  1. I bought the 3 disc package (2 audio + 1 bluray) a few weeks ago, and it's absolutely incredible. I like the Dark Side Mix as it's a bit brighter, despite it's name. But both mixes are killer, and if you're a fan you should own this album.

  2. Are you just looking for offsite storage? Or are you looking for actual "offsite backup / disaster recovery"? Because they are different. If you just need to store files somewhere, it's super simple to pull that off without a service. If you want actual "backup / recovery" that's more complex and requires a service.

How much data are you talking about here?

  3. The end was determined in January 2017 when new owners, Disney, decided that DEI was the path forward.

Nat Geo has been a highly regarded publication for decades and widely embraced. But just like every other company that chooses DEI over their loyal customers and employees, they fail. Reduction of "print media" is not the reason here. Loss of customer base is.

I agree with this, though I do still think that if hi_water just slowed his pace a little bit, his polls would remain popular but also not crowd out the non-poll threads

And as an added benefit, if the polls were open for longer than two days and spaced out a little bit more, they would also get more votes because there are people here who don't log in every single day and they'd have a better chance to participate. I look at the polls that Entre is making and there are a lot more votes being cast because they're not as time-limited. More participation is always a good thing.

Thanks man, and I completely agree with this as well.

  6. As the moderator of this forum I find the number of polls to be a bit excessive. But I also realize that activity and engagement within MoTS is very important and much needed on TRF. The only benefit I can see for creating a new sub forum is it would dramatically clean up the look of every other thread being a poll.

If the majority of new threads in MoTS are polls, moving them doesn't make much sense, because we absolutely want activity and engagement in the main forum.

Are there too many polls? Yes.

Should we do something about it? Probably not.

Do we need a poll to decide this? Are you f**king kidding me?! :dazed025:

  7. EJ is one of my top 3 favorite guitarists. I've seen him 8 times, met him a few, and absolutely cherish every song he has ever released. I will admit that I had not heard him until Ah Via Musicom was released, but instantly purchased Tones, and the rest is history. Very excited for the 2 album release this summer.

I'm currently sitting on front row tickets for his new tour that's been postponed twice.

  8. This is definitely different! Some real funky-ass chord changes going on, which I always appreciate. The production is first rate, as is always the case when you're the one turning the knobs.

Did the three of them record the basic tracks live in the room, because you can hear subtle tempo changes and they're nicely in sync with each other.

Yeah, it's really different. Was definitely a bit of stretch for me with this type of music. But overall I enjoyed the process, and will be starting their second album over the winter.

Recording process: *Drums were recorded first, with everyone playing in the same room (no amps on). Tracked bass at the same time, but only used some of it. Then tracked guitars. Then re-tracked bass. Tracked vocals. Tracked extra's (guitars, tamborine, spoken word). Mixed. Mastered. Done.

(*drums were recorded all at once, and if there was a mistake we started over. Fewest takes=2, most=4)

This was recorded in a 12'x12' bedroom at the bass players house. Vocals, bass, and extra's recorded at my house.

Initially this was supposed to be just a decent demo, which is why we didn't do it all at my house, and I used my old portable rig. But it was sounding pretty good during tracking so we just went for it. Recorded on my old Korg D1600, then transferred all tracks to Reaper for mixing.

  9. I recently recorded and produced a new record for my friends band, Crop Killer. The genre is tough to categorize, but it's indie rock with some punk, surf, and 90's alt flavors. The album turned out pretty well, and has been getting some local play and press here in Phoenix.

    Website: https://cropkiller.b...egular-chickens

Check out song #3 - Negative Nancy, and #6 - Rip Van Twinkle, first.

Give them a listen. Some interesting writing.

  10. They're just alright, IMO. Talented, decent composition, but still just alright. Modern songs without vocals, regardless of genre, bother the hell out of me. I'm sure they have songs with vocals but I won't go searching for them. Baby Metal is a better band.
  11. My photo albums and computer files. They contain my life. Who I am and nearly everything that I have done are in them.

    Same.

I have a multi-tiered backup system in place too. Hand written myself, using external drives. If one doesn't have 3 copies of their data, then it doesn't really exist.

Haven't done offline yet.... don't want to pay Amazon for it just yet.

I am the same, although not as backed up as you are. One of these days . . .maybe this will encourage me to start sooner rather than later.

    It's pretty simple.

Copy 1 is the live data. Files, photos, music. Adding as time goes on.

Copy 2 - weekly rsync backup to an external drive. Mirror copy.

Copy 3 - monthly compressed copy of -2- to another external drive. Takes a while. Result is archives by date. so:

    photos.2019.12.31.tar.gz

    photos.2020.01.30.tar.gz

    photos.2020.02.29.tar.gz

    photos.2020.03.30.tar.gz

    photos.2020.04.30.tar.gz

    mydocs.2019.12.31.tar.gz

    ....

The script for Copy 3 also has a housekeeping function. It will delete any archives, on that drive, older than 6 months old.

So I'm effectively running a set of 6 month rolling copies to fall back to -3-.

A weekly snapshot to recover to quickly -2-,

    and my live -1-.

Also, between 1 and 2, a daily snapshot of my most critical stuff that can't wait for the weekly backup, to a second /internal/ drive. Photos and key documents. Idea being that if something goes wrong, I can fall back to yesterday instead of last week.

In my case, my main machine is running Fedora LINUX. So these are all ksh shell scripts. I'm pretty sure something similar can be done on Windows with .bat files.

    Hope that helps!

Backups are absolutely essential. But you're not truly backed up until you're offsite. Having all your backups in 1 physical location is a recipe for disaster. Cloud storage is cheap, and so are dedicated servers. Both of those will accomplish a true offsite backup solution.

You seem knowledgeable enough. Build a Linux server on an old tower box, put it in a family member or friends house, get them a dedicated IP, and boom...offsite backup!

  12. Since his death on April 1, there hasn't been 1 post on this forum. Maybe this isn't surprising as he wasn't really a "spotlight" kinda guy. But his contributions to music, film and television are on a level few have ever reached.

The guy was a musical genius, a songwriting master, and a top-tier producer. It goes way deeper than just his band, Fountains of Wayne.

I am such a huge fan, and his death hit me as hard (maybe harder) than Neil's.

Look at all he's done: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adam_Schlesinger

Listen to this Album: "Traffic and Weather" by Fountains of Wayne.

Then listen to it again. It's a masterpiece, and easily in my top 10 albums of all time.

    Any other fans out there?

  13. If Best Buy offered this as a "package deal", with phone and service, then you need to handle this with Best Buy. They are the ones selling the package and are the only ones that can help.

If Best Buy won't help you while you're standing in the store, then return the phone, cancel the contract (because it was Not upheld legally).

If you were guaranteed certain things, under contract, and they are not being met, then you hold the power to cancel the contract.

  14. I'm confused on what you're trying to do here.

    a) You needed to rip a dvd to an audio file. You did that.

    b) What next?

I cannot transfer the audio file to Windows Media player?

You don't really transfer files to the player. The player plays whatever files you tell it to.

    Try this:

    1) Right Click on your audio file.

    2) From the menu you should see, Add to Windows Media Player Playlist and Open With (> select Windows Media Player).

    3) Add to Playlist will add the file to the current playlist. Open With will play the file now.

Also, if you want it to be in your Music Library, you need to Move or Copy the file to your Music Folder.

Whatever program you used to rip the dvd probably placed the ripped file in a folder that is 'outside' of your main music folder. Unless you tell WMP to specifically look in that folder it will never see the file. So move or copy it to your music folder to fix this.

    Does this help?
