  1. This is absolutely fantastic!

When I heard the Massey Hall show was being filmed I was wondering how it would be released, delighted to see it on YouTube.

Watched last night and I'm sure I will again, such fun. Just a pity the full event wasn't covered, maybe in future....

  2. Finished it last night. Excellent read, good to finally get the history of Rush from an insider's perspective. I used to enjoy Neil's recollections in his books and blogs, but they were always brief flashbacks, never the full story.

I'm in agreement with earlier posts that the 1980s chapters were the weakest part, ironically given that it was probably the band's strongest decade. I thought the most interesting sections from that period were when he talked about the impact their success had on relationships with his wife and family.

It really picked up after that point. I have to admit I found the description of Neil's tragedies even more traumatic than Chapter 3, because they were being experienced by the author and also affected people that we "knew" and the group we loved.

An eerie sensation struck me when I was reading about Neil's passing and realised it was now the anniversary of that date. Four years gone

My favourite part of the book was just a few lines long, but him describing the locked in connection that he felt with the other guys and audience when a show was in full flow and going well. It instantly brought back the feelings I experienced myself many times witnessing their concerts. Quite simply the greatest live band ever :rush:

Going to one and watching the half-dozen or so others that are on you tube I kind of get the sense that this book tour is a victory lap and giving him the closure that he didn't get from R40.

He was certainly very keen to have British audiences in particular experience the R40 tour.  The current run of shows may have an element of atonement about them.

I'm just back from the first show in the UK leg of the 'in conversation' tour. (Wolverhampton 10th Dec.)

Guest interviewer was Nicky Wire (Manic Street Preachers)

I had a front row seat in the circle right at the side of the stage so it was a real good, close up view.

A thoroughly good night all round with a nice little tour booklet handed out upon entry.

Glad it was worth the trip, looked a good turnout from the audience selfie

Nicky's a big fan, hope he wasn't too starstruck to do the interview

For example, Eric Clapton is among the most famous guitarist names generally while Alex Lifeson is far from that and I never understood why, since Lifeson is (objectively) a much better guitar player than Clapton.

Clapton was a phenomenon in his heyday, up there with Hendrix. Rightly or wrongly Alex never received that kind of global adulation as he and his band travelled outside of the mainstream.

  8. I'm pleased to report that My Effin' Life has made #1 in the UK book charts

(Like most Rush albums it will probably nosedive out of the top 10 after a week  But still a commendable effort).

I got ahold of it this weekend. It's much more solid than I was expecting, beautifully produced but a weighty tome. Fall asleep reading it in bed and you're liable to do yourself an injury!

I wasn't expecting the extent of photographs throughout, they have done a great job of enhancing the story, and I've only read a couple of chapters.

Flicking through it though, as a proud Ayrshireman I was delighted to see the book ends with Ged looking out to the Firth of Clyde

I mean...how can you say no to that?!?! (seems like a super amazing and humble cat) :sundog:

It's worth listening to the Rolling Stone interview just to hear Geddy's Macca impersonation

(actually it's worth listening to it full stop, really good chat with Brian Hiatt - a rare RS Rush fanboy  )

Interesting that McCartney said he'd never met anyone from Rush, because I remember reading in Ghost Rider that Neil attended one of his album launches in New York. No surprise that Neil didn't want to meet anyone mind you.
