  1. Had the good fortune to see them 3 times in a year around the time of Angel Dust. First time they supported GnR and they blew them off the stage. Then they headlined a festival as RHCP pulled out, they were COLOSSAL. Then they had their own show with L7 in support, what a gig that was. Love 'em. Sol Invictus was some comeback. Brilliant.
  2. Have this ordered. Love the Foos. Something comforting about them, and so consistent.
  3. What's wrong with The Optimist? I think it's a very good album. How exactly does one get into Anathema? Is there a string of albums I should listen to first before going into anything else? Not sure, but I started with We're Here Because We're Here and Weather Systems, then got into their quite miserable(but evocative and ace) early noughties albums. And I've loved nearly everything to date, early stuff like Eternity, very heavy and dense, but worth checking out, great version of Roy Harper's "Hope" on it. Exceptional live too. Happy hunting,
  4. New album by Lifesigns "Cardington" is out, and it's a splendid thing. Shades of Camel & Yes, very English.
  5. Roxy Music - Avalon My go-to for sound. It's perfect to these ears.
  6. Right. At this point, there's nothing they can release (besides unreleased studio material) that I would spend money on. We have access to multiple live versions of most of their songs. Perhaps the long-unreleased T4E live footage, but maybe not even that. If they unearthed footage from the whole ESL concert, I'd be all over that. Yes, a substantial live offering(I WANT BELLS AND WHISTLES THOUGH, a la Crimson) would be great. Or a tour with Ringo on drums & kazoo. If his work on Yellow Submarine is any indication, I see no reason why Ringo couldn't handle the vocals for all of 2112 and Hemispheres. No brainer. Octopus' Garden is a carbon copy of Natural Science, you're damn straight it's a no-brainer. I smell a petition. Could be the dog too though. It's been raining.

  8. I've helped make them wealthy enough, and they've given me plenty music. And that will do.
  9. Sad news, only 56. It would appear he had been battling cancer. For those of you who don't know, Grant was vocalist/drummer/songwriter with Husker Du. He also recorded with/as Nova Mob and as a solo artist. He had a way with melody that few of his peers could match. A real loss.
  10. Anti-Nowhere League's So What is manky. Erudite emo philosophers Blink 182 had a rather ribald number about pleasuring a dog in the bottom, the scallywags.
  11. Brian is a banjo player! http://i.imgur.com/aDykIJx.jpg his Banjo Uke playing on Good Company! OH MAN!
  12. Because it was Freddie. Brian, being quite reserved, actually got quite a lot of limelight stage-wise, for a banjo player(Ian Gillan's term) over shadowed by a behemoth of a front man.
  13. I love this. It SOUNDS exactly like it should, if you know what I mean. Understated, warm, late-night vibe. The bare bones versions of some later classics really show off his genius. Long may he run.
  14. Thank you everyone, and to RGLT for taking the time to start the topic! Good people.
  15. Dear GOD, but Discipline's Captives Of The Wine Dark Sea is SENSATIONAL. Shades of Crim, VdGG, Genesis and more, and mixed by Terry Brown. An album of the year contender.
  16. Love this. It's his closest to latter day PT, how anyone thinks this is pop(nothing wrong with that, btw) is beyond me. Permanating is just a catchy tune. Anyway, he's done it again.
  17. Good call on Husker Du. A lot of hardcore was punk, in essence. Like The Clash though, the Huskers threw off the punk and hardcore shackles pretty quickly. Then they TOOK OFF.
