  1. Been in heavy rotation since it was released. I was skeptical of the pre-release hype, about it being the best thing since Tattoo You, and the most focused since Some Girls….I mean I like a lot of what they released from Emotional Rescue (ok that one took a while to grow on me, but it has aged remarkably well), Undercover, Dirty Work (not much, but a song or two), Steel Wheels, Voodoo Lounge, Bridges to Babylon, A Bigger Bang and Blue and Lonesome…..but darn it, after playing it a few times a week since it was released I have to agree. It is their most focused album since Some Girls. No real filler, no half baked songs…all complete honed songs. Much better than I expected…and more hooks than a tackle box Easily a top two album of the year for me.
  2. I’ll be going to the tour opener In Houston. Saw them in 2019 & again in 2021. To quote the Washington Post from 2021 “this isn’t a band trying to recapture their past greatness, this is the greatness.” They really get the entire arena to levitate once they get cooking. I’ve seen them since the late 70’s and can honestly say, I’ve never seen a bad show from them. (Although I’ve heard a few iffy bootleg recordings)
  3. Finished the whole thing, the drug used didn’t shock me, but the length of it did. Including the pot smoking, and how it continued, for one, or some, for their entire career. His Family journey and remarks about the location of the R30 DVD were revelatory and informative, to say the least. His conflicted feelings about the last R40 show were also not a surprise, but a surprise he shared them with the world. The glimpses of the bond of friendship between Alex and himself, was evident onstage, and in previous DVD extras, and really on the documentary “Beyond the Lighted Stage.” The true depth comes through in these pages…and the subsequent interviews with both of them for this memoir. What and Effin’ life.
  4. QUOTE (mars_volta @ Jul 30 2007, 09:32 PM) QUOTE (rickyrob @ Jul 30 2007, 06:49 AM) Oasis always overshadowed them and of course are much better. you mean those two sniveling blokes that constantly fight and want to be the beatles? Saw a film about that era of British Music not too long ago...lots of good music came out of that time in England...post-Thatcher, anti-American hegenomy-neo-English nationalism... What's the Story Morning Glory is a great album....totally defines the time in which it was released....although I must say I do like Pulp's Common People and Blur's Song 2.
  5. Appetite for Destruction is right up there.....but Led Zeppelin II is the greatest hard rock album.....EVER. that along with Black Sabbath's debut defined Heavy Metal.
  6. Fair Warning...with II a close second.
  7. QUOTE (The Rocinante @ Jan 21 2007, 01:08 PM) QUOTE (jesse @ Jan 21 2007, 06:06 AM) QUOTE (The Rocinante @ Dec 22 2006, 06:22 PM) Achilles' Last Stand and In the Light IMO are their best songs In the Light Have you heard the original version? Diffferent yet just as awesome. what original version I'd like to hear it In The Morning....not a bad version.
  8. The Munsters....better cars. Although I can't say how many times I've heard/participated in the Addams Family song whilst viewing co-workers family pictures....its a workplace joke...no offense.
  9. I saw their Kiss perfume at the mall today.....just another reason why I don't frequent the mall.
  10. Been on a Black Crowes kick for the last couple of days. Picked up their two latest releases...The Lost Crowes...cus a store had it out by mistake, and Freak 'N' Roll (live from the Filmore West 2005). Two very good releases from a very good band.
  11. Listened to Presence to day....damn what a fine release.
  12. QUOTE (GeddyRulz @ Sep 3 2006, 02:15 PM) I'm done now with When the Levee Breaks: The Making of Led Zeppelin IV. It was a good read. I'm now reading In the Houses of the Holy: Led Zeppelin and the Power of Rock Music by Susan Fast. This one is too cerebral and analytical for its own good; a very boring read by a professor of musicology. I'm still in the first chapter and... snoozers! Fast is tearing apart "Dazed and Confused" and looking at it from eight different angles. Yawn. EDIT: I'm still anxiously waiting for Hammer of the Gods to be returned to the library so I can take it out. I used to own a copy - found at a garage sale - but I don't know what I did with it after reading it four years ago. I went to a book sale and a few garage sales this weekend, but didn't get lucky and find a copy. Saw a copy of the small paperback edition at a used book store of all of $0.25 yesterday. It wasn't in bad shape either.
  13. The Rolling Stones....taking my son to see them in Austin, TX.
  14. QUOTE (Maddy @ Jul 11 2006, 01:19 PM) It's numbers, isn't it? Ow. My brain just locked up and crashed. So your an accountant then?
