  1. So, it's said like it's spelled. Not as hard as I thought.
  2. If you thought Peart was hard, this is even harder. Does anyone here know how to pronounce Alex Lifeson's given last name? I heard Geddy say it in the interview, but he said it so fast I couldn't make it out. Is it pronounced like it's spelled, or does it have some weird Serbian pronunciation? (PS: I am STUNNED no one has made a thread about this yet...)
  3. Of course Geddy would be tired- there was a LONG line of fans outside! And... uncomfortable? That sounds more like Neil than Geddy. Still, good of him to stay for his fans for so long. Based on the fact that it was the MFH promotion, I would say part of his uncomfortable-ness may have been due to his grief following the hiatus/Neil's tragedies. But that's just me.
  4. You are so lucky! I would LOVE to meet Geddy by total chance one day!
  5. Well, apparently... the official TV Tropes page for RUSH agrees with me about the whole Freud thing. http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Music/Rush (go to where it says "Freudian Trio"). However, they DO NOT agree that Geddy is phlegmatic- they say he's CHOLERIC, which to me BARELY fits Geddy.
  6. "Afterimage" is a good one, too.
  7. For me, it's "The Garden." Just because it feels like a song that shouts "it's the end of an era." And if RUSH is truly retiring... WHAT A WAY TO GO. :,) Any other thoughts?
  8. Given how good friends the members of RUSH are in real life, I'm pretty shocked that Neil hasn't written a song regarding platonic relationships yet. (Well, there's "Entre Nous," but that can be interpreted romantically, too.) Or am I missing something?
  9. Thinking about Geddy's voice and how much it has deteriorated over the years due to age. I know it's inevitable, but I really feel like I want to give the guy a hug. :( Poor Geddy. (He probably knows it, though.)
  10. In the words of RUSH, "I can't pretend a stranger is a long-awaited friend." In the words of me, "I love people." On another day it's been, "I hate people." What we say or write is often representative of merely one or a few thoughts at a specific moment in time. Peart is probably mildly embarrassed by some of the lyrics he's written over the years. Not Limelight's specifically but I wouldn't take any one lyric as his single defining personality trait. I wasn't using that lyric to define Neil. I was using it to rephrase your idea of how it's a bad idea to categorize people we've never met BECAUSE we "can't pretend a stranger is a long-awaited friend." Thanks for explaining. You're welcome. :)

  13. Anyways... if you read the Four-Temperament Ensemble thing... Basically, from what I have seen in interviews, Alex is sanguine, Neil is melancholic, and Geddy, as has already been established, is phlegmatic. There are no choleric members (unless you count John Rutsey, but I don't know what he was like...). Is anyone else here in agreement?
  14. Peart didn't "become" that guy - he was always that guy because of a predominant social awkwardness and shyness - which he has always admitted to, and which Lee reinforced by calling him shy. There is nothing wrong with being socially awkward and shy; there is nothing wrong with wanting privacy and feeling anxious. Not everyone can be as extroverted as Lifeson, and to some extent Lee. So... that means you agree that in terms of personality, Geddy is smack-dab in between Alex and Neil?
  15. "Limelight..." *giggles* Also, Neil does not seem like a "villanous dictator." Why do people say he is? I don't really think he's mean to his fans so much as he is EXTREMELY uncomfortable around them. Remember, that's what "Limelight" was written about.
  16. If you're into the tropes idea, tvtropes gives Rush their own long page. . . http://tvtropes.org/....php/Music/Rush. Or maybe you knew that already. ;) Yeah, I knew that already. Do you think I am accurate in my analysis?

  18. Geddy was at his most phlegmatic on the Time Machine Tour DVD of the Cleveland show. Fortunately when I saw him in St Paul the cold had passed. Yep! Geddy is phlegmatic, and the description on TV Tropes is basically Geddy to a T. From there, I don't think it should be hard to identify who's melancholic and who's sanguine.
  19. In the Dan Rather interview with Geddy Lee, he described each member's interaction with the fans, and effectively, their personalities: Neil is perpetually shy and introverted, and VERY uncomfortable around fans, Alex is gregarious, talkative, and goofy, and Geddy himself is right smack-dab in the middle: very polite, friendly, and humble, yet somewhat reserved. Not as gregarious as Alex, but not as shy as Neil. Meaning, effectively, that they can be considered the new Freudian trio (seen here: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/FreudianTrio -though that may be a bit of a stretch). Specifically: Id: Alex Superego: Neil Ego: Geddy If not that, then it is ALMOST CERTAIN that they represent 3/4 of a four-temperament ensemble (seen here: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/FourTemperamentEnsemble). Hint: there are no choleric members of RUSH. Hint: one's sanguine, one's melancholic, one's phlegmatic. Hint: it shouldn't take long to figure out who's who based on reading the descriptions. Who else here agrees? *NOTE: If I offend anyone with this, I sincerely apologize in advance. This thread was not meant to be offensive.*
  20. Anyone else want to share their favorite part of the Geddy Lee interview? For me, it was him telling the story of his name. I'd heard it many times already, but always love when he tells that story because it's very interesting. Also, the whole story with the fans. Ladies and gentlemen, THAT is why Geddy Lee is one of the nicest men on God's green earth! (Now I want to meet him... he's so sweet... :))
  21. I've read he's one of the nicest men in the world. Just ask Paul Rudd and Jason Segel. *giggles*
  22. To all those who missed it: ENCORE of the interview tomorrow at 8:00 pm!!! Record it if you missed the interview- like me!
