  1. Well, in that case you can find lyrics of particular song on Internet. ;) Yeah remember the old days, pause, rewind, pause, play "any idea what he's singing?"
  2. 4/5 for me. Nick R really pushed him vocally on this one and I think it produced some of his most thrilling singing since the 80s. Unfortunately most of it was too difficult to replicate live, especially at the start of a show as is evident on R40...
  3. The only pure blues song to top the singles charts. And possibly the most incongruous juxtaposition of music and female screaming... https://youtu.be/whXQkEJ4rBY
  4. I was in the Madness fan club aged 11 so really have to pick them...
  5. Tend to agree. Incredible that they both ended up in the same band, with George thrown in too. A real Big Bang moment, a random event that spawned an entire universe...
  6. Excellent thread title, made me chuckle. Oh and the Stones by an absolute mile.
  7. Yes I'd recommend the Best of volumes 1 and 2. Some absolutely fantastic songs, great artist.
  8. It was in the air. The Beatles used a raga-like drone in "Ticket to Ride" which was released before "See My Friends". I see know real use in pointing out who came up with what and when. Indian music was a major influence on psychedelic rock and pretty much every rock artist was in on it. Undoubtedly. Although I love the story of Ray Davies listening to Indian fishermen chanting in Bombay and coming up with the idea for the song. I adore this choral version btw, absolutely beautiful...
  9. This one holds a special place for me, as it's the only Kinks hit I'm old enough to remember...
  10. See My Friends is worth a mention. Ray was coming up with Indian inspired music before The Beatles...
  11. The same. Simple but genius. Beautifully sung too.
  12. Anyway my own favourite is Hüsker Dü's Eight Miles High...
  13. :) An absolute classic. Scroll to 14:30 in the video below to watch them play it live supporting Rush!
  14. The last time I saw Rush was in Berlin on that tour. My memory of the drumsolo was watching Alex standing at the side with his 355 strapped on, roaring with disbelieving laughter at the Professor's performance.
  15. Part of John's inspiration for A Day In The Life was from this fella's death... https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tara_Browne
  16. Lovely Rita actually gave Paul a parking ticket. I remember watching a news report on her when she retired in the mid 1980s.
  17. Interesting. I'd heard Dan McCafferty from Nazareth was their first choice but he didn't want to leave his band / replace Bon...
  18. Into The Darkness - Love the eerie intro. Geddy's voice is at its emotive best and the soaring solo is lean and gets straight to the point, like many of Alex' classic solos of the future would do...
  19. "This Woman's Work". For our friends outside of the UK, I recommend this excellent BBC documentary from a few years ago...
  20. Without a doubt my second favourite band of all time after Rush. Fair play to them sticking to their guns over retirement but I miss them a lot, Michael's voice in particular :(
