated road souvenirs, etc, and dinner with the crew before the show. So there are different radio contests out there for sure. Well, I won't get my hopes up. Frankly, I may soil myself during the meet and greet. My daughter is already laughing at me because I couldn't stop smiling and giggling and screaming on the drive down to the station yesterday to sign for them. I don't get the PASSES until the day of (will call), but I'm still completely stoked. More to report... AFTER!
  8. QUOTE (GeddyRulz @ Aug 2 2010, 04:26 AM) Another avenue no one has yet mentioned: the radio station "presenting" the show in your area. As an example: for the Saratoga NY show, the concert was being presented by Clear Channel's local classic rock station, PYX-106. Between the date tickets went on sale and the date of the show, they probably had at least half-a-dozen smaller contests to win a meet-and-greet. That's how I won mine today.
  9. I already posted that I won the meet and greet passes on the radio, but neglected to mention that I also got a pair of tix. section 306, Row R, seats 7 and 8. Not great, but not grass, either. Free to a good home (unless you're feeling generous, but not required). PM me.
  10. They're billed as Backstage Passes by the radio station, but I'm sure they're "just" meet and greets. BTW, who's been to one in the last few tours? I know they used to use the silly little disposable cameras to take the pics, but in the Documentary they show a full on camera setup. how does one get their pix?
  11. ... backstage passes to the Salt Lake City show on the radio today. I am in complete and total shock. My daughter is completely stoked, though. I'm sure I will post a more emotional response once the shock wears off. wow.
  12. Wow. it's theads like this that keep me on the sidelines. this will be my 77th post, so I couldn't get into the SOCN forums if I wanted to, which as of right now, I DON'T. I got into a bit of a tiff on this board a couple years back with Necro, and frankly, I'm too old for that crap. (Necro and I worked it out, by the way, so don't anybody think that he's keeping me from posting here. It's just the garbage like the recent trolling. Necro's actually a pretty okay guy, in a weird, confrontational kinda way.)
  13. Having tried to read through most of the responses to Chris' original post, I felt compelled to offer up a few of my own thoughts: 1) Yes. it is a bummer that the show was cancelled FOR THAT NIGHT due to weather or equipment failure due to water or whatever. Anytime you plan a trip and something happens that "ruins" it for you, it stinks. Nobody on this board seems to disagree with that point. It has happened/will happen to everybody at one time or another. I am seeing 2 shows this tour (SLC and Vegas), and it is a stretch for me monetarily to do so. If either show doesn't come off, it will stink, but I will make the best of the rescheduling when/if it happens. 2) You should really wait for the rescheduled date/time/location to be announced before you willy-nilly file a lawsuit against ANYBODY. If the show CAN'T go on for whatever reason, and the promoters are willing to reschedule, let the process run its course first. This seems akin to appealing a court ruling before it is made. Everything has a sequence of events, and no amount of complaining can change that. 3) IF you cannot make the rescheduled event, then, by all means, begin the process of getting your refund for the ticket(s) you purchased from Stubhub, Ticketmaster, or whomever has the refund policy applicable to you. 4) Which is it: you want your your ticket $$ back or you want "out of pocket losses"? That's a lawyer phrase and doesn't endear you to anyone. See item #1 above: if your ENTIRE trip was dependent on the show, then I'm sorry, but at least you got to spend a bunch of time with old friends in Chicago with the prospect of catching the show at a later date. I would think that would trump an entire trip being dependent on a concert, Rush or not. I know it would for me. But saying you don't want your airfare back but want "transportation costs" when you said you walked to the venue from your hotel...? Maybe I'm missing your point (it wouldn't be the first time I've missed something theoretically obvious). 5) I am not a lawyer, I am a retired Air Force MSgt. If you tell me that you HAVE TO put Rush's name on the lawsuit, then I will believe you. However, if you are attaching their names simply as an attempt to expedite some sort of "enhanced" outcome in your favor, then you, Sir, are sad. If, legally, LiveNation or TM or some other party is legally bound, then by all means, address your concerns to them WITHIN THE SYSTEM. See items #2 & 3 above: Let the process work. I appreciate your willingness to address your actions with the members of the fan community, just be aware that you are opening yourself up to criticisms and attack, not just by fans, but theoretically by LN/TM/Rush's legal teams for what you espouse on boards such as this one. I hope you get to see Rush in some venue on this tour and do not let one sour experience with an event - and not THE SHOW ITSELF - ruin your appreciation for what Alex, Geddy and Neil bring us year after year: great music.
  14. QUOTE (rusher @ Jul 4 2010, 09:55 PM) Just in case you didn't know - Porcupine Tree is playing the night before Rush and Primus is having a midnight show the same night as Rush, both at the Joint (Hard Rock Cafe). Primus is calling theirs "An Evening with Primus - Special Midnight performance after the Rush show". Doesn't get much better than that for a weekend of shows. And in Vegas no less. I believe the Porcupine Tree show is with Coheed & Cambria, as well. That's a lot of music for 36 hours...
  15. QUOTE (Joshua @ Jul 5 2010, 08:08 AM) I'm with Steven Wilson on this one. It's rude and distracting to the others in the audience. When I'm watching a band, I don't want a bright LCD light shining in my face. If folks would kindly turn their brightness setting way down before the show, it might help. You know, I was thinking the exact same thing! My camera (I can't speak for anyone else's) has a viewfinder, so I would just turn off the LCD and flash (since it doesn't help anyway) altogether. I certainly don't want to ruin anyone else's concert experience, but like I've said before, what's wrong with a couple of personal snapshots, especially in the before/intermission/after time? A couple of show shots are always nice, as well. If nothing else, my cellphone has a decent camera, but I can't turn the LCD off on that one...
  16. QUOTE (The Killer Rabbit @ Jul 4 2010, 10:17 PM) At your own risk on differing venues. I was actually surprised on the various cameras I saw last night, I even spotted a Canon 40D with a 105mm there. Like wow.. the risk is huge with a prosumer. most of the cameras I seen were in the 300-350 price range. A camera wasnt my poison last night though tkr Ok, a Nikon D40 is a bit extreme. I have one myself. However, I was referring to taking a SMALL camera. And the point I was making is that the band doesn't seem to care about cameras like that....
  17. Well, I've asked this question before, but according to the photos of the Milwaukee show on Rush.com, cameras are allowed at the show since they posted pics of front row folks using them blatantly. I will be taking my camera to both my shows.
  18. I'm bringing my 15 year old daughter to the SLC show (her 1st). She swears that she'll like it, and I hope she does. But, she is a 15 year old girl....
  19. QUOTE (yyz311 @ Jul 2 2010, 12:48 PM)Just received my ticket from the musictoday presale. I feel much better now that I have it in hand. Can't wait! I've had mine for a bit. now i just need to decide if I want to drive down from SLC or fly. I know which I prefer, but driving is so much CHEAPER...
  20. Mine arrived today, as well. Outstanding way to get home from work!
  21. Vegas ticket arrived today. My SLC tickets will probably show up around 2 weeks prior to the show, if I remember the small-print right. All I know is that the SLC show is on a Thursday, and if I don't have them by the Thursday prior, I will be on the phone with somebody getting them, post-haste!
  22. QUOTE (Some Half-Forgotten Stranger @ May 2 2010, 05:32 PM) You kids are spoiled with your camera phomes and all that...back in the day "no cameras" meant NO CAMERAS. I'm not a "kid." I'm only 3 years younger than you! I'm just saying, it's not like most fans are trying to shoot video, just something as a personal memento of the moment, you know?
  23. Could Neil, Alex and Geddy, or their representation, PLEASE publish a uniform camera policy for this tour. Nothing ridiculous, just pocket cameras. I'm tired of trying to get a venue to make a decision and then fending off security if I try to take a picture or two. PLEASE! Is it asking too much?
  24. Got my ticket to the Vegas show on the first try: Section 16, Row B, seat 9. I didn't want the floor this time unless it was REALLY CLOSE, and wasn't about to through back something so close to Geddy's side. I may check back in a bit to see if anything else pops up, but I'm stoked about what I got! So my early August is BUSY: 5 Aug - Rush at Usana (with my daughter) 7 Aug - Warped tour in SLC(for/with my daughter, just like last year) 14 Aug - Rush in VEGAS!!!! (solo) STOKED!!!!!!! Any other SLC folks making the trip, speak up and we can possibly meet up at the mini-con that day! WOO-HOO!!
