  1. Very nice pics! happy pizza lol thanks rhyv for bringing this thread up! Heading to Cambodia for two weeks this January. Cannot wait! Phnom Penh is an intensely interesting city.
  2. Look up "Middle Kingdom" and read for a mere 5 minutes. Your questions will be answered ha ha. no I'm aware of the old name for China, I just find that opening line to be awkward. Painfully awkward! Maybe he'll write an ode to Funan someday...Egypt also had a "middle kingdom", interestingly enough. thanks Mr. Blaze!
  3. "For you and me, sex is not a competition...sex is not a job-description." !!! "I see the middle kingdom between Heaven and Earth, like the Chinese call the country of their birth." ??? "A gleaming alloy air-car shoots towards me two lanes wide." ?!? There are probably more, but those 3 leap to mind.
  4. alphabetically: By-Tor Camera Eye Ceiling Unlimited Cygnus X-1 Earthshines Farewell to Kings Here Again In the End Secret Touch Villa Strangiato
  5. "Mascots" Just saw this on Netflix. My hopes were low, due to "For Your Consideration", but I was pleasantly surprised, and laughed more than once (more than twice, even). If you liked Waiting for Guffman, Best in Show, A Mighty Wind, then you shouldn't be disappointed.
  6. The 5 drummers who make me want to play: Keith Moon - so much energy, so much fun, and tons of 16th note triplets and crash cymbals all over the place Buddy Rich - love him or hate him, he was/is the best (apologies to Marco Minneman) Ringo Starr - he came up with perfect drum parts that supported and enhanced the songs. An innovative and musical drummer. Elvin Jones - a force of nature. had a cameo in the corny "Zacharia" movie (Elvin shoots a guy, then works up a sweat with a short drum solo) John French - yep, the Beefheart guy. Intense and innovative. honorable mention: Yogi Horton - who? I only know him from David Byrne's "Catherine Wheel" album. Interesting drum parts, like a cross between Steve Gadd and Andy Newmark...? sort of? kinda? i dunno... technically brilliant: Marco Minnemann - is there anything he can't do? Jojo Mayer Joe Morello - insane hand technique, and Take 5 has to be the most musical drum solo ever (sorry InnaGaddaDaVida) Thomas Lang (not so musical though) Mike Mangini
  7. Although it sort of sits between 'parody' and 'homage', The Dukes of Stratosphear's (aka XTC) "25 O'Clock" EP seems to hit the right buttons.
  8. The epic ridiculousness of Geddy's hair in this video gave rise to my username I still prefer this version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Trw5Dd8l2Gc ohmygod this is awesomely ridiculous!!! the Neil growl was the icing on an already rich cake. thanks for the laugh!
  9. Coffee Crisp are uniquely Canadian? This I did not know...you learn something new every day! I would add: Tim Horton's is nowhere near as good as people say it is. Maybe their doughnuts er, donuts are good, but their coffee and tea taste weird and weak. As one of the few Canadian non-beer drinkers, I understand that the beer up here is supposed to be okay...:) have fun, safe travels, and bring a scarf! Canucklehead
  10. Vapor Trails (original or remix) is the heaviest set of songs since the debut, and contains the most emotional performances since the debut. Neil loses the tubular bells and ethnic samples and plays the drum kit like he means it, in a very Keith Moon-like way at times. One of my favorite NP performances; all guts, no unnecessary bells and whistles, and played on what sounds like a very basic, bare-bones, drum kit. There is some great music on this record.
  11. Hi there! Long-time lurker, second-time poster. Cheap Trick continue to play it like they mean it. A great live act. ...and their studio work isn't too shabby either! CT97 rocked rocked rocked. [see "Anytime" or "You Let a Lot of People Down"] Rockford, despite overly loud mastering, was also some great, heavy pop, and had lots of terrific harmonies. yay Cheap Trick!
