  1. While we're at it, I can see through video that Alex frequently used that white ES-335 through Moving Pictures, but I feel like by Grace Under Pressure and certainly by Hold Your Fire he had moved in the strat direction. I feel like the "Time Stand Still" video confirmed some Strat-ish guitar. Edit I see the Rush Fandom link above, thanks a bunch :). I think emulating a chambered ES-335 sound with a Les Paul might be a bit of a challenge. :)
  2. I think it's more than just that. Perhaps the CE's aren't made in Maryland. I honestly don't know.
  3. Thanks y'all! I'm hoping to take a tour of the PRS factory in late June (apparently it's not back open yet.) Guitar acquisition syndrome means that I will probably end up buying one :)
  4. He played PRS electrics pretty hard in the 90's up to the R30 tour. I think he went back to full-time Gibson on the Snakes tour. Great thx. Any idea what model, Custom 24, +/- tremolo?
  5. I know he has a PRS signature acoustic, but when I tried to figure out if he has a PRS electric that he commonly plays, I could only see Gibsons for the most part in the post-2000 era. Anyone that can weigh in on this? Thanks in advance!
  6. So, I got interested in hi-res files after buying some pretty decent head-fi equipment that made me hear not only our favorite band in a new way, but also really opened the door to some crazy detail on the 40th anniversary vinyl releases and their accompanying hi-res downloads. That said, I've seen quite a few hi-res versions of the usual suspects like MP, but none of the less mainstream stuff like Hemispheres (at least for the plebes.) Does anyone recommend any really good hi-res releases of some of the lesser known albums? There was an SACD version of Hemispheres a few years ago, but AFAIAC that's a dead medium. Suggestions?
  7. Thanks you guys. I love Brubeck's "Take Five" so I'm surprised I missed this one. Maybe it's the syncopation and the fact that it's faster that threw me off. Anyhow thanks again.
  8. Anyone help me out with the time signature on "the Trees." Specifically at 3:50-4:00. Goes into what sounds like 9/8 maybe during the instrumental break during that ten seconds. Anyone out there more geek time-signature oriented would be of great help, as I do listen to some of these passages to help me learn about alternate time in general. Thanks Matthew
  9. The objective definitions are indeed different. However, one that sees himself as an introvert may very well be seen as antisocial by others. I tend to alienate people at social functions, not because I think I'm above them, but because it makes me nervous. Food for thought. I think the general public's idea of antisocial is a bit different than the reality. If somebody is truly antisocial they don't really like other people. I agree that someone who is shy can come across that way to others but the big defining difference is that someone who is antisocial doesn't really care what affect their actions have on others. Someone who is introverted usually cares very deeply about how their actions affect others. Sometimes too much, which can lead to avoidance. Big plus 1. You said more eloquently than I could.

  11. Thanks all for the advice. My ear training is pretty good after 35 yrs of violin and 25 of guitar, so listening absolutely helps me. Alex's unorthodox chord structure is made easier by tabs for sure, though, and I also use AnyTune to slow down tracks and make them easier (Lucas, this is an iPhone app that does the same thing the Tascam does) What isn't so intuitive is some of the more complex time signatures. The transition from 4/4 to 6/8 in "The Trees" was not to hard to figure out, but trying to figure out what The time sig is on the YYZ intro seems a lot harder. Also, the signal path for an electric is almost impossible to figure out by ear alone. My current overly ambitious project is transcribing Tom Sawyer for solo contemporary fingerstyle guitar, attempting to hit as many components of Alex, Geddy and NEP as I can. If I'm ever successful I'll post a vid here. Some of the aforementioned suggestions are exactly what I was looking for. Two kids in the house under the age of two means efficiency in practicing is key! :)
  12. Noob here. Any resources for learning Rush songs, particularly time signatures or gear setup? I can get tons of tabs off the web, but you guys may know how those are somewhat lacking especially with the more complicated songs. Thx in advance.
  13. Being introverted myself, it's sometimes hard to explain why I have no interest interacting with others. I still love music and playing for others. Reference Donald Fagen and Walter Becker, who solved their similar issues by not touring for the longest time.
