  1. Both are really great. However, the Cars debut however great it is still has filler on it whereas the Boston debut doesn't.
  2. Saw this elsewhere. Very sad news. I saw Kansas twice(2003-05 or so) both times with Robby. I even met him after one of the shows and shook his hand. RIP Robby.
  3. Van Halen are good and put out a few very good albums. However, Steely Dan mops the floor with them.
  4. It's still technically Yes because it's descended from the band that had Chris Squire in it. Also, Chris basically appointed Billy Sherwood to be his replacement before he died so there's no reason why they shouldn't still call themselves Yes. If anything the band that recorded 90125 shouldn't have called themselves Yes but they did so mainly because they brought Jon on board as the singer. However, just because Jon A. is not on this album doesn't mean it's not a Yes record. After all, Drama didn't have Jon on it and that's still a Yes album. If this shouldn't be called Yes because no Jon then Drama shouldn't have been called Yes either. Yes was never about just one member.
  5. I would say Signals. There's a strange vibe to it that nothing else in their catalog seems to have. An honorable mention goes to Caress of Steel. Nothing else quite like it in their catalog either. I think Hemispheres would be a contender too. Not sure what else.
  6. I'm going to try to go to this. I saw them in 2007 which was my first(and only time). This will be the last chance for anyone to ever see them. However if I can't get tickets for a price that isn't insane then it's a no go.
  7. Windom End seems to be making the rounds lately. I've heard a little bit by them and while it sounded good I don't think it's anything that hasn't been done before and much better. They are sort of like Flower Kings Jr.
  8. Huis is a Neo Prog band related to the band Mystery. Mystery has been influenced by Rush but like Huis it doesn't show that much in their music. They have done a cover of Genesis also recently. Cool. I know Mystery too. There's actually a newer prog band that admittedly were influenced by Rush but I don't remember their name. Just two main guys. I can look it up for you though if you want. Ok, the band I was thinking of is called Chromatic Aberration. http://www.progarchives.com/artist.asp?id=11735
  9. You being wrong doesn't offend me..... Good. Only, I'm not wrong. I've researched this quite a bit and consensus is definitely that Rush were never heavy metal. If you go to a site that was created by heavy metal experts for heavy metal fans you will see Rush listed but they do not get the heavy metal label. http://www.metalmusi...t/rush/?ac=rush They don't even get the proto metal label which means they are even more strict than me. Lol. Even if they had a few songs that could be considered heavy metal, which I admit was possibly the case with Led Zeppelin and Queen that doesn't make them heavy metal. You're still wrong,,,,,Rush are metal and that's that. Well, I could agree with you but then we'd both be wrong.
  10. If you look at advertisements for Rush albums from the 70s, they were explicitly marketed as heavy metal, and referred to as heavy metal in reviews. Like a lot of bands of their age, they have been strangely inconsistent so far as they described themselves. Until around Moving Pictures, the members of the band described themselves as heavy metal almost exclusively. But after that, it would vary. In Martin Popoff's new book (Driven: Rush in the 90s and In The End), Geddy gets into this and at one point says something to the effect of "We're not prog, we're not metal; if I had to say what category we are, we're a hard rock band" (that's an almost verbatim quote). Of course at another point, speaking from around 2004, he describes the band as "progressive metal", and indeed the book describes them as such in the intro. The problem here is that exactly what is considered metal has changed. A band has to be quite metal today in order to be considered heavy metal. But that wasn't always the case. On top of that, Rush's sound mellowed considerably over the years. In the 70s, at least through 2112, they were by contemporary standards not only metal but very metal. 2112 is very heavy for 1976. From Signals until Roll The Bones, they weren't even hard rock. There's a really interesting early interview from early in Rush's first US tour in '74, in Texas, in which Neil at one point says something like "Yeah, Sabbath is heavy like us but they are slow and plodding and we're high energy" or some such. Early Kiss and Queen, in my opinion, were metal. At least a lot of the tracks. Certainly for the time anyway. The early Aerosmith songs "Nobody's Fault" and "Round and Round" would be considered metal even by today's standards (if you aren't familiar with them check them out on YouTube - heavy shit). That said, I don't think any of the bands listed, including Rush, are heavy metal bands, but all have metal songs, and some were uncontroversially classified as metal in the 70s. Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple were considered heavy metal at one point also and so were Thin Lizzy. These days not so much. Black Sabbath still are but many of them are now just considered hard rock and that isn't just my opinion either. Some early Rush could be considered proto metal these days but that's as close at they get. The later stuff is heavy but considering what's out there now it's definitely not metal. If grunge and much nu metal isn't really considered true metal then there's not way Rush is either.

  12. None because Rush aren't metal and never really were. I'm sorry if this offends anyone but it's the truth. If it's not true then Led Zeppelin, Queen, Kiss, AC/DC, Aerosmith and a bunch of other bands are metal also.

  14. No surprise about Tai Shan since everyone except Neil hated that one. It's too bad some of the others weren't ever played live though.
  15. Nice. Huis is a Canadian progressive rock band. I didn't know they were influenced by Rush though.
  16. ^ I totally agree with what you say about albums not being certified that are way over due. They have Bowie's Ziggy Stardust at only gold. I would bet a lot of money that it has gone at least three times platinum by now. Who's Next is only at three times platinum. I'm sure there are many others maybe even some other Rush and other prog stuff too.
  17. RIAA can be very slow at updating these figures though. Sometimes they won't do anything unless it's requested by the band or their management. So, the album could have reached 5 million years ago but an update wasn't requested until recently. Regardless of when it did hit 5 million, it's still a really nice achievement for the album. It reached 4 million in 1995. I thought I read somewhere online that it had reached 4.4 million around 2012. Album sales itself are slow for older albums. In general what you say is correct though but I don't think it has been sitting on 5 million for too long. Also, there are other bands who have albums that I'm pretty sure need to be recertified. Like you said I think management or someone has to request that information.
  18. I often look up album certifications on the riaa website and just noticed that moving pictures went five times platinum on April 19th(2021). Maybe not a really big deal but interesting to those of us who follow such things. What I find strange is that the only other Rush album(not counting compilations)to be cerfified multi-platinum is 2112(3x). Permanent waves hasn't even gone double which surprises me. Oh well. I guess it will be a while before MP catches up to back in black, LZ 4 or Hotel California though.
  19. Glad to see this posted here. It shows me that not all members on here are just metal heads, hard rock and classic rock fans and some at least can appreciate other kinds of music. Anyway, I saw RTF back in 2008 and it was a great show. Chick Corea was a great jazz/fusion keyboardist and one of the best. RIP Chick.
  20. I think maybe they missed a few but still a very good list.
  21. Wow. Fripp must be really bored to be playing those songs. Not that they aren't good songs just not really what I would expect from him.
  22. It was very generic and looks like computer generated art(possibly because most of it was). Not that it's saying much but the music was better than the artwork. I like the Marillion covers and also the first few Asia(yes I know they weren't posted but they were from the 80's) and Genesis duke. The others not so much. Those Yes album covers were pretty lame and this is coming from a big Yes fan.
