  1. You can almost imagine what the second Rush album would've been like if John hadn't left... Side 1 Best I Can I've Been Running Bad Boy The Loser Side 2 Fancy Dancer Garden Road In The End Not sure what would've appeared to flesh out the rest. Neil discussed jamming an early version of Anthem (minus lyrics) at his audition. Maybe that would've been there as a quite different song. Parts of By-Tor were also jammed during Working Man, maybe a variation of that could've been produced (again minus the Tolkien-esque theme)???
  2. Cheers! I had seen that before now you show me it. Over 50s brain fade
  3. Wow, a few questions to answer here! I just recall jamming with friends in my youth, and the pause after the quiet intro was an opportunity to turn up the volume to much amusement "One two buckle my shoe" was one of the things Geddy would say during the gap (ref ATWAS). They played In The End and Best I Can at the first shows with Neil literally days after he joined, which would suggest they had been written prior to that. Although I don't think I've seen evidence of John Rutsey performing those songs live (setlist details of the Rush album tour are understandably elusive). Always annoyed me that they kept the extremely weak In The Mood in their setlists right up until the 90s, when there were some fantastic older cuts that were rarely or never revived.
  4. Was always fun to play along to and crank the amp up after the acoustic bit "One two buckle my shoe" The pre-Professor lyrics are a bit weak but I agree it is a classic riff. Didn't really fit in with the music they went on to create which is maybe why it wouldn't last long in the setlist, save for a snippet in the Moving Pictures medley.

    A new Lerxst solo!

Interesting take on Bowie, featuring an extended solo from Alex at the end...
  6. As a near Glaswegian I'd certainly love to hear the rest of the show that Closer To The Heart was recorded at for Exit
  7. Part of it did appear on side 2 of ESL. I imagine the album would follow a similar format to Exit, with no repeat songs from ATWAS. Filling out the length with the version of Cygnus X1 books 1 & 2 from the PW tour, plus Natural Science, would potentially have made an album like this:- Side 1 Spirit of Radio Freewill Xanadu Side 2 Bangkok Closer BB&B Natural Science Side 3 Cygnus X1 Books I & II Side 4 The Trees Jacob's Ladder La Villa Strangiato No room for a drum solo in there though. Maybe that's why Neil didn't wanna release it?
  8. I have relatives in Kincardine ON who have maintained for years that Rush played the high school there in the early 70s, but I was never able to find evidence of such a gig, until now! Apparently the then student who booked the band posted this on Facebook recently...
  9. Yours for 25 bucks.... (if you're the lucky one in ten thousand).
  10. Almost every year during the 80s in the UK music press Rush were rumoured to be headlining Monsters of Rock at Donington. But they were never into the idea at all, and probably just as well. I don't know how the Power Windows setlist for example would have gone down with an audience of 50,000 metalheads.
  11. I remember seeing a quote from Neil before one of these shows... "Look at the size of the crowd out there. We're a hockey team, not a football team."
  12. Tributes from Alex and Geddy... https://www.instagram.com/p/CnTIKWeLG20/?utm_source=ig_embed&ig_mid=A7968FF4-909D-4607-B29C-27AC86D1B894 https://www.instagram.com/p/CnTItugN390/?utm_source=ig_embed&ig_mid=5B76DE8C-5A73-4029-BE51-CF2C31A6F1EA
  13. First saw a rough copy of this around 2006. The colorised 2112 at the end was completely new to me though, looks excellent
  14. The original CD release of Signals sounded dreadful, muddy and quiet. Getting the remaster years later was like hearing a whole new album.
  15. Just discovered this clip. Wow! What a gem to have kept under wraps for all these years. Even the photos in the video are unseen!
  16. Tickets now on sale for Peter Gabriel next year, even more expensive than Genesis were. My friends have broken the £200 barrier. I think I'll sit this one out.
  17. Sad news. Just heard Love Hurts on the radio the other day
  18. I'm not so sure, he was on some "tracks of my years" type show recently and picked Xanadu as the favourite song of his teenage years. Got most of it played on BBC daytime radio too, much to my pleasant surprise

    Stalker alert!

  20. Understandable as they were made in the same studio just six months apart. No other Rush recordings took place so close together.
  21. Agreed, the debut is great fun and actually one of Geddy's favourites, but it's not the same band. Vapor Trails from the Peart years for me. Unlike any of their other albums, such dark and deeply personal lyrics, with music to match. I love it, but again it's an outlier.
