  1. Like we talked about in the movie thread, sometimes posting simple praise or well wishes on an internet forum can seem silly in comparison to the big picture HAPPY BIRTHDAY SEGUE !! I hope this day - as everyday - is a great one for you
  2. It left a DEEP impression on me. I'm still lost for words...isn't it amazing?! Even praising a film with this subject matter as "amazing" seems cruel and insensitive. That's exactly how I feel .. finding the correct praise for a movie of this magnitude is a little different
  3. Segue, thanks ... it seems to simplistic to say "what a great movie" ... This one will continue to hit me in different stages over the next few days ...
  4. The opinion of a TRF member who've I never met >>>> Eddie Trunk's opinion
  5. HAPPY BIRTHDAY IA !!!!!! http://i.imgur.com/L2QJ75w.gif
  6. I think Geddy has the same Bozo figure that I had when I was a kid .... He's gotta have him secured down on the top of the amp, so he might look a little different, but he sure looks like that what he has on the amp there .. definitely looks like Bozo

Are you saying Sir Gawian And The Green Knight would have been the final song on Hemispheres ?? I don;t think La Villa following Different Strings is a good fit ....
  8. No shame in losing to Toys In The Attic I love Fly By Night , and if I think about By Tor and Anthem and In The End - I'm almost tempted But Toys In The Attic holds a bit more of a special place in my musical history .. both albums are filled with great songs that I could listen to anytime, but Toys wins here ... Adam's Apple - c'mon now - that is one of the greatest rock and roll songs ever .. oh, wait, maybe the song that follows it is - or precedes it .. or ends the album
  9. Geddy learned a thing or two in those early days with Gene
  10. Happy Birthday DTTE !!!!!!!!!!! Have some fun today http://www.reactiongifs.com/r/2012/06/radass.gif
  11. Happy 6th Eagle I just wish you'd post more !!! http://archives.rickresource.com/oldattachments/33450.jpg
  12. OK, you guys know that I talk about Pittsburgh a lot, but some of the zombie material traces back to the 'Burgh! (OK, not Shaun of the Dead.) Fun facts below! :P George Romero attended Carnegie-Mellon U. in Pittsburgh, in their performing arts program. (Romero filmed some segments for Mister Rogers Neighborhood before hitting it big with NOTLD. ). When he needed a place to shoot the movie that would be cheap he chose Evans City, a rural area north of Pittsburgh (that is about 15 minutes from where I grew up.). When I was a kid, the farmhouse used in the movie still stood and people would dare each other to drive past it. (lost to development now, sadly.) Evans City still has a Night Of the Living Dead festival each fall. A neighhbor of ours, Greg Nicotero ( I never knew him well) was a huge lover of horror films when he was a kid and his dream in life was to work on them. He managed to get hired to do horror makeup/special effects for Day of the Dead in 1985 and learned from George Romero. Greg went on to do the makeup/effects for The Walking Dead and then some producing for Walking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead as well. Photo below is one of my prized possessions (kind of- I think every Pittsburgher my age has one, lol) For years, Pittsburgh had a Saturday night horror movie show called Chiller Theatre. The host was a local TV guy, Bill Cardille- Chilly Billy! He was famous in Pittsburgh and so Romero gave him a role in NOTLD as a local news reporter. Chilly is the guy standing, with the shades on. This is a still from the movie that Chilly Billy autographed at some appearance. Earl- you asked me about the photo one time- here it is. :) And I agree, Lucas- epic film! BC, wow, thanks for your post - and a great pic !! I remember the first time I saw NOTLD on late night TV .. Late late night as it was probably finishing up at about 3am and my Dad had fallen asleep at some point ... I remember being horrified - not scared so much but devastated by the way the film ends ... There's nothing really heroic about people who can fly and have superpowers - what is heroic is when an average person summons courage and defies odds -- and that seemed to be the thread through out this movie - both on screen and off screen . .
  13. Fifty years ago today ... October 1st 1968 - a film that is not only considered independent - but homemade - was unleashed on the American public and forever changed the course of film making .. Shot with friends, amateur actors, borrowed equipment and a budget that some say a paltry twenty five grand ( wiki has it @ $114,000 ) - NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD was not simply a movie about zombies, but a subtle yet scathing commentary on American culture and society .. Only a few years prior to it's release, the Supreme Court had finally put an end to segregation in restaurants .. Riots were commonplace in the cities of the USA ... The Vietnam War catastrophe was front and center in the American media ..... And George Romero cast an unknown in Duane Jones to play the hero ... Fifty years later it might be hard for some to fully appreciate what Night Of The Living Dead was, and still is .... We are force fed movies that, without representation from every ethnicity, there is an outcry .. It was quite the opposite in 1968 .... The use of shadows, lighting, the mood - everything about this film is spot on perfect ... ... despite its being heavily criticized upon its release for its explicit gore. It eventually garnered critical acclaim and has been selected by the Library of Congress for preservation in the National Film Registry, as a film deemed "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant." Happy 50th To The Greatest Zombie Film Of All Time
  14. First responders were overwhelmed by the chaotic scene. Ambulances struggled to make their way through the terrified mob streaming through the church parking lot. Inside the sanctuary, hundreds were incapacitated, many still frozen with their hands clutched over their ears in a vain attempt to shut out the unfamiliar tune. The few conscious congregants were in such a weakened state they were unable to assist their more gravely injured Lutherans. .. sounds like some of the members here when you ask them to listen to anything recorded after 2000
  15. It goes with saying - CLASSIC - right up there with the best live albums of all time ( .. and to this day, when I see that album cover, I still think that mic stand is Neil back there playing with his sticks raised http://www.2112.net/powerwindows/wallpaper/AWScov.jpg

    Villains

Jason kind of flips between villain and antihero vigilante at times. You could say he’s not the main villain in the 7th one. That would be Terry “Weekend At Bernie’s” Kiser for what a traitor he was to the telekinetic female lead and using a character as a shield against Jason. He had it coming. That's an interesting point because a lot of the villains or supposed evil characters could be seen as those who are just trying to right a wrong or settle a score .. or even as the victim

  18. After first seeing Rush on late night TV in 1977, I proceeded to nag my parents every time we went into a store to buy a Rush album .. Within a few weeks, I had all of 'em up to that point - Debut thru A Farewell To Kings .. and even though I might have been too young to appreciate everything in those vinyl grooves, I loved all of it .. Music, stories, esp Geddy's voice and the diversity in Alex's playing .. Hemispheres and Permanent Waves were hits right off the bat w/ me, esp Hemi But there was some underlying vibe on Permanent Waves - I'm not going to say that I didn;t appreciate or like, but in retrospect, I think it was that Geddy has somewhat come back down to earth with his vocals and the hysteria ..... This change was blunted by the fact that it would be May 1980 when I first saw them live - and that was a life altering experience ... As I saw the live more, and songs from Moving Pictures began replacing some of my favorites - songs that had bonded me w/ the band - this was really the first change in the band that I didn;t particularly care for ..... I didn;t like Signals and I hated Grace when they first came out .. Both Signals and Grace have grown on me, and I have an appreciation for both that is more than just nostalgia ..... Vapor Trails is one that has grown on me a lot too .... I do like Vapor Trails and Freeze is one of the songs I think of when the topic of "most underrated" comes up ... The one song that really jumps out is Vital Signs .... Vital Signs was the song that sort of signaled ( .. ) the transition Rush was making, and at the time, I disliked it intensely .... But today, it could easily fit into my Top 10, definitely Top 20 Rush songs .... Some of Neil best lyrics in that one IMHO There is a dark quality about Vital Signs that I can appreciate now ... That quality, unfortunately, I feel is missing from most their other 80s output

Betsy Palmer The one and only movie that has ever scared/scarred me is 1980s Friday The 13th .. I saw it in the theater when I was, fittingly, 13 ... A cathartic experience decades later was meeting Ms Palmer, who I was the most gracious, nicest celebrity I have ever had the pleasure of meeting ... I mentioned to her that she is the greatest movie villain ever - more so than Anthony Perkins .. Even when she did not have to, she spent about 30 minutes talking about Friday The 13th - and show biz in general - with me ..
  20. I remember reading a quote from one of Marty's contemporaries along the lines of "Marty wasn;t part of the San Francisco scene, he was the San Francisco scene ... Very influential time in music history, and Marty was one of the people who drove it .. RIP Marty
