  1. They were in top form on the T4E tour. Saw them at the Omni in ATL on that tour. Hearing 2112 live was a thrill. Would love to have that Molson show from R40 (plus the other bonus stuff) but I already have all the other shows in that set so I can't justify the cost.
  2. I never regarded Circumstances as a top tier tune. It's always been pretty much a skip over track for me, though it's a decent song and I love the French lyrics. I love Hemispheres, but always regarded "Cygnus X-1: Book 2" as good as it is, as a relatively weak sidelong epic. It's a great song but pales in the inevitable comparison to the sidelength epic of 2112. I love the concept but it isn't anywhere near as grabbing or special as 2112 in my opinion. La Villa Strangiato and The Trees are the best songs here in my opinion. It still is a great representation of the classic Rush sound but it's centerpiece, the sidelong sequel to Cygnus X-1, lacks the magic of 2112. Pretty much echoes my thoughts completely. Circumstances has grown on me though, thanks to my wife loving that song. So hearing it more often helped me with digging it more.
  3. Yes when I see things like "Rush WERE a band etc"... Its the end of an era... Sad.
  4. Although maybe even getting mentioned in a doc that tracks the history of METAL should kind of make us feel proud. Not a lot of "metal heads" would even consider our boys as such. Rush didn't even consider themselves metal.
  5. I'm very stoked about this. It's a part of their history the Anthology glossed over to some degree. Let it Be was an average film but we are talking something historical now. I think it could be interesting if done right.
  6. I'm surprised the original is getting so much love considering the crap it got for its production.
  7. The little guitar solo that was added into Ceiling Unlimited -- recorded during the original sessions, I'm assuming, but omitted in the original mix -- kills that section of the song for me. There's a reason why it was omitted in the original. And that's just an example of why the remix fails on certain songs. Why didn't Alex and/or Geddy supervise the remix instead of just handing it off to David Bottrill to do it by himself? As talented as Bottrill is, he wasn't there during the original recording sessions and wasn't privy to some of the decisions that were made during the mixing process, like the choice to not include that guitar solo in Ceiling. They probably would have said to not add that solo back in. And that goes for some vocal parts that were added in or over-emphasized on other songs. Other songs like OLV sound better remixed. It still sounds like the OLV that we knew, but it sounds BETTER, and that's what frustrates me. That's what we wanted out of the remix for all the songs. Don't change the songs, just make them sound better. I like the Ceiling solo. I liked that section the way it was. Just power chords with Geddy's busy bass and Neil's power drumming underneath. It was my favorite part of the song, and that noodly little nothing of a solo ruined it for me. Yeah it's far better. I did dislike the changes to Secret Touch but I live with it. Its a minor gripe.

  9. Remix all the way. There are moments that I think unnecessary changes may have been made but overall it is a vast improvement. Made me love the album even more.
  10. GuP does sound phenomenal.
  11. Considering Rush were slandered and regarded as underdogs for most ofbtheir career, it bodes well for Greta Van Fleet today! I hear something in their sound. They aren't their yet but there is an energy and a sense of excitement emanating from them that has me more than intrigued. I'm willing to give them a shot. They may flop. But then again...
  12. "Trio serves up a dose of good hard rock highlighted by the often Robert Plant-like lead vocals of Geddy Lee and the powerful guitar work of Alex Lifeson and solid drumming from John Rutsey ... Only complaint might be the strong similarity to Led Zeppelin ..." -- Billboard review of debut album, August, 1974 "Geddy Lee's bass playing is hardly likely to threaten the likes of an Entwistle ... Guitarist Alex Lifeson surges forth with seeming teenaged abandon, wrestling riffs out of his axe that aren't totally original ..." -- Beetle, September, 1974 "Rush ... is one of those fledgling groups with an alarming disregard for originality. This copycat trio from Canada opened Wednesday night. Lead singer Geddy Lee was trying to sound like Rod Stewart and Humble Pie's Steve Marriott, but succeeded only in mangling lyrics with his flat, screechy voice. The playing of guitarist Alex Lifeson dissatisfyingly mirrored the style of Led Zeppelin's Jimmy Page. Rush's flagrantly derivative music was neither interesting nor listenable ..." -- Los Angeles Times, November, 1974 " ... the tunes are highly derivative - most obviously "Finding My Way," which steals a lot from the Zep's "Celebration Day." Even the basic riff, for that matter." -- Circus Raves, February, 1975 "We've been influenced by everyone who's good," Geddy states flatly. "We're constantly being compared to Led Zeppelin but that's only because my voice sounds like Robert Plant's - it's an unfortunate coincidence." Protectively Neil adds, "we aren't following in Led Zeppelin's footsteps." -- St. Catherine's Express, October, 1975 "I played the latest (and admittedly rather derivative) Rush album 'Caress Of Steel' in the office the other day, and unfortunately it received howls of derision. Young lead singer/bassist Geddy Lee sounds like Robert Plant and Burke Shelley combined and guitarist Alex Lifeson has his various rip-off offerings to a tee ..." -- Sounds, January, 1976 "Lead singer Geddy Lee continues to sound as though he played one football game too many without ample equipment, guitarist Alex Lifeson studies the stage charisma of the great guitarists without ever noticing their craft, and drummer Neil Peart should take a long, hard look at learning computer programming." -- Detroit News, February, 1977
  13. The Wreckers was partially inspired by Jamaica Inn by Daphne de Maurier.
  14. Yes I've had the obligatory Rush dream. I think my wife dreams specifically about Ged. I'm sure her dreams are more ... personal ... than mine... You might be surprised. I have a special lust in my loins for Halle Berry, Scarlett Johansson, and Margot Robbie but not once has any of them entered my dream world. It's possible.
  15. The Mission is a great album. the Mission Shocked me and i love it still. they fixed for me what was fukked up by Deyoung. And i know there was more albums after him BUT..... it's Classic Styx. people may say "well yea but it's nothing new blah blah blah" but really who cares. it's the best thing they've done in years. Mick Agreed!
  16. The Mission is a great album.
  17. I voted Kansas for their run through Know Return although Equinox, Grand Illusion and Pieces of Eight are killer.
  18. You obviously haven't heard this song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uBi61pgDUP8 Doug Henning on lead vocals, ladies and gents. Amazing Henning could split time between Styx and drumming for Rush back then.
  19. He had a nightmare about the same thing. They're recurring whilst in tour.
  20. Yes I've had the obligatory Rush dream. I think my wife dreams specifically about Ged. I'm sure her dreams are more ... personal ... than mine...
  21. Solid late career album. 7/10. Same for VT. Both are really good. As pointed out they cannot touch their pre-Atlantic years (1974-1988). But still worth the time. As for SnA... Well, it has a nice production quality to it...
  22. The RRHOF wanted nothing to do with Rush before, but now that they have seen how fanatical Rush fans can be, they are taking the opportunity to cash in on it. My thoughts exactly.
